    A dog in North Yorkshire is being blamed for causing a fire which resulted in all this damage:

    North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service says the Selby pooch managed to turn the gas hob on while the owner was out.

    Luckily the smoke alarm went off and neighbours raised the alarm quickly.

    Fire crews came out and managed to keep the fire in the area of the kitchen.

    West Yorkshire-based supermarkets Asda and Morrisons are among 40 retailers who have signed up to a new campaign to get rid of single-use plastic.

    One of the promises which the companies have signed up to is to make 100% of plastic packaging ready for recycling or composting by 2025.

    The UK Plastics Pact is the first of its kind in the world and has been welcomed by Environment Secretary Michael Gove.

    Marks and Spencer and Nestle have also made a pledge to change their wrapping.

    A big party has been planned on the day before this year's Tour de Yorkshire starts in Leeds city centre.

    BBC Radio Leeds presenter Stephanie Hirst, Leeds band The Dunwells and the West Yorkshire Rock Choir will entertain the crowds while cycling fans get up close to their racing heroes.

    The Eve of Tour show is free to go to and starts at 18:00 on 2 May 2018 at Millennium Square.

    This year's race is the longest yet, now spanning four days and starts in Beverley and ends in Leeds, taking in most of Yorkshire along the way.

    Officer have issued a warrant for 32-year-old Ashley Whiting from Knottingley for theft.

    West Yorkshire Police say it's in connection with thefts including a recent offence at a takeaway.

    Insp Paul Sullivan said: “We have had a number of inquiries ongoing to locate Ashley Whiting who police want to speak with in connection with theft offences, from stores across the whole of Wakefield District.

    In an open letter to supporters - Andrea Radrizzani says next month's tour will help bring people together and will include coaching clinics for local children.

    Meanwhile, Yorkshire Euro-MP, Amjad Bashir, has written to Leeds, urging the club to "come to its senses" and call off the visit.

    The Championship side are scheduled to play fixtures on 9 and 11 May in the country, where families have fled their homes because of military operations.

  15. Royal wedding: Pampered Mirfield dog gets £5,000 kennelpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 25 April 2018

    A £5,000 dog kennel based on Windsor Castle has been built by a lottery-winning owner for her pampered pooch to watch the royal wedding in style.

    Susan Crossland, 53, has commissioned the 6.5ft (2m) high, hand-painted kennel made for Archie, her 10-year-old lhasa apso.

    Mrs Crossland, from Mirfield, West Yorkshire, said: "I love royal weddings and I love the royals."

    Along with her husband Michael, 49, she won £1.2 million in 2008.

    There's to be a Caribbean Carnival parade in Masham.

    It'll take place as the Tour De Yorkshire passes through a week on Sunday.

    It's organised by the team behind the annual Leeds West Indian Carnival.

    Meanwhile in Barnsley, there'll be a town centre music festival called In Gear on 4 May.

    It'll feature local music acts playing on a stage in Mandela Gardens and other central venues.

  18. Ex sports coach faces 13 historical sex chargespublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 25 April 2018

    A 70-year-old man faces 13 charges of sexual abuse against teenage boys in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

    Police say Dylan Lamb, formerly known as Johnathan Haythorne, of Queens Court in Scawby, has been charged with five counts of indecent assault, four counts of gross indecency and four counts of additional, serious sexual offences.

    The charges relate to offences reportedly committed in Rotherham, Doncaster and Brigg in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

    At the time he was working as a football coach in South Yorkshire and a hockey coach in North Lincolnshire.

    Mr Lamb has been bailed until his appearance at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on 22 May.

  19. Man charged with attempted murder in Rotherhampublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 25 April 2018

    A man has been charged with attempted murder following a serious attack at St Mary’s View in Greasbrough last week.

    The 31-year-old was found with serious slash wounds to his neck and arm at noon on Sunday 22 April.

    Miciah Homer, aged 23, of Manor Oaks Gardens in Sheffield has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident.

    Three other men have been released under investigation after previously being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
