    The oldest football club in the world, Sheffield FC, celebrates it's 160th birthday today.

    The team was formed by two cricketers who wanted a sport to keep them fit over the winter.

    The club's played a key role in providing the rules for modern football.

    Here are a few footy facts about the club:

    • Sheffield FC was founded in 1857 by Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest
    • The club was responsible for the first officially adopted set of rules and laws for the game
    • It is recognised by FIFA and the FA as the world's first football club

    The city's bid is being submitted on Friday.

    Joshua Lawton, from Leeds Bread Co-Op, says he'd like to see more places work like them, where employees get a say in how the business is run.

    A deal has been done to build more than 2,000 new homes in Sheffield.

    A partnership between Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Housing Company (SHC) has been formed.

    The Council is lending £3m to the firm to build new homes.

    SHC says it "aims to build 2,300 new homes over the next 15 years on cleared sites within the neighbourhoods of Arbourthorne, Fir Vale, Granville, Manor, Manor Park, Norfolk Park, Parson Cross and Shirecliffe."

    If you're in Leeds today don't be alarmed if you see lots of blue flashing lights and uniformed people dashing about.

    Fire fighters and emergency services staff are taking part in a major training exercise this morning.

    It'll take place at the Sky Plaza student block on Claypit Lane.

    The building is one of a number of buildings in the city which failed fire safety tests on cladding earlier this year.

    People are being asked not to worry about the exercise and to avoid the area where possible.

  7. Parents to travel to Westminster looking for assurance over schoolspublished at 07:21 British Summer Time 24 October 2017

    Parents and representatives from Goole Academy and other schools affected by the collapse of a West Yorkshire-based academy chain are travelling to Westminster today.

    Wakefield City Academies Trust (WCAT) revealed at the start of the last term it was giving up its schools because it was unable to rapidly improve them.

    The parents say they want assurances about the future of 21 schools across Yorkshire - currently run by the WCAT.

    Earlier this month the government announced it had identified eight preferred trusts to take over the schools saying they wanted to "minimise uncertainty".

    Police say three more people have been arrested in connection with assaults in the Unity Grove area of Harrogate.

    Officers were called to the area at about 23:30 on Friday where they discovered one man with stab injuries and another with a cut to his hand and other superficial injuries. Both men were taken to hospital.

    Earlier, police had been called to the Bilton Road area, to reports that a man had had a substance sprayed in his eyes. Officers found a fourth man at the location with knife wounds.

    The number of crimes in Yorkshire involving online bullying and harassment has almost trebled in the space of a year.

    The BBC has discovered that in 2016 more than 9,300 malicious communications were recorded - up from 3,100 the year before.

    Police and experts say the numbers are just the tip of the iceberg and include reports of cyberbullying, trolling, online harassment and death threats

    For the victims, being targeted by online trolls can have a devastating effect on their lives.

  11. Police, tree surgeons, engineers and a 75 tonne load head from York to Hullpublished at 06:44 British Summer Time 24 October 2017

    If you're travelling from York to Hull today it's worth avoiding a huge load along the way.

    Cargo, destined for the United Arab Emirates, measuring 27m long, 4.6m wide, 4.5m high and weighing in at 75 tonnes will be moving - slowly.

    Due to its height, it's not permitted to travel along the main trunk road and motorway network and so is likely to cause some congestion.

    Instead, the load must use the designated High-Load Route from York to Hull.

    This route will bring the convoy of vehicles into area’s that don't typically get abnormal loads.

    The convoy will include a Police escorts, tree surgeons and also electrical engineers, who will intervene to raise cables where necessary.

    The First convoy is due to leave Huntington at 09.30.

    The route being used includes the A1036 Malton Rd, the A166 Stamford Bridge Rd and the A1079 Hull Rd.

    Labour MP Jared O'Mara has quit the Commons equality committee over online homophobic comments he made before being elected to parliament.

    Mr O'Mara also made misogynistic remarks, joked about having an orgy with members of Girls Aloud and posted degrading comments about fat people.

    The Sheffield Hallam MP, 36, was elected in June, unseating ex-deputy prime minister Nick Clegg.

    Mr O'Mara resigned from the Women and Equalities Committee after apologising.

    In posts made on the Drowned in Sound music website in 2004, Mr O'Mara claimed singer Michelle McManus only won Pop Idol "because she was fat" and said it would be funny if jazz star Jamie Cullum was "sodomised with his own piano".
