Researchers carried out experiments between adult dogs and humans which revealed "dog-speak" improves dog attention and may help humans to socially bond with their pets.

Previous studies suggested talking in a high-pitch voice with exaggerated emotion, like adults do with babies, improved engagement with puppies, but made little difference with adult dogs.

Unlike previous experiments, real humans were in the same room as the dog, rather than speech being broadcast over a loudspeaker.

Alex Benjamin, from the university, says adult dogs are more likely to spend time with the speaker using doggy speak rather than those using adult speech.
