    A man has been arrested by police investigating the death of a Barnsley woman who was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her home earlier this year.

    The body of Jill Hibberd, 73, was found with multiple stab wounds at a house in Roy Kilner Road in Wombwell, near Barnsley, on 31 May.

    A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods relating to the theft of Ms Hibberd's Audi TT and has been released under investigation.

    Andrew Ashby, 22, of Woolgreaves Avenue, Wakefield, has been charged with assisting an offender in connection with her death.

    Lee Trevor Fueloep, 40, of Willow Garth, Wombwell, was previously charged with murder, theft and burglary and is currently on remand.

    Hull City Supporters' Trust is ready to work with any new ownership group at the club, even if the takeover it backs doesn't go through, according to the trust's chairman.

    Yesterday, financing group Sporty Co revealed it was launching a £45m approach for the club, backed by the trust.

    Supporters' Trust chairman Geoff Bielby told the BBC it would work with any responsible owner, even if the bid isn't successful.

  3. £40m cost of Leeds Clean Air Charging Zone revealedpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 9 October 2018

    Final plans to reduce air pollution in Leeds, including a Clean Air Charging Zone, have been revealed by Leeds City Council.

    The zone will cover more than half the city centre and will see drivers of HGVs, buses, coaches, taxis and private hire vehicles charged for entering the area.

    The council is requesting £40m from the government to fund the infrastructure and operation of the zone and to support businesses to upgrade affected vehicles through grants and loans.

    Councillor James Lewis said: "The plans we're putting forward have been carefully developed following months of consultation with thousands of residents and local businesses to ensure they are the best plans for Leeds.

    "They will improve air quality within the shortest possible time, tackling air pollution and protecting the health of everyone in the city."

    A van carrying prisoners to court broke down on the M18 this morning, meaning police had to close the motorway.

    The prisoners were being transported to Sheffield Crown Court in the back of the van when it broke down, meaning extra transport had to be arranged.

    A full motorway closure was put in place as police and staff moved the prisoners into the new vans.

    Leeds could be on the shortlist to be one of the places to make the new trains for the HS2 rail route.

    HS2 is the £55.7bn planned high-speed rail network initially running between London and Birmingham by 2026, before a second phase expands it to Manchester and Leeds.

    It's been announced today that Spanish company Talgo - which has a factory in Leeds and five other UK locations - is on the shortlist to build the trains for HS2.

    The firm says thousands of jobs will be created by the factory.

    Work on the London to Birmingham HS2 line has already started.

    York Minster's organ is getting a full refurbishment - the first since 1903.

    The instrument, which dates back to the early 1830s, is being removed, including nearly all of its 5,403 pipes, and will be taken to Durham for repair and refurbishment by organ specialists Harrison and Harrison.

    The £2m project will take almost two years to complete, with the restored instrument due to be ready for use in late summer 2020.

    Music at the Minster will continue in the meantime - a grand piano and digital organ will temporarily replace the organ.

    Staff at a fast food outlet in Sheffield have been robbed at gunpoint.

    The theft happened at the KFC on Barnsley Road at about 20:00 last night.

    A man carrying what's believed to have been a handgun walked into the restaurant and threatened staff.

    He left on foot shortly afterwards with an amount of cash, police say.

    No-one was injured in the incident.

    Anyone who saw what happened or has information about the robbery is being asked to contact police.

    Police are appealing for witnesses following a car collision, in which a pedestrian was seriously injured, in Bradford.

    It involved a red Volkswagen Golf who hit a 40-year-old man on Cemetery Road just after 00:00 on Friday 5 October.

    The driver of the Golf pulled over and walked up to the injured pedestrian, but then left the scene without exchanging details.

    A 23-year-old man later attended at a police station and was interviewed in relation to the collision.

    Passengers are being told not to travel to Sheffield by rail after a train derailed inside the station.

    The Northern train became stuck earlier this morning near platform one.

    Announcements at the station say other services are missing out Sheffield to continue with their journeys, with some services either being delayed or cancelled.

    Network Rail staff are working to move the train, but disruption is expected to last until later this afternoon, according to train operators.

    A woman in her 60s from York has died and her passenger has suffered serious injuries following a collision on the A59 at Moor Monkton this morning.

    It happened at about 03:15 this morning and involved a Volkswagen Crafter van heading in the direction of York and a white Ford Focus which was travelling towards Harrogate.

    The driver of the Focus, a woman in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A 71-year-old female passenger, also from York, was taken to a hospital in Leeds with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

    The driver of the Volkswagen van, a 38-year-old man from Halifax, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.

    Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

    A derailed train is causing major disruption on the railways in South Yorkshire.

    The purple Northern train seems to have come off the rails, meaning trains going in and out of the station have been delayed or cancelled.

    Some services are managing to run on time.

    Train operating companies are telling passengers to expect disruption into the afternoon.

    Campaigners with sticky tape on their mouths have held a protest outside County Hall in Beverley over who gets to make decisions on fracking.

    Proposed changes could see the government take control over such decisions away from local councils.

    Campaigners fear the move could result in shale gas exploration wells being drilled without the need for planning permission.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council says it hasn't received any planning applications, nor are there any planning permissions for fracking in East Yorkshire.

    The number of children's homes in Hull is to be increased, the city council has confirmed.

    The authority intends to buy two four-bedroom properties in order to provide extra support to young people with complex needs or disabilities.

    There are currently seven children’s homes in Hull, offering 24-hour-support and additional help to those who most need it. The facilities also provide respite for families.

    The family of a man who was stabbed and later died in hospital in Sheffield have released of photo of him.

    Gavin Singleton, 31, was taken to hospital in the early hours of Sunday 23 September after he was stabbed in the chest on Walkley Lane, Hillsborough.

    He died on Saturday 6 October.

    A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and remains in police custody.

    The family of a North Yorkshire teenager who died in a collision at the weekend has paid tribute to "the most beautiful, caring and fun-loving girl".

    Autumn Hughes, 19, from Burton Salmon, died when her grey Ford Focus collided with a gate post while she was travelling along Burton Common Lane.

    She was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision.
