    The funeral is taking place today of one of the teenagers killed in a car crash in Leeds last month.

    Declan Grove, who was 19, was one of four people to die when a Seat, in which he was a passenger, collided with a taxi in Horsforth.

    A service for the car's driver - 21-year-old Caelan Megson - took place yesterday.

    Two teenage girls, who were passengers in the car, were also injured, along with the taxi driver.

    The group had just left a party in Horsforth when it happened.

    Sheffield's football star Harry Maguire brought a little World Cup magic to Gainsborough Trinity FC's pre-season friendly against Chesterfield.

    He was at the Northolme to see his brothers Laurence and Joe go head-to-head for the opposing sides.

    Maguire, who scored for England in their 2-0 win over Sweden, signed autographs for fans.

    He tweeted later to say what a "great night" he had.

    More than 900 people turned out to watch the game.

    Long queues formed at half-time as people waited to have their photo taken with one of the heroes of England's World Cup campaign.

    Farmers across are warning people to be careful with discarded cigarette ends and barbecues.

    The cost of holiday childcare in Yorkshire and the Humber has risen by 5% since last summer.

    It means parents spends an average of £130.89 a week across the region.

    The figures have come from the Family and Childcare Trust, external, which says the summer school holidays cost parents across the country about £800 per child.

    People living in the Eastwood area of Rotherham say anti-social behaviour and violence is making their lives a daily misery.

    Residents say street drinking, noise nuisance, fly-tipping and violence are just some of the recurring problems in the area.

    A council plan called The Eastwood Deal promised action by the police, the council and its partners.

    West Yorkshire Police says it's facing a record number of 999 calls, with emergency calls to control rooms increasing by 15% in the last year.

    The figures show on one day in particular, 7 July, there were more than 2,300 calls to 999 - that's more than the number of emergency calls last New Year's Eve.

    The force says that level of demand hasn't been seen for around eight years.

    The message from police is to think before you call 999 - and find another way of getting in touch if it's not an emergency.

    A campaign's been organised to block plans to hold a music festival on a former RAF base in North Yorkshire.

    The Mint Festival would bring thousands of electronic dance music fans to the Leeds East Airport site, formerly RAF Church Fenton, in September.

    People from the nearby villages of Ulleskelf and Church Fenton claim the event caused chaos last year when it was held near Wetherby.

    There were complaints festival-goers left on foot, and were wandering late at night around Spofforth and Wetherby.

    Organisers say: "The Mint team are working closely with all relevant responsible authorities and local parish councils to ensure that this year’s Mint Festival is another safe and enjoyable event."

    Cladding which failed fire tests on a tower block in Sheffield could be replaced if the city council agrees to the plan today.

    The cladding on Hanover Tower in Broomhall failed safety checks carried out in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

    The work would cost the authority nearly £3.5m.

    The metal cladding was added to the 16-storey tower block during a recent refurbishment.

    The council said people living in the 125 properties would not need to move out while the work takes place.

    However, temporary accommodation would be provided if they had any concerns.

    The number of children putting their lives at risk by trespassing on train tracks in West Yorkshire has more than doubled in the last four years, according to figures from British Transport Police.

    The force said there had been over 180 trespass incidents in the county involving youngsters in the last 12 months - compared with 85 in 2014.

    A new campaign's being launched called You versus Train warning teenagers about the consequences of ignoring advice to stay off railway lines.

    The number of young people trespassing on lines has more than doubled in the last three years nationally.

    British Transport Police said the tracks were not a playground and people could be seriously hurt.

    Police say they are growing increasingly concerned for the safety of a man from Hull, who was last seen travelling between Market Weighton and Beverley in the early hours of this morning.

    Michael Foley is 45-years-old and about 5ft 10in tall.

    Officers say he is thought to be driving a silver Jeep Cherokee.

    They've released this photograph but say he no longer has a beard.

    Staff at some hotels in West Yorkshire failed to raise concerns about possible child sexual exploitation after undercover detectives tried to book rooms while in the company of children.

    Officers visited eight hotels across the Wakefield district, they were offered short notice rooms at five of them, despite attending with no luggage in suspicious circumstances.

    West Yorkshire police say: "On each of the visits a male officer attended with either a 14-year-old girl, or a 15-year-old boy and attempted to pay for a room in cash.

    "Other tactics were carried out, such as making it clear breakfast wouldn’t be needed, to try and arouse suspicion."

    DS Phil Davis said: “We were disappointed with the results of this operation and will be speaking with management at the hotels involved, to see what safeguarding training we can provide for staff."

    The first tickets for a local lottery set up to support good causes in a North Yorkshire town go on sale later.

    Called The Local Lotto, organisers say there'll be a weekly jackpot of £25,000 and 60p from every £1.00 ticket sold in the Harrogate area, will go directly to local charities and community groups.

    The announcement of the new district lottery is part of a growing trend of local authority lotteries around the UK, where jackpots are capped at £25,000 (or 10% of sales, whichever is greater).

    A new cinema and restaurant development will go ahead after Doncaster Council had to step in to help fund and develop it.

    The development was initially planned to be delivered by a private company, but after that failed the council stepped in and is investing more than £10 million to make it happen.

    The council own the site and have development consent and have been working with cinema operator Savoy as well as restaurants.

    It's part of a bigger plan for the town centre, inclduing a £20m investment in the Civic Office and £22m investment in the CAST performance venue.

    A further £14m will be spent in the soon to be built Culture and Learning Centre.

    The new development is expected to open in late 2019.

    Yorkshire Water have confirmed there is no hosepipe ban at present in our region, although they are urging customers to use water wisely.

    However, millions of people outside of Yorkshire will be affected by the first hosepipe ban of the summer in England.

    United Utilities (UU) said a temporary ban affecting 7 million people in the north-west of England from 5 August would "safeguard essential supplies".

    It said reservoir levels were already low and hot weather was forecast for the rest of July.

  20. Sheffield cycle race to bring rush-hour road closurespublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 17 July 2018

    A cycle race in Sheffield city centre tomorrow will mean there will be rush-hour road closures in place.

    The Sheffield Grand Prix, part of the British Cycling Circuit series, starts tomorrow afternoon with Arundel Gate, Tudor Square, Pinstone Street and Norfolk Street all being closed.

    Some closures start at 12:00, with other roads closing at 16:30.

    The closures are expected to be lifted by 22:30.
