    The cost of policing fracking protests in North Yorkshire has more than doubled in the last month.

    Figures released in the past hour show staffing the site in October cost North Yorkshire Police almost £234,000, compared to just over £101,000 in September, and around £80,000 in August.

    The figures are for things including overtime and travel related costs and don't include the salaries of those officers assigned to policing the site on a day-to-day basis.

    Commuters in north Leeds were hit with long delays this morning after a road closure, burst water main and faulty temporary traffic lights caused chaos.

    Traffic between Yeadon, Rawdon, Greengates and Horsforth faced about an hour's delays, even long after the rush hour.

    After a water main burst and the temporary traffic lights put up while repair work was carried out weren't working properly.

    The delays affected traffic heading around the outer ring road - a major route for commuters in Leeds and Bradford.

    A woman living in her car in North Yorkshire says she's lucky compared to others.

    She says she's been forced to sleep in the vehicle because she cant afford a property in the area.

    It comes as councillors approve £20m of spending on new social housing in York.

    They hope it will help provide between 150 to 200 affordable homes.

    Currently there are 1,600 people on the waiting list for a property in York, but only 500 homes become available each year.

    The family of a man who died after being hit by a police car in Sheffield have been told of an investigation's findings.

    The 73 year-old died following the incident in Hillsbourgh on Penistone Road in January.

    His death has been investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

    It says the findings won't be published until after the inquest into the man's death.

    Labour's told a party activist she can't stand for office in Bradford.

    Nasreen Khan has apologised, after comments she made on social media five years ago re-surfaced.

    Ms Khan was previously in George Galloway's Respect party and was hoping to be selected for the safe Labour ward of Little Horton.

    But anti-semitic posts on Facebook, dating from 2012, emerged nationally at the weekend and last night she was re-interviewed by Labour, who've now barred her from standing.

    A brief statement reads: "Following an investigation, Nasreen Khan has been removed from Labour's panel of approved candidates in Bradford.

    "Labour condemns all anti-Semitism in the strongest possible terms."

    Ms Khan has yet to comment.

    Former Home Secretary David Blunkett has spoken of his sorrow at the sudden death of his guide dog Cosby.

    The seven-year-old Labrador/retriever cross has had to be put down after the discovery of an inoperable liver tumour.

    Despite being spooked by fireworks over the weekend, Cosby guided the Labour peer round the Palace of Westminster "without a grumble" on Monday, and it was only when he went off his food that Lord Blunkett realised something was wrong and took him to the vet.

    Last year more than £10m in grants came to Yorkshire as a result of the campaign.

    In North Yorkshire, 19 groups benefitted from a total of more than £1m.

    Former Yorkshire cricket umpire Dickie Bird is donating £30,000 to the Leeds Children's Heart Surgery Fund.

    The charity works alongside the unit at Leeds General Infirmary, supporting children and adults with congenital heart defects from across Yorkshire.

    A South Yorkshire Karate club is celebrating after a gold rush at the recent World Championships, external in Italy.

    Sheffield Dragons Martial Arts, external sent five competitors over to the tournament in Italy - all of them under the age of 11.

    One of them, Libby-jo Johnstone, won nine golds and she's to be inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame this weekend.

    Police say they are growing increasingly concerned over a 50-year-old man missing from Doncaster.

    Sean William Anderton (pictured) was last seen at around 06:00 on Tuesday when he left his home address in Stainforth.

    Sean is around 5ft 2in. He is described as slim and was last seen wearing a bright blue Adidas baseball cap, black hooded jacket, Grey t-shirt and blue jeans.

    Officers say they are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

    It's the big switch-on for York tonight as the countdown to Christmas begins.

    York's Christmas lights are being switched on by BBC Look North presenter Clare Frisby.

    She'll be joined by the Lord Mayor of York and York Theatre Royal panto stars Berwick Kaler and Martin Barrass.

    Festivities get underway in St Helen's Square from 17:45.

    In the past York's been criticised for its lack of lights, but this year there's a promise of more lights than ever from the Business Improvement District, a group set up to improve trade in the city.

    The two West Yorkshire Police officers who arrested the killer of MP Jo Cox are receiving bravery awards today.

    The 41-year-old MP was shot and stabbed in Birstall, in her Yorkshire constituency of Batley and Spen, on 16 June 2016.

    PC Craig Nicholls (pictured left) and Constable Jonathan Wright, rugby tackled Thomas Mair to the ground when they saw him walking away from the murder scene in Birstall, even though he was likely to be carrying a weapon.

    Today, they're collecting the Queen's Gallantry Medal, after being named in Her Majesty's Birthday Honours list.

    He made it after seeing a the video of the Pulp classic Common People, redone and featuring hundreds of BBC Radio Sheffield listeners.

    It was done to mark the station's 50th birthday, which was yesterday.

    Women in North Yorkshire are using a new law to report misogyny against them to police.

    Six months ago the North Yorkshire police force became only the second in the country to class misogyny as a hate crime.

    Since May police have received eight reports of misogyny hate crime - logged as verbal abuse - mainly by women who had sexual comments made towards them.

    The force says the reports are where a crime has taken place, which has been motivated by a woman's gender.

    Police say they will not tolerate this kind of behaviour, and that they want all victims of hate crime to come forward.

    Officers investigating a burglary in the Longley area of Sheffield have released CCTV images of two men they believe can assist with enquiries.

    A grey Jaguar XF, sunglasses, electrical equipment, clothing items, cash and bankcards were taken in the incident.

    The bank cards stolen were also later used to purchase items from shops in the area.

    Officers investigating the incident say they have identifed all possible forensic lines of investigation, spoken to witnesses and are now appealing for help to identify the men pictured.

    MPs say there's a greater risk of guns, drugs and fake goods, being smuggled into the UK after Brexit, unless the government recruits more border staff.

    Police in Harrogate are asking for help in reuniting two medals with their owner.

    The two miniature medals were found at the Remembrance Day Ceremony on Sunday near to the town's War Memorial.

    Officers want anyone who can help get the medals back to their rightful owner to contact them.

    South Yorkshire Police have found 16 cannabis plants at a property in Doncaster.

    Officers from Doncaster’s tasking team executed a warrant at a property on North Avenue, Bawtry on Tuesday.

    The plants have been seized and a 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis.

    An investigation is currently ongoing into the incident.

    A BBC report's found that Sheffield Wednesday supporters pay the most for season tickets of any club in Yorkshire.

    The Price of Football report found the club's cheapest costs £455. That's £150 more than Premier League Huddersfield Town's most expensive season ticket.

    BBC Sport's Price of Football report is out today.

    It says the majority of ticket prices have been frozen or have fallen for a third year, yet a poll of young adult football fans suggests the cost is still putting them off.
