Pupils climb 6ft fence to escape Thirsk schoolpublished at 09:46 British Summer Time 2 May 2018
Two young boys ran away from a North Yorkshire primary school by scaling a 6.5ft (2m) high fence and crossing a busy road, it's been revealed.
The Thirsk Community Primary School pupils, aged four or five, were located quickly after a search was launched, the school has confirmed.
They were found at their grandparents' house in Norby, but to get there they would have to had to cross the busy A61.
Headteacher Richard Chandler told parents in a letter about the incident.
In the letter, Mr Chandler says teachers discovered the boys were missing when classes lined up to go back into school.
A search was then carried out and their parents were told.
Mr Chandler says the school takes its responsibilities for pupil safety very seriously and supervision throughout the day has been reviewed.
A North Yorkshire County Council investigation is also under way.
