    A child's been treated for the effects of breathing in smoke after a house fire in York last night.

    Crews from York and Acomb were called to the incident in a bedroom at a house on Leeman Road.

    It's believed the fire was caused by small toy parts being dropped into the heater.

    The child was treated at the scene.

    The five victims of a fatal crash in which a stolen car smashed into a tree in a Leeds suburb at the weekend have been named locally.

    Brothers Ellis and Elliott Thornton (below left and right), aged 12 and 15, died in the crash.

    The England and Wales Cricket Board says it has spoken to Yorkshire and England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow after claims about an alleged incident involving Australia's Cameron Bancroft.

    Reports in Australia, external suggested Bairstow headbutted batsman Bancroft on a night out in Perth four weeks ago.

    The ECB said there was no report of any incident from the venue, security or police and no injury reported.

    It will "follow up" with players after the conclusion of the first Ashes Test.

    Cricket Australia told the BBC it was aware of the incident, adding that it was a matter for the ECB and not Australian cricket's governing body.

    All lanes have now re-opened on the M62 westbound following an earlier crash between a lorry and two cars.

    There are, however, still major delays between J23 A640/A643 (Huddersfield) and J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

    Congestion is as far as J24 A629 (Ainley Top) and travel time in the area is about an hour and 25 minutes.

    Drivers in Halifax are being warned that the A646 Skircoat Moor Road is currently closed in both directions.

    It's due to emergency repairs between Free School Lane and A58 Rochdale Road/King Cross Road.

    Problems are continuing on the M62 westbound at the moment, between J23 (Huddersfield) for the A640 and J22 (Rishworth Moor) for the A672.

    There's very slow traffic due to a multi-vehicle accident with reports of "gridlock", according to some drivers.

    It's reported that the journey between J24 (Ainley Top) and J22 (Rishworth Moor) is now taking about an hour-and-a-half in the Manchester direction.

    I'm out at Stonegate Road in Meanwood, Leeds, this morning where there is still a police presence following this weekend's fatal crash in which five people, including three children, died.

    You can see where the incident happened on Saturday night, when a stolen Renault Clio collided with a tree.

    Emergency services were called at about 22:00 to a scene they've described as "complete carnage", with police officers saying they were faced with a very difficult situation.

    The crash victims have been named locally as brothers Ellis and Elliott Thornton, aged 12 and 15, as well as 15-year-old Darnell Harte and 24-year-old Robbie Meerun.

    Father-of-two Anthoney Armour, 28, whose partner is pregnant with a third child, also died.

    Last night, local residents plaid floral tributes at the scene of the crash, the exact circumstances of which are still being pieced together by the Major Collision Investigation Team.

    Meanwhile, two 15-year-olds remain in custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

  9. Cyclist hurt in South Yorkshire minibus crashpublished at 07:34 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2017

    A cyclist has been seriously injured in a crash involving a minibus in Barnsley at the weekend.

    It happened about 12:30 on Saturday lunchtime on Pontefract Road, towards Cudworth town centre.

    The minibus, a white Ford Tourneo, was reported to be travelling in the same direction when the collision occurred.

    The cyclist, a 78-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact police.

    Today will be cold, bright and becoming very windy with sunshine and scattered showers, these heaviest and perhaps occasionally wintry over the Pennines.

    Gales are likely during the afternoon as winds strengthen further with the best of the sunshine in the East.

    It will be cold and windy tonight with scattered showers at first, but it will become dry and clear by late evening as showers ease.

    There'll be a widespread frost with the chance of the odd shower later in the East.

  11. Murder investigation under way in Halifaxpublished at 07:12 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2017

    A murder investigation's started in Halifax after a woman was found dead.

    Emergency crews were called to a house on Solstice Way at about 11:30 on Sunday morning after reports a woman had been stabbed. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

    A man at the scene was found to have minor injuries.

    A 35-year-old man's been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    Anyone with any information about what happened is being asked to contact police.

  12. Decision day for future of Yorkshire men jailed in Indiapublished at 07:00 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2017

    A decision is expected later over the future of three former soldiers from Yorkshire who've been imprisoned in India since 2013.

    Paul Towers, from Pocklington, Ray Tindall, from Hull, and Nicholas Simpson, from Catterick, are among six people who were arrested on firearms charges while on an anti-piracy ship.

    Their families have been campaigning for the government to help in their release.

    Their trial has finished and a judgement is expected today.
