    The Government's pledging to build "more homes more quickly" as part of moves to fix what it calls Britain's "broken housing market".

    The Communities Secretary Sajid Javid says there'll be new measures in next week's Budget to tackle the shortage of affordable accommodation.

    But Labour's Housing spokesman, Sheffield MP John Healey, says he's not convinced it'll be enough.

  6. Calderdale responds to 'patience has run out' commentpublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2017

    Today the Local Communities Secretary said that his "patience has run out" with two Yorkshire councils over their "failure" to produce a local plan for housing.

    York and Calderdale councils are two of 15 across the country that Sajid Javid has highlighted as showing "particular cause for concern".

    Calderdale Council has responded by saying it is "currently making excellent progress" towards publishing a Local Plan - "unlike many other councils".

    The authority says that the General Election this year delayed its release and the document was put out to consultation which ended this month.

    Adding that we should see the finalised Local plan by summer nest year.

  8. Ann Maguire inquest: Attacker smiled at arresting officerpublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2017

    An inquest into the murder of Leeds teacher Ann Maguire has heard that she gasped, "He's stabbed me in the neck. I'm dying" after the knife attack that killed her.

    The 61-year-old was stabbed seven times from behind with a seven-inch knife by Will Cornick, who held a grudge against his Spanish teacher at Corpus Christi Catholic College.

    The inquest heard how - after she was attacked - Mrs Maguire ran to an office followed by 15-year-old Cornick, who moments later as his victim lay dying, smiled at a police officer who arrested him.

    Mrs Maguire's husband, Don Maguire, closed his eyes and held a hand to his face as the jury heard details about the attack in April 2014 at Wakefield Coroner's Court.

    Layla Page has been missing since the early hours of this morning.

    The 16-year-old was last seen in the Copthorne Gardens area of Bradley wearing a black coat.

    Police say they are concerned for her welfare and vulnerability and if anyone sees her they should call them on 101.

    The 84-year-old went into the McColl’s store in Woodhouse carrying cash she had just withdrawn from a cash machine.She'd just got into the doorway of the shop when a man grabbed the money and ran off .

    Police say they've "exhausted all lines of enquiry" in trying to find the man after the robbery which happened on 26 October, so now they're asking the public's help to try to track him down.

  11. Improving cancer aftercare in Sheffieldpublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2017

    A new tactic designed to improve the lives of cancer patients is being introduced in Sheffield.

    It's a study into Acceptance and Commitment Therapy which gets people to accept things that can't be changed and set goals in line with their own values and wishes.

    In all around 350 people will be involved in a trial run in Sheffield and London to see how effective talking therapy is compared to more usual aftercare.

    Cancer charity MacMillan will be involved in the project.

  12. Funding for Bradford Odeon to be discussed at 'top level'published at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2017

    There's to be a meeting with the culture minister about the funding of a scheme to turn a derelict 1930s cinema in Bradford into a major music and events venue.

    The NEC group which runs the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham has agreed to foot £2m of the £15m bill for the Odeon regeneration project.

    The Labour MP for Bradford East Imran Hussain is concerned about where the rest of the money will come from but the Culture Minister Matthew Hancock has agreed to meet and discuss the issue.

    The building opened in 1930 and was one of the largest cinemas in Britain. It was converted into three smaller cinemas and a bingo hall in 1969.

    The landmark venue in the city centre has been derelict since closing in 2000.

    The Prince of Wales has awarded The Queen's Gallantry Medals to two West Yorkshire Police officers.

    The pair arrested Thomas Mair who murdered MP Jo Cox near her constituency office in Birstall.

    Constables Craig Nicholls and Jonathan Wright have been at Buckingham Palace for the event.

  19. Kirby Misperton fracking site police costs hits £400,000published at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2017

    The cost of policing anti-fracking protests at a site in North Yorkshire has more than doubled in a month, the county's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) says.

    Figures show the force spent £233,704 policing the Kirby Misperton operation in October.

    In comparison, they spent £101,476 in September and £80,238 in August.

    Commissioner Julia Mulligan said the rise was due to additional policing in the site's first month of operation.
