    Police want to speak to him in connection with an attack on another man.

    The victim was kicked to the ground before the barriers at the station by another man at about 22:20 on 13 December.

    He suffered a fracture to his arm.

    The suspect then boarded a train heading towards Manchester.

    A new £2m project will improve sections of a historic canal in North Yorkshire.

    It's hoped the improvements, to a stretch of the 200-year-old Leeds and Liverpool Canal, will attract more visitors.

    The plans include upgrading the footpath to make it easier for people to access the area.

    Work is due to start later this year on stretches from Skipton to Gargrave and from Bradley to Kildwick.

    Yorkshire's first woman MP is going to be honoured with a blue plaque in Leeds today.

    Miner's daughter Alice Bacon, who was born in Normanton near Wakefield and elected as a Labour MP in 1945, is due to be recognised at lunchtime.

    A blue plaque commemorating the high-profile Home Office minister, who oversaw the abolition of the death penalty, will be unveiled at the Corn Exchange in Leeds.

    Leeds' second woman MP Rachel Reeves has written a biography of Baroness Bacon, she said: "She was a remarkable woman, when she was born women didn't even have the vote, no one could possibly have imagined the life she was going to have."

    York is "in shock" over a spate of homeless deaths, the prime minister was told today.

    During Prime Minister's Questions, the Labour MP for York Central said 11 homeless people died last year in the area.

    Rachael Maskell said: "We know substance misuse services have been cut, we know social housing hasn't been built in our city and we know mental health services are desperately underfunded and understaffed."

    She said the prime minister had "failed" and asked what she was going to do differently to prevent homeless people dying this year.

    Theresa May responded by saying: "Every death of someone while homeless or sleeping rough on our streets is one too many."

    Children under the age of 10 are committing crimes that would carry a jail sentence, Wakefield police have warned.

    Insp Paul Sullivan said police were struggling to cope with a "new and emerging" problem of offending among young "out of control" children, with cases ranging from criminal damage to assault.

    Youngsters under the age of 10 are under the age of criminal responsibility in England and Wales.

    Speaking at a Wakefield Council scrutiny committee meeting, he said: "This isn't just a bit of inappropriate language, or not doing what they're told, we're talking about destroying things, and being wild and out of control."

    Insp Sullivan warned that the problem was linked to the rising number of pupil exclusions from schools.

    Last year, 83 pupils from Wakefield schools were expelled, nearly treble the number that were expelled in 2009/10.

    Insp Sullivan added: "We talk about 83 children who've been permanently excluded, but where are they? Who's managing them now?"

    An East Yorkshire coaching inn, which is almost 200 years old, could be demolished to make way for homes.

    The Sun inn in the village of Skirlaugh, in Holderness, could be knocked down to make way for "five dwellings".

    A planning application has been submitted and the proposal is due to be discussed at a meeting of Skirlaugh Parish Council tonight.

    A car crashed off a North Yorkshire road and into a ditch, landing on its roof - but "unbelievably" there were no injuries.

    Police say that "thankfully" no-one was hurt when the vehicle went off the road on the outskirts of York and flipped over.

    North Yorkshire Police said a recovery team were on the way to the scene of the crash near where the B1224 meets the York Outer Ring Road.

    A woman has admitted faking an illness to con a a cancer charity out of more than £90,000.

    Patricia Robertshaw, 42, worked as a partnership and events manager at Yorkshire Cancer Research in Harrogate.

    She pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud and one of forgery at York Crown Court.

    Robertshaw, of Gisburn Road in Barrowford, Lancashire, was warned that she could be jailed when she is sentenced next month.

    A Sheffield councillor, who was suspended by the city's Labour group after a photo of a topless woman was sent to a community mums' group on WhatsApp, has been reinstated.

    Mohammad Maroof posted the image on a Mums United WhatsApp group while group founder Sahira Irshad presented a petition to the council on knife crime.

    Mr Maroof said he was "very embarrassed" and apologised for what he described was an "honest mistake".

    He had been suspended since early December but has now been reinstated following an internal investigation.

    Three 1970s student accommodation blocks are to be knocked down in York to make way for a teaching block and 250-seat auditorium.

    The new auditorium is part of plans to build a creative centre at York St John University.

    The original plans, external have been changed following a public consultation in which some residents raised concerns about the design, fearing it might block views of York Minster from their home.

    A statement from the university says: “This will be more than just a university facility, it will house events, exhibitions, film, musical and theatrical performances.”

    The university says it does not intend to run the auditorium as an income-generating business.

    Demolition work will start in the summer and the new 4,000 sq m centre is due to be completed in spring 2021.

    New no waiting restrictions are to be enforced on a road used by lorries on a Barnsley industrial estate, after an objection to the plan was overruled.

    Barnsley Council applied for a traffic regulation order for Great Cliffe Road at Dodworth in Barnsley to prevent cars parking at the roadside.

    This resulted in an objection, meaning the proposal had to be reviewed and then go before the council's ruling cabinet.

    Councillors were told that parking on the street was causing difficulties for lorries and the situation could get worse as the area was expected to develop further for business use.

    They agreed to overrule the objection, meaning steps can now be taken to introduce the traffic regulation order which will keep the highway clear of parked vehicles.

    The site is part of the former Dodworth Colliery, an area which has been increasingly used for new industries.
