    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering an 86-year-old woman more than two decades ago.

    Amy Shepherd was found dead at her sheltered housing home home in Wibsey, Bradford, in August 1994.

    A post-mortem examination revealed she had been strangled, stabbed and sexually assaulted.

    West Yorkshire Police said a 69-year-old man from the Halifax area had been arrested in connection with Ms Shepherd's death.

    Rother Valley Labour MP, Sir Kevin Barron, has described the case for the government's planned high speed rail line (HS2) from London to Leeds and Manchester as "flaky at best".

    Sir Kevin told the Commons despite previously supporting plans for the line, he is no longer sure it will benefit his constituents.

  4. Funeral of Huddersfield teen killed at bus stoppublished at 06:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    The funeral's being held today for a Huddersfield teenager who died in a crash while waiting for a bus.

    Katelyn Dawson, who was 15 years old, lost her life in the Moldgreen part of the town.

    She died after suffering fatal injuries while waiting at the stop on Broad Lane, close to its junction with Wakefield Road.

    A 47-year-old woman was also injured when the driver of a BMW lost control and hit the stop.

    Katelyn, who went to Shelley College, was airlifted to the Leeds General Infirmary, but died in hospital.

    The crisis at the top of City of York council continues this morning. The leader, David Carr, has been sacked by his conservative party colleagues.

    It's understood he's been replaced by former Lord Mayor, Ian Gillies.

    The appointment is yet to be formerly agreed by full council.

    David Carr lost his role as leader of the conservative group following a vote of no confidence within his own party

    The row started last week when it emerged he'd sacked one senior colleague, Stuart Rawlings and a second, Sam Lisle, quit - citing irreconcilable differences with the leader.

    The conservative group and council will be hoping to draw a line under this as their budget for the next year is due to be published today.

    The signs will be up for six months, giving people plenty of chance to get the message, with the Tour de Yorkshire being promoted for the first three months.

    After that, they'll be changed to something that will encourage people to hop on a train up to God's Own.

    A model pirate ship located opposite Northcliffe Gardens was damaged and turned on its side last night.

    Filey in Bloom organisers have described it as "mindless vandalism" and say: "This would certainly take three or more people to do this."

    Two men have been arrested after a gun was fired at a window in Bradford last week.

    The men, aged 22 and 20, were arrested after a window was shot through on Fenby Avenue last Wednesday.

    Both men remain in custody today as police continue to make enquiries.

    Police say they want to find out more about a light blue Volkswagen Golf which was found burned out in another area of the city.
