A new service has been launched to give Doncaster families a safe place to talk openly about the effects of drugs and alcohol.
Former Public Health Minister, Caroline Flint (pictured right above) launched The Family Moving On Together (MOT) programme today.
The new scheme is an eight week support programme for Doncaster families with young children aged between eight and 18 years old, where one of both parents or carers have experienced or are still living with substance misuse.
Don Valley MP Caroline Flint said: “This is an essential service supporting not only the person affected by the drugs or alcohol, but their family and children. Across Britain there are 2.5 million children of alcoholics and it’s vital that this service is in place to support families and allow them to talk openly in a safe space.”
A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a rape in York nearly 30 years ago.
Police from Cleveland and North Yorkshire have been questioning a 53-year-old from Goole over the offence which happened in the Castlegate area on 29 October 1988.
Officers say the victim is receiving support from specialist officers as the case progresses to court.
The man is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning.
Quote MessageWith advances in forensic science and other investigation techniques, we are determined to bring offenders to justice. Importantly, we also aim to bring some form of comfort and closure to the victims of serious crimes.”

Nine people have been arrested under new control measures introduced by police in Doncaster last week.
The Public Spaces Protection Order, which has been applied to the town centre, aims to reduce the amount of aggressive begging and nuisance behaviour.
This order has already seen more than nine arrests for offences including, failing to appear at court, breaching a court order and possession of a controlled drug.
In addition, eight dispersal orders have been issued and vulnerable members of the public have been referred to the relevant support agencies.
Insp Lynne Lancaster said: “I hope our local community will see the improvements made to the town centre through the implementation of the PSPO and I would like to offer my reassurance that this work will now continue.”

A prison officer who sneaked illegal items into HMP Doncaster has been jailed for more than two years.
Jade Martina McCarthy, 27, of Pickering Road, Bentley, used to work as a prison officer for HMP Doncaster in 2015.
McCarthy was reported to the South Yorkshire Police's Prison Investigation Team after colleagues grew suspicious she was having a relationship with a serving prisoner.
Following the report, McCarthy was then arrested in November 2015 and a blister pack of Tramadol was found in her handbag within the prison.
Police also searched McCarthy's home and discovered a number of mobile phones wrapped in clingfilm and a nude photograph of the inmate on her phone.
Appearing at Sheffield Crown Court today, McCarthy pleaded guilty to two counts of misconduct in a public office and one count of conveying a Last A article into prison.
Quote MessageAs a prison officer, the public quite rightly expect a high standard of behaviour and McCarthy did not conduct herself in a professional, ethical or legal manner at all. She now faces time behind bars to consider the consequences of her criminal behaviour."

Police say this crash happened when one of the vehicles involved had broken down on a stretch of the motorway with no hard shoulder and was stranded in lane one.
It happened today on the M1 southbound near J40, the turn off for Ossett.
They're urging drivers to look well ahead and be extra careful when there is no hard shoulder available.

The body of a man in his 30s has been found at a house in Bradford - three men have been arrested.
Ambulance crews arrived at the house on Ashgrove, off Great Horton Road near the city centre at about 13:30 yesterday and were unable to resuscitate the man.
Forensic officers are still at the scene.
Dectectives say their investigation is at an early stage but have said the dead man had facial injuries which "appeared to be consistent with an assault."
Officers have arrested three men aged 29, 34 and 33 on suspicion of murder and they remain in custody.
A street in Leeds was sealed off by police this lunchtime after two human fingers were found lying in the road.
Police say they were discovered on Roseville Street, Harehills, and they could have been there since Thursday, but they're not treating the find as suspicious.
Officers say they belong to a man who was left with serious injuries after an accident with a firework last Thursday on nearby Dolly Lane.
West Yorkshire Police say they spoke to the injured man in hospital after that incident and were "satisfied it was an accident."
Drivers in a part of Leeds were faced with delays after this crash earlier today:
The Ford Focus came off Selby Road near Garforth Cliffe.
The car has now been towed away and traffic is flowing as normal.
Police say no one was seriously injured.

An 83-year-old man in Cleckheaton managed to see off a would-be car thief who went into his house and demanded his car keys.
It happened on Friday at 18:15 when a man went into the elderly man's house on Pyenot Gardens, threatened him with a knife and pushed him several times while asking for his car keys.
The elderly man refused and pulled his audible alarm and the suspect left empty handed - the 83-year-old wasn't injured.
Police say they're looking for a white man, about 6 feet tall, in his mid-twenties wearing a shiny grey wax-type three quarter length jacket, and dark jogging bottoms which were possibly tucked in to his socks.
Quote MessageThis has clearly been a frightening and upsetting experience for the victim, who was thankfully uninjured."
