  1. Listen: Children in Need grant gives young carers a night offpublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

    Elly Fiorentini
    BBC Yorkshire Live

It's only a few days now until this year's BBC Children in Need campaign.

There are thousands of young people across the region who need help and support and the money raised helps many of them and their families.

I recently had the privilege of meeting a group of young adult carers.

They received a grant from Hambleton and Richmondshire Carers to support a worker who organises events for the teenagers who miss out on growing up.

The young people I met are all full time carers for a family member. Here’s three of their stories:

  3. Ann Maguire inquest: Killer had 'deep seated grudge'published at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

An inquest into the death of stabbed teacher Ann Maguire has begun in Wakefield this morning - with a senior detective saying that the 15-year-old pupil who killed her held "a deep seated grudge".

Det Supt Nick Wallen said the 61-year-old "stood absolutely no chance whatsoever" when she was attacked in her classroom at Corpus Christi Catholic College in April 2014 by teenager Will Cornick.

He said she was stabbed seven times with a kitchen knife Cornick had brought from home, including one blow which cut her jugular vein.

He added Cornick told "at least 10 other pupils precisely what he was going to do - where he was going to do it and how he was going to do it"

But the detective said none of the children took him seriously.

The inquest is expected to last two weeks.

The astronomical phenomenon is known as the Venus Jupiter conjunction.

The two planets appeared briefly to be orbiting the sun side by side, as they fit nicely between the two top power lines seen below:

If you watch this video I hope everything about life - for a few minutes at least - will feel a bit better.

Wildlife artist Robert E Fuller, lives in Thixendale in North Yorkshire and for his paintings he uses nest cameras hidden in his garden to follow the secret lives of the creatures who live there.

Recently he recorded this film about a week in the life of a tree stump. It may not sound like much would go on there, but you'd be very wrong.

His film opens with a tawny owl which appears to have claimed the hollowed elm for a home, but then a kestrel is captured also inspecting the tree stump's nesting possibilities.

This visit is followed by that of a stoat, then a squirrel, climbing gracelessly into the chamber.

Meanwhile, a tree creeper and a blue tit pick off insects at the entrance to the hollow elm before the decaying stump is eventually laid claim to by a barn owl:

  17. Number of high street shops rises in Yorkshire and Humberpublished at 10:23 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

The number of high street shops closing down has fallen to its lowest level in seven years, with Yorkshire and the Humber actually showing a net gain in the number of shops, new research suggests.

    Cash

The Local Data Company, which studied the top 500 British town centres, said 2,564 outlets closed in the first half of 2017, equivalent to 14 a day.

At the same time, there were 2,342 store openings, meaning that a net total of 222 high street shops disappeared.

Charity shops, women's clothes shops and shoe shops were worst hit, it said. However, general fashion stores, banks and cheque cashing shops saw their lowest number of net closures in three years.

The store closures were unevenly spread across the country. Scotland fared worst, with a net loss of 42 shops, while eastern England lost 34.

Yorshire and the Humber is one of only two out of 11 British regions showing net gains, adding 12 shops. The East Midlands now has eight more shops.

  18. Listen: Rural areas of North Yorkshire heading for decline - Reportpublished at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

Rural parts of North Yorkshire are heading for decline, with pubs, schools and post offices continuing to close, it's being warned.

A report by the National Housing Federation also predicts almost half of households in rural areas will be aged 65 or over by 2039.

The cheapest homes in some areas are more than eight times the income of typical first time buyers and building just a few affordable homes for young families could stem the decline, the report adds.

These people in Easingwold, in North Yorkshire, say they agree with the new report's findings:

  19. Listen: New project to tackle anti-social behaviour launched in Leedspublished at 09:56 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017

A bit to improve the quality of life for thousands of people in some of the most deprived areas of Leeds is being rolled out in several parts of the city.

The project, which gives more decision-making powers to council staff working in poorer areas, has already reduced anti-social behaviour and racism in West Leeds, according to Leeds City Council.

It's being targeted at the Beeston Hill, Holbeck, Lincoln Green, Burmantofts, Richmond Hill, Seacroft and New Wortley areas.

Tracy, who lives on an estate in one of those areas, says she hopes the project does work as currently she doesn't go out after dark:
