    Police in North Yorkshire are warning motorists to be on the look out for scam speeding tickets.

    The force say that some people have been emailed with false Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) letters.

    They say that a genuine NIP is sent by first class post or recorded delivery, along with a request to identify the driver at the time of the offence.

    Officers say that you shouldn't make any payment in response to these emails and not to click on any links contained.

    A bookmaker's shop in Halifax was robbed yesterday afternoon.

    Thieves targeted the Coral Bookmakers on Clare Road at about 13:15 when a suspect threatened staff before leaving with an amount of cash in plastic carrier bag.

    Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the area and may have seen or heard anyone acting suspiciously or who has any information to come forward.

    The motorway is now open, but as we all pile out of work and head home for our well earned tea, the queues and tailbacks are getting worse.

  8. Fundraiser pounds roads for charitiespublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 26 October 2017

    A technical engineer in Sheffield has raised more than £1,700 after deciding to commute his 10 mile journey to work and back on foot.

    Jack Durham, 26, raised funds for charities by commuting between Rotherham and Attercliffe in Sheffield by running and walking for five working days.

    The sporty chap said he gained multiple blisters by covering about 50 miles during the fundraiser.

    Donations from his work colleagues, friends and family will be split between Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind, Breast Cancer Care and Alzheimer's Research.

    Emergency services have been called to a school in Barnsley this afternoon.

    It's not clear what has happened at Barnsley Academy, but South Yorkshire Police say they were called at 13:20.

    Officers say they were called to a "potential chemical leak", but have since confirmed that no chemical leak has been found.

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have said this afternoon: "We'll shortly be coming away from this incident and have not found any harmful substances at the site. There is no public danger."

  11. M62 travel update: All lanes reopen but queues remainpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 26 October 2017

    There are still queues of more than 10 miles on the M62 eastbound from J25 to J29 - from Huddersfiled to Leeds - this afternoon after an earlier crash.

    Queues are now spilling back to routes out of Leeds, namely the M621 and the A58(M)

    But the good news is that Highways England say they're about to open all three lanes.

  14. Hunt for men after sleeping couple attacked in homepublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 26 October 2017

    Police have released CCTV images of six men after a sleeping couple were assaulted in their own home.

    It happened back in June in the Silkstone Common area of Barnsley, during the early hours of the morning four people broke into a house in Moorend Lane as the couple inside slept.

    The masked men, thought to be teenagers, assaulted the man and woman - who are in their 30s - and then left the house without taking anything.

    Police hope that releasing these images will jog people's memories and may offer clues to the gang's identity.

    A teenage boy has been charged with manslaughter after a man was fatally assaulted outside McDonalds in Huddersfield.

    The assault happened on 1 October on Kirkgate where 37-year-old Graham Bell was left with serious head injuries and died in hospital.

    The 16-year-old boy from Huddersfield is due appear at Leeds Youth Court on 28 November.

  16. Travel update: Major queues on M62 after accidentpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 26 October 2017

    Queues on the M62 are now around 10-miles long eastbound, it starts just after J25 and goes all the way to almost J29.

    It's after a three-car crash earlier this afternoon, police say they've just opened two lanes.

  17. Man charged after serious assaults in Harrogatepublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 26 October 2017

    A man has been charged after a series of serious assaults in Harrrogate last Friday.

    Stabbing scene

    Two men were stabbed, one of them was taken to hospital with serious injuries last Friday night.

    The 25-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, attempted murder and wounding with intent and remains in custody until a court appearance tomorrow.

    Five other people have been arrested in connection with the incident, the 25-year-old is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court tomorrow.

  19. Travel update: Long queues on the M62published at 15:42 British Summer Time 26 October 2017

    There are eight-mile long queues on the eastbound M62 this afternoon after a three-car accident.

    It's happened between J28 and J27, Highways England say that there are delays of one-and-a-half hours.

    They say they don't expect the road to fully reopen until after 17:00.
