    South Yorkshire Police are appealing for any information or witnesses to come forward following an armed robbery in Sheffield last week.

    The incident took place at around 20:15 on Friday 22nd December at the Premier Store on Wolfe Road where two armed men entered the shop.

    Both have been described as white and wearing dark hooded jackets, leaving the convenience store in the direction of Browning Road.

    Officers are asking for anyone with any information to contact 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 1048 of 22 December 2017.

    New figures looking at train delays show the line which links Leeds and Wakefield with London is the worst in the country for punctuality.

    The data, carried about the consumer association WHICH, shows Virgin East Coast had the highest number of delays lasting between 30 minutes and two hours this year.

    It found that 3.7% of their services were deemed to be running significantly late.

    The association says train companies now need to make it easier for frustrated passengers to claim compensation.

    Have you seen missing Patrick Thornton?

    The 63-year-old went missing on December 22 from the Jubilee Gardens area of Leeds.

    Mr Thornton is described as a white male, about 5ft 6in tall, of a slim build and has a bald head.

    He was last seen wearing khaki trainers and a dark blue padded coat.

    He is known to have links to Methley, Great Preston, Kippax and Castleford and also owns a caravan in the Hull area.

    A taxi driver from Sheffield has raised £15,000 in memory of a teenager who died of Sudden Death Syndrome.

    Chris Hudson, 49, completed his fundraising adventure at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough stadium after he has walked 1510 miles in memory of Kyle Hancock, who suddenly died at the age of 18 to the syndrome.

    The money raised will pay for young people to have an ECG to detect any abnormalities and reduce the risk of sudden death syndrome.

    A man is seriously ill after being hit by a truck on a motorway slip road.

    Police were called to a serious road traffic collision at junction 46 southbound of the M1 near to Garforth at 05:01.

    They had received reports of a collision between a truck and a pedestrian.

    The section of road has remained closed since and diversions are in place.

    The M1 southbound is currently closed close to Garforth in West Yorkshire.

    That means big queues as motorists strive to find a way to work.

    It appears, at the moment, that it may be closed for much of the morning.

    A 12-week-old kitten has been rescued from inside a sofa after firefighters chopped up the piece of furniture with hacksaws and hydraulic cutters.

    The kitten's owners were "very grateful" after officers from North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service saved the pet on Thursday afternoon at their family home in Tadcaster.

    Emma Clark, 30, who owns the kitten with her husband Stuart, said she was relieved to be reunited with the pet.

    "They absolutely saved her life," the 30-year-old mother-of-three said. "Without them she absolutely would not be here."

    The body of a woman has been found in a car park of a Leeds church.

    She was discovered by police in a parked car at the Moortown Baptist Church just before 09:00 GMT this morning.

    Officers say her death isn't suspicious, but they'd like to speak to anyone who might have seen a dark coloured Ford KA in the car park today or in the past 24 hours.

    Highways England has issued a warning to drivers to be prepared before setting out on journeys tomorrow because of a severe weather alert for the north of England.

    With snow forecast for the early hours of Friday morning, Highways England said it would have gritting teams working around the clock to treat roads and keep them free from disruption.

    An amber warning for snow will be in place across the North West, Yorkshire and the North East between 04:00 and 11:00 tomorrow morning following a Met Office forecast of snow.

    The agency said the routes most likely to be affected include the M61, M65, M66, M6 north of junction 36, M62 between junctions 21 and 23, and the M60 between junctions 15 and 24 as well as the A69, A66 Old Spital and A628 Woodhead Pass

    Dogs have been taken to visit patients on a hospital ward in North Yorkshire under a scheme that's being hailed a success.

    The three dogs called Otis, Betty and Rebus (pictured above) have been taken on visits to York Hospital once a week to provide a much-needed boost for patients.

    Doctors claim that time spent with a dog or cat increases levels of well-being hormones and helps combat feelings of loneliness.

    The dogs are provided by the charity Pets as Therapy (PAT).

    Police want to speak with the man (pictured above) after a 20-year-old man was knocked unconscious in a McDonald's on Blake Street.

    The assault happened at about 05:00 on Thursday 21 December 2017.

    A second arrest has been made by officers investigating a suspicious death in South Yorkshire.

    The 38-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man in Balby.

    The un-named woman is the second person to be arrested in connection with the death of the man, thought to be in his 70s, who was discovered by ambulance staff last Tuesday.

    An ambulance crew contacted police at around 12:20 on Tuesday 26 December after being called to a flat on Low Road in the Balby area of Doncaster.

    A woman in her early 50s has been taken to hospital by air ambulance after suffering a serious leg injury outside Selby Train Station.

    The woman was injured at about 8:50 this morning during a collision between a Citroen Berlingo and a Ford Tourneo.

    North Yorkshire Police say the site has been closed to traffic while police carry out investigations.

    Police are looking for 33-year-old Sean Evans from Rotherham.

    He is wanted in connection with offences including criminal damage and breaching a court order.

    Mr Evans is from the Aston area of Rotherham and police are advising anyone who sees him not to approach him and instead report any sighting to the police.

    Swansea City have appointed former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal as their new permanent boss.

    Player-coach Leon Britton had been in temporary charge of Swansea since the Premier League's bottom side sacked Paul Clement on 20 December.

    Carvalhal, 52, was dismissed by Wednesday on Christmas Eve, with the Owls 15th in the Championship table.

    The Portuguese joins Swansea initially until the end of the season with the option of an extension.

    An online fundraising page set up in memory of a supermarket worker who was fatally attacked in North Yorkshire has raised more than £14,000.

    The page had a target of £1,000 which will be used to relieve pressures and help the family.

    But five days into the fundraiser more than 770 people have pledged cash totalling more than £14,000.

    Mum-of-one Jodie Willsher, 31, died after being attacked in the Aldi store in Skipton last week.
