    Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says he wants to extend the deals of a few of his loan players.

    Ben Whiteman (pictured), who's on a short-term loan from Sheffield United, has impressed for Rovers so far.

    Jordan Houghton, from Chelsea, and Rodney Kongolo, from Manchester City, are two other players Ferguson says he wants to extend.

    A special reunion is taking place in York today, between two men and the vehicle that took them from London all the way to Singapore and back in 1955.

    The Expedition was backed by David Attenborough when he commissioned three films for the BBC.

    The 62-year-old Land Rover ended up on the Ascension Islands and then St Helena.

    Adam Bennett retrieved it and brought it back to York, where he's just finished restoring it.

    The car will be reunited with expedition members - Tim Slessor and Patrick Murphy - today.

    Police searching for a sex attacker who targeted two women is separate incidents in York have released CCTV pictures of a suspect.

    Two women were attacked in the city.

    The first incident happened on a cycle track off James Street in York at around 20:50 on Sunday 24 September.

    Another attack happened in the Navigation Road area of the city centre at around 12:30 on Tuesday 26 September.

    A 28-year-old man was arrested after an e-fit description was released, but he was later released under investigation.

    A major emergency rescue exercise has been held on the River Ouse in York.

    The mock incident which was held on Monday involved a tourist boat which "had been hit by a fallen tree".

    BAE Systems says it's planning to cut almost 2,000 jobs in its military, maritime and intelligence services under moves it says will streamline its business and give it a "sharper" competitive edge.

    The biggest cutback will be in the military air business, with 1,400 jobs set to be axed across five sites, including at Leeming in North Yorkshire, over the next three years.

    A total of 245 jobs are being cut across RAF Leeming and at RAF Marham, 15 of those are at Leeming.

    In Brough, in East Yorkshire 400 posts will close.

    Support jobs will be lost too as the RAF Tornado comes to the end of its life, with the RAF planning to retire its squadrons by 2019.

    Sheffield's Tourist Information Centre on Surrey Street is under threat of closure.

    The city council wants to reshape it's services and say the centre is under used.

    They say the way tourists and visitors access information has moved away from face-to-face contact to online.

    The discovery of a man's body at the scene of a car fire at a West Yorkshire beauty spot has no suspicious circumstances surrounding it, according to police.

    The body of a man in his 50s was found yesterday morning at Penistone Hill Country Park in Oxenhope, near Haworth.

    Officers say enquiries are continuing today to establish the circumstances and anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

  11. Man arrested at North Yorkshire fracking protestpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 10 October 2017

    A man has been arrested after climbing onto a tower made of pallets at a site earmarked for fracking in North Yorkshire.

    The 33-year-old was removed by police from the top of the structure at the site near Kirby Misperton in Ryedale at about 17:45 yesterday.

    He was arrested on suspicion of causing a danger to road users and obstructing a police officer and has been released on bail this morning.The tower of pallets, which protesters said was a memorial to clean air, was later dismantled.

  12. Bradford-based bank fined for sending almost 1.5m spam messagespublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 10 October 2017

    A Bradford-based bank has been fined £75,000 for sending out hundreds of thousands of unsolicited emails and text messages.

    Vanquis bank

    Vanquis Bank Ltd sent a total of 870,849 spam text messages and 620,000 spam emails to promote its credit cards, according to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

    Earlier this year, the bank's sister company Provident Personal Credit Ltd sent almost one million similar text messages and was fined £80,000.

    Vanquis Bank has also had a legal notice issued to it to make sure their practices comply with the law.

    Here's more information on the scientific breakthrough made by scientists at Sheffield Hallam University which could change the way clues from fingerprints are used by the police.

    The university team is piloting the method, known as mass spectrometry, to detect traces of various substances such as alcohol and drugs within a fingerprint.

    Hundreds of people are expected to attend a rally in York later to mark World Homeless Day.

    It's due to take place in St Helen's Square this evening and comes just over a week after homeless man Chris McCann was found dead in a shop doorway in the city centre.

    Norburt Lawrie, one of the organisers of today's event and who knew the man who died, says it's not the first similar death of a homeless person in York:

    City of York Council says it's doing all it can to try and help people sleeping rough.

    A body has been found at the scene of a burned-out car at Penistone Hill Country Park in West Yorkshire.

    Police were called to the park yesterday morning and officers say that inquiries are continuing at the scene to establish what happened.

    The park is just half a mile away from Haworth and is popular with walkers.

    West Yorkshire Police say that if anyone has any information, you should call them on 101.

    Eight school students from Paraguay have spent a week in Rotherham as part of a cultural exchange.

    The visit was organised by Wales High School with visiting students staying with UK families as part of a 13-year partnership between the school and Colegio Aula Viva, in Asunción, Paraguay.

    A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Sowerby Bridge yesterday afternoon.

    The accident happened on Holmes Road at about 16:41 when a 42-year-old biker and his machine collided with a car.

    The Yamaha motorbike and Kia Cee'd car were travelling in opposite directions and collided on the bend in the road.

    The rider suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

    The future of a devolved deal for Yorkshire will be discussed in Parliament tonight, as the region attempts to follow London and Manchester by taking on more powers.

    The former Chancellor, George Osborne, had signed a deal for South Yorkshire in 2015.

    That's been abandoned in recent weeks, with Barnsley and Doncaster's councils opting out.

    They now want to join 17 other councils which include Leeds and Hull, in forming a deal for the entire region.

    Thieves targeted an 82-year-old woman in her own home at the weekend.

    The elderly woman was distracted by a woman asking for help at her door in Sheffield.

    The theft happened on Sunday 8 October at around 16:30, when a woman in her late-20s to mid-30s knocked on the door while a second woman waited nearby in a car.

    The victim let one woman in but then realised that her bank card and a small amount of cash was missing.

    Police are appealing for information.

    The building in Bolehills Park, Crookes, has been the target for vandals for many years.
