    A police operation against crime and anti-social behaviour at a Bradford estate has resulted in more than 30 arrests.

    West Yorkshire Police said the arrests were made last week in the Holmewood area over a period of five days.

    The operation came after some residents told the police there were "tensions in the area".

    The force said 34 people were arrested and 14 of them had been charged with a range of offences.

    Thirsk's "famous' yarnbombers have been at it again ahead of this year's Tour de Yorkshire.

    Covering the town with knitted decorations ahead of the race passing through on Saturday.

    The idea began in 2015 when the town's knitters and crocheters got together to decorate the area ahead of the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire.

    A man who beat his partner, who was from Bradford, to death before showing her dead body to relatives has been found guilty of murder.

    Derby Crown Court heard Ataul Mustafa, 36, of Pear Tree Crescent, in Normanton in Derby, subjected Sohbia Khan to "domestic violence on a savage scale" before her death in May 2017.

    Tests showed Ms Khan, 37, had suffered 36 recent injuries across her body, including burns from an iron.

    Mustafa, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, showed her dead body to members of his family at his Normanton home - prompting his brother to ring the police.

    Housing chiefs in Doncaster want to tackle a steep rise in the number of bedsits and shared houses, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    A report seen by councillors on the planning committee highlights the town centre, Hexthorpe and Balby as areas with high numbers of homes of multiple occupancy (HMOs).

    The report says HMOs are often associated with reports of anti-social behaviour.

    Figures show there are 978 HMOs in Doncaster - 83% of which are based in Balby, Hexthorpe, the town centre, Intake and Wheatley Hills.

    Across Doncaster, 57% of all HMOs attracted a complaint to the council. In Hexthorpe 46 out of 47 HMOs received a complaint between 2012 and 2017.

    A man has appeared in court charged with using abusive and threatening behaviour and obstructing a police officer at a tree protest on 26 February.

    Robert Pearson of Valley Road, Sheffield, was given conditional bail to appear for trial before magistrates on 9 July.

    The tree felling is part of Sheffield City Council's £2bn Streets Ahead project, aimed at improving roads and footpaths in the city.

    About 5,500 trees have been cut down since 2012 prompting a number of protests.

    The council, which is planting new trees after removing existing ones, insists the trees earmarked for felling are either "dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory".

    However, many of the trees classed by the council as "damaging" or "discriminatory" are healthy specimens which campaigners say should be saved.

    Instead, they say amendments should be made to surrounding pavements and roads.

    Police have appealed for witnesses after a car crash last night left a man dead.

    The crash happened on the A655 Black Road, Wakefield, at about 23:20 and involved a grey BMW 3-Series.

    West Yorkshire Police said the driver, a 21-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

    His male passenger, also 21, escaped with minor injuries. The road was closed until 06:00 this morning.

    The country's first ever secret ballot was held in Pontefract and to celebrate the fact a special comic has been produced to show young people how democracy has developed over the years.

    Potwallopers tells the story of the first time voters were able to make their choice in private in 1872.

    Previously all votes were cast in public which meant the system was open to corruption and intimidation.

    The comic was created by Wakefield Council and artist Jade Sarson and you can read it online here, external or grab a copy from Pontefract Museum.

    Ben Ackroyd was last seen leaving Notre Dame High School on Fulwood Road North walking in the direction of Broomhill at 08:50 this morning, South Yorkshire Police said.

    He was wearing a green jumper bearing the school logo, and a hooded jacket.

    Plans to spend about £4m on improvements to one of Sheffield's historic cemeterys will be considered later today.

    The General Cemetery in Sharrow, originally opened in 1836 and closed for burials in the 1970s, was the main cemetery in Victorian Sheffield.

    Improvements being considered by the city council include work on its entrances, walls, catacombs and some of the monuments.

    Leeds city bosses say they've been given "strong reassurances" from Asda, which has its HQ in the city, that its offices will be staying even if the proposed merger with Sainsbury's happens.

    Film-makers and independent producers are meeting today to find out what they can do to try and persuade Channel 4 to make Sheffield its new headquarters.

    A North Yorkshire garden centre badly damaged in a fire has reopened to the public.

    About 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at Strikes Garden Centre in Stokesley three weeks ago.

    Sugary drinks have been barred from sale at the council's headquarters and vending machines have been removed from its buildings.

    Elsewhere in the town, takeaway food outlets are also being encouraged to offer healthier meal choices.
