She was flanked on screen by a court usher and a youth team leader who confirmed the girl's name when she was asked to identify herself by the judge, Mr Justice Soole.

The judge told her: "The gravity of the offence of killing a small child speaks for itself."

He said: "The level of danger to the public is high.

"In the circumstances of your continuing silence, the critical question is whether there is any reliable estimate as to how long that danger will continue."

The girl, who was 15 at the time and cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility in July.

After spending 12 weeks in a special assessment unit, the teenager was sentenced on Friday.

The girl who is now 16 years old appeared via a video link and throughout the hearing stared at the floor.

There was, the court heard, "clear and unequivocal evidence that she still posed a dangerous risk to members of the public" and that so far she'd been "unwilling and unable to address her behaviour."

Her barrister said this wasn't a "malicious manoeuvre," but a coping mechanism, as she was still suffering from post traumatic stress.
