East Riding councillors unanimously voted in favour of the £11m flood defence scheme yesterday, despite objections from residents.

They are concerned it will "ruin the view" and say the authority should be protecting homes elsewhere.

Under the plans, a 1.5 metre wall will run along Cliff Road.

It will help protect more than 4,000 homes from flooding during the next 50 years, as well as key routes into Hull such as the railway and the A63.

Several residents living in Cliff Road, who did not want to be named, said the council would be better off spending the money elsewhere.
