    There is a generation of babies and toddlers in Sheffield who are getting into live music at a much younger age.

    A series called Concerteenies playing live classical music and jazz aimed at the very young has proved so popular it's now running sessions in four venues across the city.

    Vocalist Lindsay Dracass, who represented Great Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest and is in the BBC's new series All Together Now has performed for the scheme:

    Survivors of UK terrorist attacks and bereaved relatives have launched a group to lobby the government over its anti-terror policies.

    Survivors Against Terror wants more effective measures against terrorism and greater support for its victims.

    Founders include the husband of murdered West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox and Dan Hett, whose brother Martyn was killed in the Manchester Arena bombing.

    Brendan Cox (picutred) said the group would try "to defeat terrorism at its source".

    He added: "What terrorists want is for us to turn against each other, to hate each other.

    "And what we want to do as a country is to come together in a united way and make sure we defeat it".

    A group of teenagers, who've fled conflict in Syria and Afghanistan, have experienced panto for the first time.

    They've now settled in West Yorkshire and were keen to experience different elements of British culture.

    Workers in Wakefield, Doncaster and Huddersfield are among the ten cities or towns most at risk of losing their jobs to robots, a report claims.

    The Centre for Cities estimates that by 2030 nine areas could lose more than a quarter of jobs to automation and artificial intelligence (AI). Roles in shops, administration and warehouses are the most at risk.

    The government has said it is committed to helping people secure "the jobs of tomorrow" with a national retraining scheme.

    And it said developing AI could create a net increase of 80,000 jobs a year, external in countries with a population the size of the UK.

    The Centre for Cities claims that by 2030 more than three million jobs across Great Britain could be lost as robots are used more widely in the workplace.

    MPs will debate today whether it's a good idea for members of the public to be able to buy fireworks.

    More than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling for a ban, which would mean organised displays only.

    The Bradford house of Saeed Rehman was destroyed two months ago, after a lit firework was pushed through his letterbox.

    It looks like a political row, which has rocked the City of York Council, could intensify this week.

    The Labour Group says the chaos at the top of the authority is threatening the setting of the annual budget - which is expected to be published this week.

    Last week the Conservative leader, David Carr, lost two members of his top team: he sacked one and a second resigned.

    This followed two Liberal Democrat executive members being asked to stand down last year.

    Labour say with so much antagnoism within the coalition administration, it's unclear whether they can finalise the budget.

    A regular Conservative group meeting is due to take place later, where its expected members will discuss the recent row.

    A procession has been held in York to mark the reopening of the city's Mansion House after a £2.6m restoration programme.

    The historic house was built in 1732 and is the official home of the city's Lord Mayor.

    It closed in August 2015 for work that included restoring the exterior as well as expanding the space to display the building's history.

    The work was partly funded by a £1.2m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

    The parade through the city's streets was led by Lord Mayor Barbara Boyce.

  9. Man 'fighting for his life' after Bradford assaultpublished at 06:54 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2018

    A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being assaulted in Bradford city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

    Police say it happened near the Bentley’s bar on Godwin Street between 01:30 and 02.15.

    It's believed the victim, a 35-year-old man, intervened in a dispute in the street between two groups before being assaulted himself. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he is being treated for a serious head injury.

    Detective Inspector Matt Walker, of Bradford District CID, said: “Given the time this assault happened, there will have been a number of people in the area, either making their way between bars or heading home.

    He made this appeal: “It may be you witnessed some people fighting but at the time thought nothing more of it and didn’t believe it was worth reporting.

    “We have a man fighting for his life in hospital and need anyone who has any information, to please come forward.”

    Children's services once mired in a child sexual exploitation scandal have been transformed, government inspectors have said.

    Rotherham Council has been given an overall "good" rating following an Ofsted inspection in November.

    The service had been judged to be failing following 2014's Jay Report, external, which found up to 1,400 children were sexually abused between 1997 and 2013.

    Ofsted said the authority had made "significant improvement".

    "The local authority has taken a systematic and rigorous approach to improvement since the last Ofsted inspection in 2014 which identified widespread and serious failures," the inspectors said.
