    Police are appealing to try and find a missing Sheffield man who hasn't been seen since yesterday.

    Robert Fearn, 30, was last seen at 15:00 on Sunday.

    He was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

    He is described as being white, 5ft 11ins tall and has short brown hair.

    Pooches in a Yorkshire market town are celebrating after finding out they live in the place which received "top barks" for dog-friendliness.

    Malton, North Yorkshire, won the title of the UK's most dog-friendly town, because of its shops and businesses adopting a dog-friendly policy.

    It takes the crown from last year's winner, Melton Mowbray, in Leicestershire.

    Angela Egan, a volunteer with Ryedale Dog Rescue, ran the town's dog-friendly campaign.

    She says: "There is a massive sense of commitment to the canine community in Malton.

    "From the general store to the barber’s shop, it has almost become obligatory to have a dog- friendly policy."

    Suspected burglars threw bricks, bottles and a hammer from their car as they drove away from police following a burglary at a shop in Barnsley.

    Police officers were responding to reports of a burglary at the McColl's shop on Rotherham Road, Great Houghton at 23:20 on Saturday night.

    A silver BMW was seen by officers heading towards Rawmarsh, but despite help from the police helicopter and a police dog, the four suspects couldn't be found.

    The car was seized and police found a large quantity of cigarettes and alcohol in it.

    Unions are calling for more money for mental health services after it emerged NHS trusts across Yorkshire have lost hundreds of specialist staff over the past five years.

    The number of doctors and nurses working specifically on mental health has fallen, despite 19,000 more people seeking help since 2013.

    Bill Adams, from the Trades Union Congress in Yorkshire, says the health service is currently unable to cope with the scale of the problem:

    The government says it's aware of the pressures facing the NHS and has supported it with extra funding.

    Police say the 49-year-old, described as white with short brown hair, is in the Wakefield, Castleford or Normanton area.

    They're asking for anyone who sees her to contact them.

  7. Head leaves Sheffield's Fir Vale school after brawlpublished at 08:48 British Summer Time 22 October 2018

    The head teacher of a school where dozens of police and dog handlers were sent to quell a fight at the gates has left his role "with immediate effect".

    More than 15 police vehicles, dog teams and a helicopter were sent to Fir Vale School in Sheffield last month.

    In a letter to parents, the chairman of governors Usma Saeed wrote that Simon Hawkins has left the school "with immediate effect by mutual agreement".

    A new head had been appointed and will start on 5 November, it added.

    Two people suffered minor injuries after an "altercation" broke out between a group of students on 25 September, South Yorkshire Police said at the time.

  9. Sheffield charity rally clocks up £100,000published at 08:20 British Summer Time 22 October 2018

    Bonnets from cars which took part in the recent charity rally have been auctioned off raising more than £11,000.

    A total of 21 teams left Sheffield last month, arriving in Monte Carlo 1,219 miles later, raising money for youth homelessness charity Roundabout.

    The whole Bangers and Cash rally raised almost £100,000 with team sponsorship making up most of the money.

    The A5086 Lamplugh Road in Cockermouth, from Brigham Road to Fitz Road, is closing for roadworks from today until 4 November.

    The A684 from Sedbergh to the Yorkshire border is closed at Garsdale still, and the St Johns in the Vale Road, which links the A66 at Trelkeld with the A591 near Thirlmere, is also still closed after flood damage a couple of weeks ago.

    The westbound lane is closed on the M62 near Ferrybridge Services at the moment.

    It follows an accident in which a lorry hit some barriers and left the carriageway.

  18. Teenage boy stabbed in Sheffieldpublished at 06:45 British Summer Time 22 October 2018

    A 17-year-old boy has been stabbed in Sheffield.

    It happened shortly after 23:00 on Saturday night on Stannington Road.

    Police say the teenager was found at the scene with stab wounds to his back and leg.

    He was taken to hospital and later released following treatment.

    While officers were at the hospital, an 18-year-old man arrived needing treatment for a serious injury to his arm.

    Police believe his injuries were linked to the incident on Stannington Road.

    A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and remains in custody.

    Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

    Two motorcyclists have died in separate crashes on the same North Yorkshire road.

    The first collision happened at about 14:45 on Saturday afternoon on the A65 near Ingleton.

    The incident involved three cars and a motorbike.

    The driver of one of the cars, an 83-year-old woman from Keighley, was arrested in connection with the incident.

    She has since been released under investigation,

    The rider, a 38-year-old man from Merseyside, died at the scene.

    The second collision happened at about 17:30 on the A65 just south of Settle.

    The rider of the motorcycle involved, a 61-year-old man from Leeds, was taken to hospital by air ambulance, but died a short time later.

    Both of these devastating incidents happened on the A65 in the Craven area within a few hours of each other. I am appealing to anyone who was travelling on the A65 on Saturday to get in touch."
