  1. 'I used to cut nappies up': 'Period poverty' in focus at Leeds conferencepublished at 08:07 British Summer Time 16 October 2017

The country's first ever summit to tackle "period poverty" has been held in Leeds.

It follows revelations girls have been missing school because they can't afford sanitary protection.

The Freedom4Girls charity was contacted by a school in Leeds earlier this year, after it became concerned about teenage girls' attendance.

Sarah, who lives in Leeds, says she used to improvise because she couldn't afford to buy the products she needed:

  2. Debt-on-sea: Scarborough hit by rising tide of debtpublished at 07:49 British Summer Time 16 October 2017

Scarborough is one of the seaside communities in England and Wales suffering the worst levels of debt in the country, with young people particularly badly hit, new figures reveal.

    Debt graphic

Scarborough is in the top three seaside places with the highest level of insolvencies among young adults, according to the Insolvency Service, as well as the Isle of Wight and Torbay.

Overall the number of 18 to 34 year-olds becoming insolvent rose by 31.3% between 2015 and 2016.

It comes ahead of a possible rise in interest rates as soon as next month.

Any increase would be the first in the UK for over ten years - and would inevitably make borrowing more expensive.

  3. Tempy's run for wounded soldierspublished at 07:28 British Summer Time 16 October 2017

A five-year-old girl whose frank conversation with a blinded soldier from Leeds went viral has run to raise more money for injured veterans.

    Tempy

Tempy Pattinson's video with Simon Brown, who was shot in the face in Iraq, has been viewed more than 100 million times.

She raised more than £2,500 for the Help for Heroes charity by running the 5k park run in Darlington on Saturday.

Mr Brown, from Leeds, said it was an "amazing achievement".

  4. Listen: Life-saving Sheffield teen backs Restart a Heart campaignpublished at 07:14 British Summer Time 16 October 2017

A Yorkshire teenager who used CPR to save his dad's life says everyone should learn how to restart a heart.

Herbie Colton, 15, from Sheffield, resuscitated his dad, who'd had a cardiac arrest, until paramedics were able to take over.

He's now backing a major push today to teach more than 25,000 Yorkshire youngsters how to perform the life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation technique.

Lessons are happening in 131 schools today as part of European Restart a Heart Day.

Doctor Sarah Milton-Jones, who works on the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, says starting CPR immediately after someone has collapsed hugely increases the chances of survival:

  6. Dying daughter calls for Bradford Andrea Dunbar memorialpublished at 06:57 British Summer Time 16 October 2017

The terminally ill daughter of the Bradford playwright whose work inspired the film Rita, Sue and Bob Too has called for a permanent memorial to her mother.

    Andrea Dunbar

Andrea Dunbar (pictured in 1987) was 15 when she penned her first play. The British comedy film Rita, Sue and Bob Too, based on life in Bradford's Buttershaw Estate, was released in 1987.

Lisa Pearce, 36, who has cancer, said: "I'd like to see something that marks her name in Bradford because she put Bradford on the map, really."

Dunbar died in 1990, aged only 29, from a brain haemorrhage.

Her first staged play The Arbor was originally for a school assignment, while the follow-up was Rita Sue and Bob Too, which was written in 1982.

At the age of 18, Dunbar became the youngest playwright to have her work performed at London's Royal Court Theatre.
