The charity Citizens Advice in York says it's still struggling to cope with people moving onto the government's new Universal Credit and in some cases sessions are so busy it's having to turn people away.

Last month the City of York Council voted to give the charity an extra £12,000, because of increased demand linked to the switch to the new benefit system.

The charity told BBC Radio York it held one session where more than 40 people were told to come back another day.

  6. Warning of West Yorkshire care home crisispublished at 07:59 British Summer Time 4 October 2017

It's claimed West Yorkshire's care homes will be unable to keep up with demand by 2022.

Research by consumer group Which? suggests there'll be a shortfall of more than 1,500 hundred beds within the next five years.

    Care

The research looks at the likely demand for care home places by 2022 compared to the predicted number of beds available.

In Bradford it suggests a shortfall of more than 600 and care homes in Kirklees could be more than 400 places short.

The consumer group says almost nine out of 10 councils are likely to face this problem.

The Local Government Association is again calling on ministers to come up with a national solution to the social care funding crisis.

  9. Labour MP visit to support anti-fracking protesterspublished at 07:20 British Summer Time 4 October 2017

York's Labour MP, Rachael Maskell, will visit North Yorkshire's fracking site in Ryedale later.

Third Energy was given permission to frack in Kirby Misperton in 2016.

    Protesters in anti-fracking demonstration

Protesters have been at the site since contractors and equipment started arriving last week.

The MP will be joined in Kirby Misperton by members of Thirsk and Malton Labour Party, who say fracking will damage the local economy and environment.

The Scottish government announced a ban on fracking yesterday, saying the practice "cannot and will not take place in Scotland".

But Third Energy says fracking is safe and it will start test drilling for shale gas by the end of the year.

Rachael Maskell's visit follows a trip to Kirby Misperton by Jonathan Bartley, co-leader of the Green Party.

  12. Listen: Barnsley school discipline - 'blinkered, robotic and authoritarian'published at 06:48 British Summer Time 4 October 2017

A school in Barnsley is defending its discipline policy which can see pupils being put into isolation for not tucking their shirt in or for forgetting a pen.

Some parents say Penistone Grammar's newly introduced scheme of Values Driven Expectations is breeding an atmosphere of fear and will hit morale.

The school say the scheme is intended to reward good behaviour and deter poor discipline.

Pupils get "strikes" for bad behaviour. If they get six in one week they spend a day in isolation.

Parent, Mathew Fenoughty, says it's blinkered, robotic and authoritarian:
