    A man is wanted by police in Leeds in connection with an historic sexual offence.

    The alleged offence was carried out by a man known as "Mick" against a male teenager in the summer of 1998.

    He is said to lived in Wortley in Leeds and is described as being white, in his mid-thirties at the time of the incident and of medium build.

    He is also described as being about 5ft 7ins tall, clean shaven and he had a West Yorkshire accent.

    Police are keen to hear from anyone with information.

    Bradford-based supermarket giant Morrisons is facing legal action by women who work in its stores and warehouses.

    The women, both current and former employees, say they are not paid the same as male workers who are doing comparable jobs.

    Lawyers say that if the legal challenge is successful, thousands of women could receive back pay averaging £15,000.

    But Morrisons said it believed the number of claimants was far smaller and that it would be contesting the case.

    West Yorkshire-based rival Asda has suffered a series of setbacks in its own continuing legal dispute with staff over equal pay.

    A memorial tree planted by a resident of a North Yorkshire village in memory of their son has been chopped down.

    The walnut tree, which was planted in the garden of a home in Middleton Tyas, Richmondshire, had stood for more than 20 years.

    North Yorkshire Police say the tree, which "had great sentimental value," was chopped down overnight between 10 and 11 February.

    Officers are appealing for any information about the incident, which happened at a property just off Middleton Tyas Lane.

    Police have thanked local residents in Hull for supporting their search for missing student Libby Squire, saying: "Everyone wants to know where Libby is."

    Ms Squire, 21, disappeared after going for a night out with friends in Hull two weeks ago today.

    Police say they're working "around the clock" to try and find her.

    At a media briefing today, the force said so far "wide-ranging" searches have taken place involving underwater teams, dog handling units and helicopters.

    The support from the public and businesses in Hull has been "overwhelming", police said.

    Det Supt Martin Smalley said: "My thanks go out to everyone who has been involved and who has provided help or assistance.

    "When and where we are able to, we will provide updates as we fully understand this case has captured the hearts of people not just in the city of Hull, but across the country. Everyone wants to know where Libby is."

    Motorists are being warned about speeding in part of Beverley after several grazing cows were killed or seriously injured.

    An MP has told drivers to watch their speed on The Westwood, where there is "open grazing land for cattle, completely unfenced, so cattle can wander at will, including over the roads".

    Graham Stuart, the Conservative MP for Beverley and Holderness, issued the warning after hearing concerns from the Pasture Masters, who look after the site where a number of cows have been killed "over the years".

    Mr Stuart said: "Very sadly, a number of cattle have been killed or seriously injured as a result of being hit by cars and, potentially, car drivers and passengers are at risk of injury or even death if they are involved in a collision with cattle."

    The Pasture Masters plan to ask the local council to reduce the speed limit in the area from 40mph to 30mph.

    Almost 50 rare and collectible comic books have been stolen in a house burglary in Halifax.

    Three suspects forced entry into a property on Rushton Hill Close at about 23:30 on Tuesday.

    The stolen items date back to the 1950s and 1960s.

    It is believed the suspects, who all fled the scene, were dressed in black and were all wearing balaclavas.

    Hull KR say they are "pleased" to be a founding member of a pioneering learning disability rugby league competition.

    Yesterday it was announced that Super League had become the first professional sports brand to give its name to such a competition.

    There are 12 teams involved, including Castleford Tigers, Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants, Wakefield Trinity and York City Knights:

    Missing Hull University student Libby Squire "may have come to some harm", police have said as they released new images of clothes similar to ones the 21-year-old was wearing on the night she disappeared.

    Ms Squire vanished following a night out in Hull on 31 January.

    Det Supt Martin Smalley said: "While we do continue to be hopeful and we will always keep an open mind, Libby has been missing for 14 days now and we sadly have to consider she may have come to some harm.

    "We are continuing to support Libby’s family through this incredibly difficult and distressing time.

    "They are understandably distraught not knowing where their daughter and loved one is, and we will endeavour to give them the answers they desperately need."

    Humberside Police have now recreated the outfit Ms Squire was wearing when she was last seen, consisting of a black denim skirt and faux leather jacket with a pair of distinctive trainers:

    Police officers are appealing for information after a 23-year-old man was punched unconscious following an "unprovoked" attack in Sheffield.

    The victim was walking along Crookes Road with his girlfriend in the early hours of last Thursday when a man got out of a "white sporty 4x4" car and exchanged words with the couple.

    He then punched the man in the face.

    The suspect is described as mixed race, in his late 20s to early 30s and he spoke with a London accent, according to police.

    It's claimed that council workers have removed a bench which had been placed on a Hull street for pensioners to sit on while waiting for a bus.

    Chris Dias paid for the bench, at the corner of Westbourne Avenue and Chanterlands Avenue, and got a local graffiti artist to decorate it.

    Mr Dias says it was in place for three or four days before council workers removed it and said they'd claimed it could cause anti-social behaviour.

    Hull City Council has been asked for comment.

    A teenager who died in a fatal crash in Leeds has been named by police as 17-year-old Mason Foster.

    Mason, from Morley, was killed when the Aprilia 125 motorcycle he was riding collided with a Audi Q7 and a grey Ford Kuga outside a Shell petrol station on Bruntcliffe Road.

    He was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash at 09:00 on Monday 11 February.

    West Yorkshire Police want to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at the time or who has dashcam footage.

    Police officers in Halifax are asking for help in finding an empty cash box which is believed to have been taken in a robbery last month.

    The cash box, similar to the one pictured above, was taken in a robbery from NatWest bank in Halifax.

    It's thought the box has been dumped between Halifax and Ripponden.

    Four men are due to appear in court next month charged with robbery, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    Senior councillors in York will be asked to approve a £7m increase in the cost of renovating of one of the city's historic buildings later.

    The 15th Century Guildhall is used for full council meetings, but is suffering from serious subsidence and needs major repair work.

    Initial costs had been estimated at £13m, but that has now risen to £20m.

    Residents in a block of flats in Bradford have been told to leave after "serious fire deficiencies" were detected by the fire service.

    People living at Appleton Point on Hamm Strasse have been a 24-hour-notice to vacate the premises.

    The fire service has reported breaches in parts of the building and a "lack of an appropriate fire warning system".

    Resident Sankit Nagre said: "People are confused and scared, they are just not sure where they are going to sleep tonight”.

    "I’m angry because the fire service have been looking at this building for months but have given us less than twenty four hours notice to get out."

    Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw said: “We understand how distressing this must be for the residents and what a terrible situation they have been put in through no fault of their own.

    "The safety of the residents is the highest priority."

    Alternative accommodation is being provided by Bradford Council, say the fire service.

    A group of children, some as young as 12-years-old, have smashed windows on two buses in an East Yorkshire village.

    The boys, believed to be 12 or 13 and dressed in black clothing, damaged the vehicles as they passed along Ark Royal in Bilton last night.

    Humberside Police are looking for four or five boys, who targeted buses at about 19:30 and again at 20:00 before fleeing the scene.

    Ch Insp Paul Butler: "If this group think it’s a game to throw stones and other things at buses or any moving vehicle then they’ve got it wrong."

    Police are appealing for help in finding a man who was seen performing a sex act on himself at a park in Scarborough.

    Police say the man, described as thin and with a brown goatee beard, was "reported to be touching himself inappropriately" at Peasholm Park.

    North Yorkshire Police want to hear from any witnesses to the "disturbing incident" which happened between 14:00 and 14:20 on Wednesday 23 January.
