    Yvonne Lines from Maltby, Rotherham turned 83 recently and when her family asked what she'd like for her birthday, she had a rather unusual request.

    She wanted to drive a lorry.

    The wife of a rugby league player who died after a match two years ago, will be at Mytholmroyd Leisure Centre near Hebden Bridge in Calderdale later, to unveil a new defibrillator as new life saving equipment is made available.

    Danny Jones was 29 and died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

    Since then Lizzie (pictured with Danny) has started a Fund to raise money for equipment at sports clubs across the country.

    She was also named St John Ambulance's First Aid Champion in 2016 for her defibrillator appeal.

    It might still be November but that's not stopping a man in Scarborough whose house has become famous for its Christmas lights display.

    Every year, Tony Baker turns his house into a festive wonderland and reckons it's now one of the largest private displays on the east coast.

    As you'll see, it features two suspended illuminated helicopters with santas jumping out of them:

    Tony's yearly display raises money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

    He's wife and daughter were rescued by the service 12 years ago.

    A new awareness campaign against sexual harassment called Know the Line is being launched in Sheffield.

    The people behind it say they're aiming to change attitudes and empower women and girls to speak out about harassment such as catcalling.

    Plans to introduce parking charges in and around Wakefield on Sundays, bank holidays and in the evening have been scrapped.

    The idea was to help free-up spaces so shoppers could use them.

    Hundreds of people gave their views on the proposals - and the council says it's listened to their opinions and decided not to go ahead.

    Councillor Matthew Morley said: "We hope that by not introducing any additional charges we can continue to support our city and towns to thrive."

    A concert's due to be held in York on Friday evening to raise funds for better mental health in the city.

    The charity York Mind, external is putting on its annual Winter Concert, which it describes as "a relaxed evening of music and storytelling" at The Basement music venue.

    All proceeds raised by the concert will go towards continuing "vital work supporting people in York experiencing mental ill-health", the charity adds.

    This year's line-up includes performances by soul folkster Zak Ford, songs about Yorkshire from David Swann and a set by The Bronze (pictured), who Tom Robinson on BBC 6Music described as "measured and beautiful".

  7. Winger scores twice against Doncaster before hospital dashpublished at 09:18 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    What a night Wigan winger Ryan Colclough had last night! He scored two goals against Doncaster before being substituted in time to see the birth of his second child.

    Colclough had already scored to put Wigan 2-0 up at half-time against the South Yorkshire club, when he found out his partner had gone into labour.

    He celebrated his second goal by racing down the tunnel and dashing to the hospital, still in his full kit, where his partner was in labour and he made it in time for the birth of his son:

  8. Future of 21 Yorkshire schools under scrutinypublished at 09:01 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    The future of 21 schools across Yorkshire is due to be discussed by Wakefield Council later.

    In September, Wakefield City Academies Trust said it no longer wanted to run the schools, which are in West, South and East Yorkshire.

    Only four of the schools were rated as good or outstanding by education watchdog Ofsted and the trust decided to walk away from them because it didn't feel it could make improvements quickly enough.

    The Department for Education is now trying to find new sponsors to run them.

    The motion being debated this afternoon has been put forward by Labour councillor Kevin Swift, who says academies should be able to move back to council control if something like this happens in the future.

    A friendly last night between a Leeds United Under-23 team and Welsh side Rhyl FC was abandoned in the second half after a brawl between the two sets of players.

    Leeds coach Carlos Corberan reportedly took his side off the field after punches were thrown.

    Video footage shared on social media shows players from both clubs tangling before the Leeds players leave the pitch.

    Rhyl FC say they will carry out an internal investigation.

    A new suicide prevention plan is set to be discussed later in a bid to reduce the number of deaths in the borough.

    Between 2013 and 2015 there were 81 suicides in Doncaster,

    From 2008 to 2010 the suicide rate in Doncaster was 9.28 per 100,000 people, figures show, with the next highest rate in the county being 7.25 in Barnsley.

    The suicide rate for England and Wales in 2010 was 6.75 per 100,000 people.

    There are now plans to adopt a suicide review process, which will be similar to the reviews into child deaths and drug-related deaths which are due to start at the beginning of 2018.

  12. Tributes to Bingley-born Likely Lads star Rodney Bewespublished at 08:09 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Tributes have been paid to West Yorkshire-born actor Rodney Bewes, who has died aged 79.

    The Bingley-born actor had a career spanning six decades and is best known for playing Bob Ferris in sitcom The Likely Lads.

    His agent issued a statement saying: "It is with great sadness that we confirm that our dear client, the much-loved actor Rodney Bewes, passed away this morning."

    The statement paid tribute to the actor, calling him a "true one-off" and a "brilliant storyteller".

    Bewes also appeared alongside his friend Tom Courtenay in Billy Liar, had a brief spell as straight man for Basil Brush and in 1984 he became a member of the Doctor Who cast, portraying a humanoid named Stien in Resurrection Of The Daleks.

    Comedian Jack Dee said The Likely Lads was one of the "great" sitcoms, while TV presenters Ant and Dec called Bewes a "fine comic actor".

    Radio presenter Danny Baker described The Likely Lads as "the gold standard" and "envy of the comedic world" and actor and comedian Tom Davis said Bewes starred in "landmark British sitcoms".

    Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with a serious sexual assault in Huddersfield earlier this month.

    An 18-year-old woman was assaulted by an unknown male at Tokyo's nightclub on Queen Street in the early hours of Sunday 5 November.

    The man being sought by police is described as black, about 6ft tall, in his mid to late 20s, of large build, with closely shaven black hair. He was wearing a denim jacket and he didn't have a local accent.

    PC Samra, from Kirklees Adult Safeguarding Unit, says: "This was an extremely traumatic ordeal for this young woman and she is being supported by specialist officers."

    Anyone who recognises the man in the pictures or who has any information about the assault is being asked to contact police.

    After the recent success of the Tour de Yorkshire, Ryedale in North Yorkshire could be in for a pedal-powered boost.

    District councillors are to decide whether they want to spend £150,000 so the area can host one of the race's prestigious starts or finishes.

    Some of the routes of the first three Tour de Yorkshire races passed through Ryedale, but the area hasn't yet staged a start or a finish.

    Now, tourist body Welcome to Yorkshire is asking local councillors if they want to play host to the famous race sometime from 2019.

    The Christmas lights switch-on in Barnsley this evening has been cancelled due to the forecast bad weather.

    The council says it made the decision because "high winds have made the stage area in front of the town hall unsafe".

    Businesses will still be open for late night shopping and the council says it's looking at alternative dates to host a Christmas celebration in the town centre.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, external for heavy rain in parts of Yorkshire today.

    Spray and flooding on roads is expected to make journey times longer in Harrogate, Calderdale and Kirklees, with the possibility of bus and train services also being disrupted.

    Strong winds are also expected which could add to the difficult travel conditions.

    Yorkshire Water is one of the UK's water companies which uses divining rods to find underground pipes despite there being no scientific evidence they work, an Oxford University scientist has found.

    Sally Le Page said her parents were surprised when a technician used two "bent tent pegs" to find a mains pipe.

    She contacted all the country's water companies, external, and a majority confirmed engineers still use the centuries-old technique.

    However, a number said the equipment was not standard-issue equipment.

    The process of using divining rods, also known as dowsing, has been in use for hundreds of years.

    All the companies emphasised they do not encourage the use of divining rods nor issue them to engineers, and said modern methods such as drones and listening devices were preferred.
