On Saturday 3 November a wallet was stolen from the changing rooms at Poppleton Community Centre.
On Wednesday 8 November a man was found inside the changing rooms at York Sports Club looking for items to steal.
During April and May a further eight similar reports were received with wallets, phones, cash and bank cards targeted.
A suspect has been arrested and released under investigation for those offences and officers are now working to establish if the burglaries are linked.

As people around the country get ready this weekend to remember those who lost their life in conflict, a number of displays have been created, including this one at Hull Minster.
"Coming Home - A remembrance installation" was created by Martin Waters.
The artist says he wanted to create something large enough to describe the immense empathy people have towards those killed in, or as a result of war and conflict
Thousands of poppies were collected from 2011 to 2015 for the installation.

The changes, at Almondbury and Holmfirth libraries, have been described as "a good thing" by Kirklees Council that will help evolve the traditional service into a more community-based hub for the 21st century.
But the council has come under fire for absorbing the existing 130-year-old Almondbury library, on Stocks Walk, into the SureStart Centre off Fairfield Road.

Last month Bingley man Anthony Bull was sent to prison for 16 months by the Recorder of Bradford Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC after he pleaded guilty to a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Bull, of Hollings Court, crashed into a woman's Ford Focus car as he tried to overtake a HGV vehicle on the A65 near Hellifield in North Yorkshire a year ago leaving her with a pelvic injuries.
But after spending three days in jail he was brought back to Bradford Crown Court and given bail with the judge admitting that he was "deeply troubled" by the case.
Today the 62-year-old was back in court where his original sentence was replaced with 12 months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and he was ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work for the community.
Bull was also banned from driving for two years and must take a new test before he can drive again.

The lake, which hosts miniature naval warfare displays, has been without a boathouse after the previous one was demolished by the council earlier this year.
The ageing structure was found to be crumbling and falling into the lake.
Scarborough Borough Council's approved plans for a new structure described as "a simple building with an appearance that reflects that of the other Japanese-themed ones close by."
The history of the oriental park is interesting.
According to the Friends of Peasholme Park, land known as Tuckers Field was purchased by the Borough in 1911, with the intention of constructing a new park around a lake.
Harry Smith, the borough engineer, had the idea of setting out the new gardens in a Japanese style.
This was considered innovative thinking at the time and his ideas led to the creation of the park's Oriental style.
A man was found dying by his son after collapsing while he searched for a stolen motorbike in East Ardsley near Leeds.
The 59-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by his 31-year-old son and paramedics to revive him.
Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious but his son's bike, a yellow Honda, still hasn't been found after the incident last night.

First the Friends of Otley Lido need to raise £50,000 for a feasibility study to transform the Leeds City Council-owned site.
The Community Interest Company was set up after the council asked for expressions of interest in the site in Wharfemeadows Park.
It was back in 1924 when Otley outdoor pool first opened its doors but by 1993 it had fallen into disrepair and closed.
Three wards have been affected after an outbreak of norovirus at York Hospital.
Visitors to the hospital have been asked to help stop the spread by not visiting if they have nausea, diarrhoea or vomiting.
