    More than £4,000 has been raised to help a pony suspected of being attacked with acid.

    The animal is being treated at an equine hospital in North Yorkshire, after being found abandoned in Derbyshire.

    The animal, thought to be about eight months old, was injured and "riddled with parasites" when it was taken to the hospital.

    Vet David Rendle, who's praised the male foal as a "plucky little thing", says its injuries looked like "someone had thrown a chemical substance into its face".

    A crowdfunding page has now been set up to pay for her care.

    It's claimed attacks on staff at Leeds prison are happening almost every day.

    The Independent Monitoring Board's released it's annual report highlighting the level of assaults on officers.

    It says they've gone up by 61% in the last year.

    Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service also admitted "levels of violence, self-harm and drug-use at Armley are "too high."

    At the end of 2017 prison inspectors described HMP Leeds as "violent, unsafe and severely overcrowded" and said illegal drugs were "easily available" in the jail.

    Efforts begin today to prevent rubbish piling up on the streets of Kirklees, where bin workers are considering possible industrial action.

    Their union claims they're being "bullied and intimidated" by managers and are owed a total of 23 years of leave, because there aren't enough staff to do the job.

    The council's admitted there's a problem and has brought in an independent investigator.

    Managers from Kirklees Council will meet the staff later.

  6. MMR reminder to parents following outbreakspublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 26 April 2018

    People across Yorkshire and the Humber are being encouraged to check they and their children have had two doses of MMR vaccine.

    Since the end of 2017 more than 50 cases of measles have been reported in the region, with the majority of these linked to a previous outbreak in Leeds and an ongoing outbreak in Bradford.

    Public Health England, external is working with local authorities and the NHS to make sure anyone in the region who needs a vaccination to protect against the virus is aware.

    Rotherham's TV legends the Chuckle Brothers are to get their own Saturday tea time show, almost a decade after ChuckleVision ended.

    Chuckle Time will be on Channel 5, who describe it as an hour-long "family-friendly clip show".

    It will mix sketches performed by Paul and Barry with videos of "fails, flops and funnies" uploaded by viewers.

    The pair, both now in their 70s, have been children's TV fixtures since the 1980s.

    There will be 12 episodes in the new series and no transmission date has yet been announced.

  10. Poundworld closures: 'Chain cannot pass on cost increases'published at 17:04 British Summer Time 26 April 2018

    More on the news that West Yorkshire-based discount retailer Poundworld is looking at closing about 100 of its 355 stores, putting up to 1,500 jobs at risk.

    Poundworld is expected to announce the terms of the Company Voluntary Arrangement next month and As well as closing stores it would try to get agreement from landlords to reduce rents.

    The chain imports a lot of its stock and is having to pay more for it because of the fall in the value of the pound.

    However, unlike most retailers Poundworld cannot pass on its cost increases to customers because its business model means it sells everything for a pound.

    Poundworld employs about 5,500 staff and has its headquarters in West Yorkshire.

    The company was formed in 2004, but it says it can trace its origins "back to 1974 and a market stall in Wakefield, West Yorkshire".

    The company also has seven shops in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

  13. Driver cleared of drug plot after £9,000 found in his carpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 26 April 2018

    A driver has been cleared of being involved in a Carlisle drug-dealing plot after police found almost £9,000 in his car.

    Gurparshad Singh Rothore, 23, from Leeds, had told a Carlisle Crown Court jury that he thought he was giving a friend a lift to Carlisle to visit a girlfriend.

    But his passenger, Jose Mboma, 21, of Green Pasture Close, Leeds, is now awaiting sentence having admitted being involved in a conspiracy to supply cocaine and possessing criminal property.

    Mark Eric Libby, 27, of Shaddongate; and 23-year-old Brendan Laverick, of Caslin Way, have each admitted the cocaine conspiracy charge, and will also be sentenced at a later date.

    West Yorkshire discount retailer Poundworld is looking at closing about 100 of its 355 stores, putting up to 1,500 jobs at risk.

    The company is also considering an insolvency process called a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

    Like many retailers Poundworld has been hit by falling consumer confidence, rising overheads and the weaker pound.

    Poundworld- based in Wakefield - is owned by private equity firm TPG Capital, which also owns restaurant chain Prezzo whose landlords agreed to a CVA last month.

    The company also has seven shops in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

  16. Dozens of lorry tyres cleared from beauty spot riverpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 26 April 2018

    A river in North Yorkshire has had 62 lorry tyres which were dumped there removed today.

    The tyres had been left at Bishopdale Beck near Leyburn and had to be removed by the Environment Agency.

    The site, which is near the River Ure and just down from the famous Aysgarth Falls is a prime fish spawning location.

    Because of this the crews had to act quickly to remove them.

    Environment Agency officers have taken them away to be recycled.

    A rugby league player says a ring he was given after last year's Super League Grand Final has been stolen when his house was burgled this week.

    Leeds Rhinos player Stevie Ward says "it hurt a lot" to find out that the ring had been taken along with other items from his house.

    Mr Ward says his house was burgled at some point on Tuesday, a discovery he made when he returned home that evening.

    In a tweet he said "If some joker tries to sell you one, it’s mine."

  18. Travel update: M62 reopened after lorry overturnspublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 26 April 2018

    The M62 westbound at has reopened after a lorry overturned earlier spilling its load of soft drinks all over the carriageway.

    Amazingly there were no injuries from the crash.

    Delays have now almost completely reduced to normal traffic flow.
