    The number of fast food outlets being opened in Yorkshire is higher than anywhere else in the country.

    New BBC research shows the number of takeaways has risen by almost 70% over the last eight years, with about 4,000 now open in the region.

    Public Health England's chief nutritionist, Dr Alison Tedstone, said it was working with the food and drink industry to make everyday products healthier.

    The Local Government Association, which represents councils, said local authorities needed "more planning powers" to help tackle the "clustering of existing takeaways already open."

    Homeless people in York are to be offered training to become city tour guides.

    The idea's based on an award-winning project operating in Edinburgh since 2016, which has so far trained 15 homeless people to become walking guides.

    The Invisible York project has been set up by local company Good Organisation, which aims to help disadvantaged residents share in the economic benefits of the city’s tourism industry.

    According to tourism organisation Make It York, almost seven million people visit the city each year with tourism believed to contribute in excess of £564m to the local economy.

    The draw for the first round of the FA Cup is due to take place later this evening, with six teams in Yorkshire in the running.

    The teams in the hat for the draw and their numbers are as follows:

    • 3 - Barnsley
    • 5 - Bradford City
    • 17 - Doncaster Rovers
    • 50 - Warrington Town or Halifax
    • 55 - York City
    • 56 - Harrogate Town or Wrexham

    The winners of this weekend's final qualifying round will receive £25,000 each, while a win in the first round proper is worth £36,000.

    Matches will be played between 9 and 12 November.

    The attack happened on Monday 8 October on Valiant Drive and police have now issued this e-fit image of a man they want to speak to.

    Anyone with information about the stabbings, or who can help identify the man in the picture, is being asked to contact Humberside Police.

    West Yorkshire-based TV soap Emmerdale is up for 13 awards at tonight's Inside Soap Awards.

    The ITV Show is second in the field behind Coronation Street and could take home awards including "Best Shock Twist" and "Best Partnership".

    Emma Atkins is also up for "Best Actress" for playing Charity Dingle.

  11. 'Brexit Britain' caught on camera along A1published at 16:59 British Summer Time 22 October 2018

    A photojournalist has travelled the length of the A1 creating a snapshot of "Brexit Britain".

    The Britain on the Verge exhibition, which features pictures taken in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, is part of Hull's International Photography festival.

    Photographer Peter Dench said the journey not only taught him about people's politics, but it highlighted people's affection for the A1 itself.

    Poppies have been stolen from a war memorial in Bridlington.

    It happened on Wellington Road last night, with 20 large poppies - part of a display to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One - being taken.

    Police are appealing for information.

    A £5,000 reward is being offered to find a man who police want to speak to after a Sheffield man was fatally stabbed earlier this year.

    Kavan Brissett died in hospital four days after being stabbed in Upperthorpe in August.

    Ahmed Farah (pictured), who is also known as Reggie, could be key to police enquiries, the force says.

    Crimestoppers has offered the £5,000 reward for information which leads to his arrest.

  14. 'I thought it was a bomb': Shipley bus crash eyewitnesspublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 22 October 2018

    A bus crash in a West Yorkshire town earlier today was like a bomb going off, according to one eyewitness.

    Noone was injured in the incident which saw a bus crash into an optician's in the centre of Shipley at about midday.

    Retired lorry driver Colin Glover and his wife were standing nearby when the crash happened.

    Mr Glover said: "We heard two loud bangs and then saw a load of what looked like smoke or dust and people running away. I thought at first it was a bomb.

    "I ran straight to the bus and lifted the flap to turn the engine off. There were lots of people trying to help get people off the bus, but I don't know how many there were on board.

    "It was quite a panic. People were wondering what had happened. It was a big surprise and a shock. You do not expect to see a bus sticking halfway in to a shop window."

    The cause of the crash is as yet unknown and investigations are continuing.

    East Yorkshire tennis player Kyle Edmund has won his first ever ATP title.

    The British Number One, who's from Beverley, beat Gael Monfils, leaving him in tears of joy:

    Edmund won in three sets at the European Open in the Belgian city of Antwerp.

    "A lot of hard work goes into this, it's just the emotion of it," Edmund told BBC Sport.

    "It's a great feeling, just overall the bigger picture is the overriding emotion, like so many years putting in the work, on and off the court."

    One lane's closed westbound and it's thought three vehicles are involved.

  17. York experts restore Admiral Nelson's marriage recordpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 22 October 2018

    Experts in York are to repair the document in which the marriage of Admiral Lord Nelson was recorded.

    The badly damaged piece of history is being restored at the University of York.

    The register has made the journey from the church of St John Figtree on the Caribbean island of Nevis, the parish where Nelson married Fanny Nisbet on 11 March 1787.

    The Borthwick Institute at the university was chosen to restore the register because of its wealth of experience in conserving church documents, including registers up to 800 years old.

    Chris Webb (pictured), Keeper of Archives at the Borthwick Institute, said: "We are honoured to have the opportunity to preserve this historic document which marks an important moment in Lord Nelson's life."

    Yesterday was Trafalgar Day, which commemorates Nelson's death as he led the British to victory over the French and Spanish fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805.

    There are high hopes that romance may be in the air at a South Yorkshire wildlife park after the arrival of a new anteater.

    New Yorkshire Wildlife Park resident Tammy, who's three years old, loves to snack on up to 35,000 insects a day.

    But staff at the park, near Doncaster, hope there'll be only one love in her life as she settles in to her new home with current resident Niki.

    It's part of an international breeding programme, though it has to be said that Niki doesn't perhaps look overly happy about sharing his bed with his new roommate:
