  1. Final 25kmpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Tobyn Horton has found the pace too hot in the break and has dropped away. He's hurting so much that he's dropped straight through the peloton too.

So we have just three left out front. Tom Baylis is the only Brit left. Garikoitz Bravo and Stephane Rossetto are the other two. And as I type this, Cofidis rider Rossetto has another dig.

And that splinters the break. Rossetto went solo many kilometres ago and now he is solo again. His lead is just under one minute.

  3. Who will shine on the final climb?published at 17:13 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport

Superman Stannard is doing a massive stint on the front of the peloton as they turn right at Harewood House and head to Cote de Old Pool Bank.

Team Sky have two possible options for the finish today - Owain Doull and Dylan van Baarle. Both ride well over this sort of terrain.

The favourites are defending champion Serge Pauwels, Greg van Avermaet and Jonathan Hivert though.

Pauwels' Dimension Data team might well be smarting after they missed out putting Mark Cavendish in position for victory on stage one.

Belgian Van Avermaet, who, you may recall, is the 2016 Olympic champion and thrives on up-and-down days like today, as does Frenchman Jonathan Hivert.

  4. It's a tough climb, even worse with a trailerpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Hats off to this bloke, he's even done it with a trailer!

  5. The finish line in Ilkley looms large and lovelypublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

We shouldn't be surprised that we're getting so many great shots of the finish line at the Cow and Calf, it's pretty difficult to take a bad picture up there

  6. Another near misspublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Three riders in the break misjudge a tight right-hander and almost stack it into a couple of parked cars - parked, I might add, in absolutely the right place.

The peloton swings round the same corner a minute later and dozens of fans are helpfully pointing out the correct line.

Inside the final 35km. It's time to get serious.

  7. Leaders go the wrong waypublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Whoah...what just happened there? The leaders swing right round a corner and meet oncoming traffic.

Race radio, which helpfully is in French, is suggesting that the lead car led them the wrong way, which explains why there were cars in the road.

Former rider David Millar, on TV commentary is helpfully talking us through this.

The leaders are directed back on to the race route but more than one minute has been slashed off their advantage. That's hugely unfortunate for the four out front and all-but ends any hope they had of making it to the end.

I have never seen anything like that before. There are yellow arrows on the side of the road clearly showing the route.

    Just 37km remaining.

  8. They're all going bananas for the Cow and Calfpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Why you'd ride up the Cow and Calf dressed as a banana is beyond us, but good effort:

  9. Baylis wins intermediate sprintpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport

It all feels a little like the calm before the storm.

Ian Stannard wipes a little sweat from his brow as he continues to plow the lone furrow at the front of the peloton. He has, almost single-handedly, reduced the deficit to the quartet out front to two minutes.

The leaders are on to the intermediate sprint in Scholes. Tom Baylis and Tobyn Horton are fighting for this. It's close on the line, the camera angle isn't great...but we eventually get confirmation that One Pro Cycling rider Baylis nicked it.

    A touch over 40km remaining.

  10. Watch: Crowds line the routepublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

The Tour de Yorkshire is always well attended and as the race firmly enters West Yorkshire people have come out in force:

  11. Feeding timepublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport

The riders have just ambled through the feeding zone and there are a decent number of fans waiting just after to snaffle discarded goodies. One man goes scurrying into the gutter to pick up an empty water bottle.

My son was handed one by a Movistar rider after the finish of stage one of the 2014 Tour de France in Harrogate. He was delighted and couldn't wait for me to get home from covering the race to show me. We took it on holiday to France. The lid made it back, the bottle did not. Oddly, the lid still resides in a drawer. He's never forgiven me.

Just 55km left for the riders on the road. And the lead holding firm around two minutes, 20 seconds.

  12. Tanfield back with pelotonpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Harry Tanfield, winner of stage one, had dropped some distance off the back of the peloton, but he is back in there now. That's more down to the fact that the peloton slowed for a breather than young Harry wasting too much energy.

The leading quartet are now approaching three minutes clear.

The diesel engine of Team Sky's Ian Stannard is pulling along the peloton - just 65km remaining as they wind through a very busy Pontefract. Hundreds of fans cheering the riders on.

  13. It's tough at the top.. of the Cow and Calfpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Let's not forget that the finish line for today's stage is right near the Cow and Calf, the pub that is.

There are a fair few out enjoying some bikes and beer well in advance of the riders turning up:

  14. Hooton with pride for Yorkshirepublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

There are many things we can be proud of in Yorkshire, one of them is definitely the names of out towns an villages.

  15. The quartet are 80km from Ilkleypublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Tom Baylis is one of the men in the break. If you were with us yesterday, you'll recall the One Pro Cycling rider was in that break too - a rare successful one on a flat stage, even though he didn't win - but today is an even bigger ask, giving the climb to the summit finish at the Cow and Calf Rocks on Ilkley Moor.

Tobyn Horton of Madison Genesis and Garikoitz Bravo of the Euskadi Murias team are the other two riders with Stephane Rossetto of Cofidis.

The lead is approaching two minutes, 20 seconds.

  16. Four out front in Yorkshirepublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport

The Tour de Yorkshire is not the only big bike race going on today. The Giro d'Italia - a three-week race around Italy for the uninitiated (although this year's is starting in Jerusalem, obviously) has just finished stage one of 21.

Britain's Chris Froome is among the favourites but a pre-race crash left him covered in bandages and he finished 37 seconds behind stage winner and defending champion Tom Dumoulin.

    More on that here.

Meanwhile, on the mean streets of Yorkshire, Stephane Rossetto of Cofidis has been caught and joined by three riders who jumped out of the peloton. And the quartet has built up a lead approaching two minutes. 85km remaining

  17. No need to nag to get a better viewpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Ever wondered what it was like watching the Tour de Yorkshire on the back of a police horse.

    Wonder no more:

  18. Red alertpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Stephane Rossetto of Cofidis has gone again.

He made a move earlier and has struck out again.

He's got 15 seconds on the field.

But they are pulling him back and bridging that distance.

  19. 100km to gopublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

The fast pace has really seen the field sort itself out.

Big name teams and riders have risen to the front of the field.

Yesterday's winner Harry Tanfield is already around 90 seconds behind the leaders.

Mark Cavendish is running a domestique role today as it's not the stage for him.

The peloton have put a shift in and squashed the gap to zero.

    Who goes next?

If one goes, they all have to go - it's a high stakes game that will see their endurance pushed to breaking point as we still have plenty of tarmac to see.

  20. Thanks Barnsley, give yourself a pat on the backpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

About an hour ago it was all cheering and happy faces in Barnsley.

But now it's time to get the barriers down and have a brew:
