    It's claimed some companies are being bullied and intimidated by protesters when trying to deliver materials to North Yorkshire's fracking site in Ryedale.

    Third Energy, the company behind the plans to drill for shale gas there, say this includes blockading their places of work and some demonstrators telling staff "they know where they live."

    Di Keal is a Ryedale district councillor and anti-fracking campaigner.

    Refuse workers are to be balloted over taking strike action in a dispute over job cuts, which could hit collections in the run-up to Christmas.

    Members of Unite employed by contractor Suez in Doncaster, will vote in the coming weeks on whether to launch a campaign of industrial action.

    The union says there are plans to cut more than 100 jobs under a new contract coming into effect in March 2018.

    Strikes were called off in August to allow talks to be held at the conciliation service Acas.

    Well the mist needn't necessarily be a bad thing.

    At the time I suggested we might receive a few more BBC Weather Watcher pictures of water in the air.

    The meteorological phenomenon is caused when warm air meets sudden cooler air.

    It certainly makes for dramatic and beautiful pics.

    Sheffield's first cafe dedicated to the playing of board games has opened in the city centre.

    The Treehouse has a library of over three hundred games, external to choose from along with 'gaming guru's' to teach customers how to play them.

    Games lover Ruth, who along with husband Andy have given up their full time jobs as a civil servant and engineer to set up the venture.

    Ruth and Andy have now put the finishing touches to the 90 seater café, which employs 11 staff.

    The first collection of new grotesques to be carved for York Minster’s 11 year project to conserve its 14th century South Quire Aisle, will be returned to the cathedral today.

    The grotesques - part of an £11m restoration project - replace four weathered carvings which are believed to date from the 1700s.

    They've been based on the Judgement of Solomon and include King Solomon, two women – one carrying a baby - and a dragon holding a goose between its teeth.

    Each grotesque has taken between 180 and 200 hours to complete by three stonemasons.

    A former Lord Mayor of Leeds has been paying tribute to the Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn, who's died at the age of 77.

    The actress, who grew up in Leeds, played Vera Duckworth in the soap for more than 30 years.

  7. Father of hanged Bradford schoolboy urging parents to talk to childrenpublished at 08:09 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    The father of a Bradford schoolboy found hanged in his home is urging parents to speak to their children about their worries and concerns.

    Eleven-year-old Asad Khan was found dead in his bedroom last year.

    Asad was a pupil at the city's Beckfoot Upper Heaton School.

    His father is speaking at Bradford's City Park today, where it's expected he'll say parents should do more to find out if there are issues upsetting their children.

    A woman from Rotherham whose mum died suddenly when she was just 32 years old is calling for all young people over the age of 14 to routinely be offered cardiac screening.

    Sophie Hirst was six when her mum died and grew up never fully knowing the cause of her premature death and whether she herself might be at risk.

    Those fears made her respond to a Facebook post promoting cardiac screening at Doncaster Rugby Club, where she says she finally got some answers:

    A scaffolding firm delivering equipment to North Yorkshire's fracking site says it won't give in despite being targeted by protesters.

    Sky Scaffolding, in Whitby, says it's been the victim of "bullying tactics" by activists.

    Its deliveries to the the site in Kirby Misperton have been delayed by demonstrations, which means it's losing money.

    Anti-fracking activists say directing protests towards suppliers is a legitimate and effect tactic.

    But Jeff Hill, a manager at Sky Scaffolding, disagrees:

  12. Dramatic rise in West Yorkshire car theftspublished at 07:00 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    There's been a dramatic rise in the number of cars being stolen in West Yorkshire.

    Research by the RAC shows more than 5,500 vehicles were stolen in the area last year. That's 2,000 more than in 2013. It's the second biggest rise outside of London.

    West Yorkshire Police say the force records every report of theft and is encouraging drivers to check their door handles when they leave their cars.

    Nationally vehicle thefts have risen by 30% in the last three years, following a decade of decline, RAC figures suggest.

    Almost 86,000 vehicles were stolen in 2016, up from about 66,000 in 2013, according to the motoring group.

    The RAC believes thieves are getting better at beating modern security systems by using new technology.

    Women in York are being asked to avoid walking alone at night after three sex attacks in three days.

    North Yorkshire Police is also asking the public to remain vigilant.

    The latest attack happened at 12:30 yesterday morning when an 18-year-old woman, who was walking along Navigation Road, was approached by a man who grabbed her but then ran off.

    On Sunday night police say a man groped another woman as she walked along the cycle path on Melrosegate.

    An hour later a woman was seriously sexually assaulted in the Bootham area - two local men were arrested and are being questioned by police.
