  2. Guarnier celebrates women's Tour de Yorkshire winpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

It's a huge celebration at the finish line for Megan Guarnier as she is crowned overall winner of the women's Tour de Yorkshire.

The american battled her way up past the Cow and Calf rocks on Ilkley Moor, sprinting her final 500m in the lead and through the finish line.

  3. Rowe finishes thirdpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Alena Amialiusik keeps pedalling and crosses the line in second. And here comes Dani Rowe. A superb effort from the Brit who finishes third on the stage and with time bonuses to factor in could end up second overall.

But take nothing away from Guarnier, who is celebrating her 33rd birthday today. Not a bad way to mark it.

  5. Guarnier goespublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Megan Guarnier finally attacks with 500m to go. Alena Amialiusik tries to go with her but cannot get close.

If the American wins the stage she will win the Tour de Yorkshire

  6. Just moments until the endpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

It's just moments until the women's race comes to an end and the cyclists are fighting their way up past the Cow and Calf rocks on the moor in Ilkley.

Here's a shot of the finish line crowd:

  7. Final kilopublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Is Dani Rowe in trouble? Or is she pacing this climb to perfection? Karol-Ann Canuel cracks and starts pedalling through treacle. So Megan Guarnier is on her own.

  8. On the final climbpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

This climb is officially 1.8km long with an average gradient of 8.2%. There are sections that are much steeper than that though.

Dani Rowe has dropped to the back of this leading bunch - she is tracking Megan Guarnier.

World champion Chantal Blaak is the first to crack. Boels-Dolmans down to two already.

  9. Riders in Ilkleypublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Alena Amialiusik of the Canyon Sram team is in this leading 14. The Belarus rider is their big climber. She has been pretty quiet throughout the race - does she have the energy?

The riders are just into Ilkley. 3km from the finish line but the vast majority is up a big hill. They swing left, cross the River Wharfe and start the steady climb into town before the final ascent begins in earnest.

  10. Final 5km of the women's racepublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

A couple of sheep idly raise their heads as the leaders whizz by before returning their gaze to the green grass at their feet, presumably wondering what all the fuss is about.

The road has flattened out a little. Karol-Ann Canuel tries to sprint clear again but this time her effort is less effective and she gives up almost as quickly as she began it.

  11. Attacks galore at the front of the racepublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

The Boels-Dolmans riders in the break are riding aggressively. Karol-Ann Canuel is the first to go and then Chantal Blaak has a go. Megan Guarnier is saving her legs for the final though.

Their attacks have to be followed but each little effort adds up in the legs. Dani Rowe has closed a couple of attacks down.

Still 7.5km remaining and everyone still together. This is coming down to the 2km showdown on the final climb.

  12. A few words of Yorkshire styled encouragementpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

I've just spotted these very Yorkshire styled words of encouragement along the Tour de Yorkshire route in Elsecar, Barnsley.

Remember, if you're out and about watching the race today... "Dunt gerrint road".

  13. Final 10kmpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

The race is heading into last year's women's Tour de Yorkshire winner Lizzie Deignan's home town of Otley. The streets are well lined with supporters. I suspect a few more might have squeezed in had Lizzie been racing.

Lizzie's Boels-Dolmans team are well represented in the break with two riders, including world champion Chantal Blaak to help Megan Guarnier.

And the riders are quickly through and back into the countryside as they head for the final destination and one short, but brutal climb.

  14. Good news if you're at the finish linepublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

If you're at the Tour de Yorkshire finish line in Ilkley we have some good news - sunshine is on the way.

  15. May the force be with the cyclistspublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Andy Kershaw
    BBC Yorkshire Live

It's May the fourth - known better as Star Wars day - and making sure the force is strong at the start line in Barnsley are these stormtroopers.

Hopefully they won't use their blasters as stage two of the men's race is due to begin at about 14:20.

  16. Rowe in the mix with 15km to gopublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Dani Rowe is trailing Elisa Longo Borghini's every move. This is a valiant effort from the British rider and she is rewarded by getting over the top in the leading group.

Megan Guarnier is also in there - 14 riders are clear and it looks like the winner is coming from this selection.

Team Sunweb's Ellen van Dijk is forcing the pace. She wants this break to stay away. But even if the race comes back together, we've already seen they are the best climbers in the race.

  17. Longo Borghini attackspublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

It's fair to say a lot of riders are toiling up this hill. One of them is Kirsten Wild, stage winner in Doncaster yesterday. She knew today would be too tough for her and buried herself in trying to help her team-mates earlier in the stage.

But she has finally cracked. A tough, long ride left for her.

Up at the front, Elisa Longo Borghini - the Italian champion - is going on the attack...

  18. Heading to Cote de Old Pool Bankpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

We are just 20km from the Cow and Calf Rocks. All the five riders in the break represent the biggest five teams.

They are closing in on the penultimate climb of the stage - Cote de Old Pool Bank - will that be the place for one of the favourites to launch an attack from the peloton?

Or is everyone keeping their powder dry for the big final climb out of Ilkley?

They are on the climb - it's short at just 1km but has an average gradient of 10%.

  19. Why are they called the Cow and Calf?published at 11:44 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Stage 2 of the Tour de Yorkshire will see cyclists battle their way up a steep hill past the Cow and Calf rocks on Ilkley Moor.

Here's two things you might not know about the Cow and Calf rocks:

    1. The rocks were given the name 'Cow and Calf ' because the large rock and small rock sit near each other like a cow and calf.

    2. Local legend says the calf was split from the cow when the giant Rombald stamped on the rock as he leapt across the valley escaping his angry wife.

  20. Another break - 25km to gopublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

There's been another attack and this time five riders have gone clear - including world champion Chantal Blaak. The Boels-Dolmans rider has made an excellent move because her team-mate Megan Guarnier is chasing the overall stage win.

Guarnier is safe in the peloton and will stay there for as long as she can. Blaak won't do too much in the way of helping stretch the lead though - she will be thinking of reserving some energy to help her team-mate when the race comes back together, which it surely will.

The break is only 25 seconds clear.
