    The A59 is shut between Moor Monkton and the York outer ring road in both directions following a serious collision.

    Four teenage girls have been sexually assaulted by four men in Hull.

    It happened on Monday 1 October outside a shop on Priory Road, police say.

    The girls were sitting on a bench when they were approached by four men.

    The men assaulted them and it's thought they filmed the attack on a mobile phone.

    Police are appealing for witnesses who might have seen the the incident.

    Police are looking for a 34-year-old man from Driffield, who went missing from his home on Sunday.

    Steven James Musto left his home on Woldholme Avenue at about 17:00 yesterday evening.

    He has not been in contact with his family and did not show up to work this morning.

    Police are concerned for his safety and are asking anyone who has information to come forward.

    A cyclist has been injured after being hit by a car which failed to stop in Bridlington.

    It happened on Friday at about 22:30 on Brett Street.

    A man on his bike stopped at traffic lights near Quay Road when a small blue car collided with him from behind causing him to fall off.

    The cyclist suffered some bruising but was otherwise unhurt.

    Police are trying to find the driver of the blue car which performed a u-turn and drove off in the direction of Gypsey Road.

    Hunting knives and swords are among more than 200 bladed items removed from the streets following a week of action aimed at reducing knife crime in North Yorkshire.

    The weapons, 221 in total, were surrendered anonymously at bins located in police stations around the county.

    As part of the campaign, schools, colleges and universities were provided with materials and advice to help educate young people about the dangers of carrying knives.

  6. Supporters' club backs bid to buy Hull Citypublished at 17:12

    A group of investors backed by Hull City's Supporters' Trust has announced its intention to launch a £45m bid to take over the club.

    SportyCo, which is fronting the bid, says it's working on a deal which will see investors and football fans working together to secure the future of Hull City.

    If successful, supporters would expect to have a say in how the club is run.

    Marko Filej, SportyCo's chief executive officer, said he had already met the current owners and an official letter has been sent to start negotiations.

    A 14-year-old girl has gone missing from her home in Keighley in Bradford.

    Holly Wilson was last seen yesterday afternoon in the Steeton area.

    She's 5ft 7in tall with long light brown hair.

    She was last seen wearing a pink and white neon trainers, a purple vest top and a light brown hooded jacket.

    Anyone with information about her whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

    Shops in Bridlington are taking part in what's known as "Autism Hour" today.

    The hour is for those who have the condition and can find shops stressful due to sensory overload.

    A man is in hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed in an attack in Leeds.

    The 24-year-old victim was taken to hospital after being stabbed on Compton Road, Harehills, at about 14:00 on Sunday.

    He remains in hospital where his injuries are now not considered life-threatening, police say.

    Anyone who witnessed what happened is being asked to contact police.

    A new £1.6m purpose-built women's centre has opened in Hull.

    It's been specially designed and built for women experiencing domestic violence who are seeking support.

    The facility, on Preston Road, is believed to be the first purpose-built women's centre in the UK.

    The centre will have dedicated services like legal and housing services.

    It's directly helped more at least 4,000 women since it opened in its original premises in 2000.

    Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to after a person was reportedly sexually assaulted in student accommodation in Sheffield.

    The attack happened at about 19:45 on Thursday 4 October inside student accommodation in Wellington Street.

    The victim told security who called police and the attacker is believed to have fled the scene.

    Police believe the man pictured could hold vital information which could help their inquiry.

    Firefighters in Leeds have been dealing with an "explosion" which led to several manhole covers being blown off.

    A small fire in an industrial building on Ingram Road in Holbeck led to a blast in the sewer system, according to West Yorkshire Fire Service.

    There had been some overflow of contaminants into the waste system - but this poses no risk to the public, the fire service added.

    No-one was hurt in the incident.

    The road will remain closed until the Highways Agency can repair the damage.

    Fire investigators are now on site to determine the cause of the blaze.

    A terminally-ill man from East Yorkshire has successfully completed his latest physical challenge - potholing in the Yorkshire Dales.

    Jason Liversidge, 42, is almost completely paralysed with advanced motor neurone disease.

    With help, he's successfully abseiled into Lancaster Hole, a 100ft-deep cave entrance.

    Mr Liversidge says he found the experience "fairly traumatic".

    A Sheffield man has been jailed for 11 years after three elderly women were robbed, including a 94-year-old who broke her wrist when she was pushed over.

    Carl Auty, 45, of Gervase Avenue, was charged with three counts of robbery after the thefts in the Crookes and Lowedges parts of the city.

    A 73-year-old and a 76-year-old woman both had their handbags grabbed earlier this year.

    The 94-year-old was then pushed from behind and had her shopping bag stolen in a third attack in May.

    Auty was found guilty of all three robberies.

    The 13th Doctor, Huddersfield's very own Jodie Whittaker, looks to have been a hit with fans following her first episode as the first female Time Lord.

    Her debut was watched by an average of 8.2m viewers, almost double the equivalent episode of last year's series.

    Comments from viewers ranged from "A breath of fresh air", external to "This is everything the show was ever meant to be", external and "Jodie has nailed it at the first attempt, external".

    With a lot of the first episode filmed in Sheffield, local residents may have recognised a few areas including Bramall Lane, Park Hill Flats and the bus station all making an appearance.

    Compensation which will be given to people affected by the Windrush scandal is due to be debated at a roadshow in Leeds later.

    It emerged earlier this year that 164 members of the Windrush generation may have been wrongfully deported or detained.

    The Windrush generation refers to those who moved to the UK from Caribbean countries between 1948 and 1971 but were not given proper documentation proving their indefinite right to remain.

    Today's, in Chapeltown, is being run by people designing a scheme to try to help people affected by the scandal.

    Hugh Goulbourne, from the Huddersfield Windrush Advocacy Group, said: "We've learned that there are many people who have been encountering problems for up to 20 years. It's obviously become a much bigger issue now."

  19. Charity targets people using 'survival sex' to meet billspublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 8 October 2018

    A drop-in service for anyone who exchanges sex for money or daily necessities, external has been launched in York and Scarborough.

    Changing Lives, a charity which helps vulnerable and socially-excluded people, is offering the service for people who exchange sex for basic things like housing, food or simply paying household bills.

    It says: "It's likely that, for a number of people facing severe economic hardship, this seems a rational and relatively straightforward solution to manage their situation.

    "However, the reality is that this sort of relationship is unlikely to represent an enlightened, mutually beneficial transaction."

    Charity staff say the weekly sessions will be informal, friendly and offer non-judgmental support.

    It's hoped by talking to people in similar situations those affected can find more support.
