    Fire crews worked hard throughout the night to tackle the blaze on Marsden Moor last night.

    Part of the lower deck of the Tinsley viaduct has been closed after a lorry shed its load.

    The A631, which runs underneath the M1, has been shut northbound.

    The road is expected to be closed for part of rush hour, reopening at about 17:15.

    Former Labour leader and Doncaster North MP Ed Millband says Chris Williamson is bringing the Labour party into disrepute over anti-semitism.

    Labour has confirmed the Labour MP is to be investigated for remarks about the party's handling of anti-Semitism but will not be suspended.

    Chris Williamson claimed at a Sheffield Momentum meeting Labour had "given too much ground" in the face of criticism over the issue, remarks which he now says he "deeply regrets".

    In a Tweet, Mr Miliband says disciplinary action, "not simply an apology", is required.

    Nine men who raped and abused two teenage girls who were living in a children's home have been jailed.

    The girls were aged 14 when the men first began to use drink, drugs and violence to groom and sexually exploit them.

    Bradford Crown Court heard the abuse started after the girls moved into the home in 2008.

    The nine were convicted of 22 offences including rape and inciting child prostitution.

    A tenth defendant was cleared of rape.

    The four official artworks of the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire have been unveiled.

    They've been produced by Yorkshire artist Mackenzie Thorpe and are entitled Yorkshire Coast, Over Moor and Dale, Riding with Grandad and The Boy Without a Bike.

    Mackenzie says “I'm thrilled to be the official artist for the Tour de Yorkshire.

    "The whole county is a never-ending inspiration; the dramatic skies, the dales and the moors are like nowhere I have ever been. "

    Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said: “This stunning collection will promote the beauty of Yorkshire and the spirit of the Tour de Yorkshire to a massive audience.”

    The Tour de Yorkshire was launched in 2015.

    This year's race, the fifth in the series, takes place between 2-5 May.

    The grounds of Howley Hall Golf Club in Morley have been vandalised overnight.

    The damage was caused by a quad bike at about 17:00, the club said.

    Golf professional Ryan Rastall said it was "really disappointing".

    "Two men came in on a quad bike and rode across the green while golfers were playing.

    "Damage of this type will take time to recover and cost the club a significant amount of money."

    Doncaster Council's chief executive is to leave her role in June to move to New Zealand.

    Jo Miller is set to move to become chief executive of Hutt City Council, near Wellington.

    The former deputy chief executive of the Local Government Association took up the role in Doncaster in 2010.

    The council says plans to find Ms Miller's successor are in place.

    Football fans may be charged £10 to park at a new community stadium being built in North Yorkshire.

    Plans for the 8,000-seat stadium in York show that parking for fans driving to a match will be via a "Park&Ride" service and, on match days, all free parking at the neighbouring Vangarde Shopping Park will be limited to two hours.

    Conservative councillor Peter Dew said people will be encouraged to use public transport to get to matches and new barriers and automatic number plate recognition cameras will be installed a the Park&Ride site.

    He added: "The fee for parking without using the bus will be £10, this is to encourage people not only to use the Park&Ride bus to get into York, but also to use it to get from the city to the stadium and back on match days."

    A spokesman for York City Football Club said: "We hope City of York Council will take into account the needs of York City supporters and York City Knights supporters and help us provide an affordable match day experience."

    It was revealed last week that the stadium will not be ready for the start of York City's 2019-20 campaign or for any of the York City Knights rugby league matches this season.

    The stadium was due to open in July, but City of York Council has yet to give a new date.

    The number of people injured in shootings in South Yorkshire has quadrupled in the space of a year, new statistics show.

    The latest police figures show 20 people have been injured and incidents involving guns being fired have almost doubled in the last year.

    The gun crime problem is at its worst in Sheffield, which accounted for 15 of the 20 people hurt in firearms incidents, with four in Rotherham and one in Doncaster.

    Police think many of the incidents can be put down to "criminal vendettas".

  14. Moorland blaze: 'Highest flame fronts we've ever seen'published at 13:20 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2019

    Firefighters on Marsden Moor tackled flames which were two metres high last night in what the fire service says one of the biggest moorland blazes the county has ever seen.

    Crews arrived at about 20:00, where there about four sq km of moorland were already on fire.

    By 03:00 the fire had died down, but teams will remain at the scene for the majority of today to monitor the situation.

    Station Manager Adam Greenwood said: "It was one of the of the highest flame fronts we have seen with flames of up to two metres high and it was moving fast across the moorland.

    "The quick initial fire attack by firefighters did help to bring the fire under control, despite the size and ferocity of the flames."

    The Duke of York has thanked fire crews and police officers for their work throughout the night to control a blaze which took hold of Marsden moor.

    Crews remain at the scene to ensure it does not reignite.

    Two hospitals in North Yorkshire have been forced to close wards because of an outbreak of norovirus.

    People are being asked not to visit York or Scarborough hospitals if they feel sick or have diarrhoea.

    The trust which runs both hospitals says: "Once again we have wards closed due to norovirus at York and Scarborough hospitals.

    "Please don't visit the hospital if you feel sick or have diarrhoea.

    "Washing your hands frequently with soap and water is the best way to stop it spreading - alcohol hand gels don't kill norovirus."

    A Sheffield man has been found with serious injuries after being shot in the shoulder with a shotgun, police say.

    Police officers were called to a house on Fox Hill Road in Foxhill at about 23:00 last night.

    The 55-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries where we remains.

    His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

    A cat has been blamed for starting a kitchen fire which led to a small explosion in Sheffield.

    The animal is said to have knocked the kitchen hob, setting fire to items on top of it including an aerosol can.

    The fire, at a house on Ecclesfield Road in Shiregreen, started at about 05:15 and resulted in a small explosion which blew the kitchen window out.

    Nobody was injured and the fire was quickly put out by firefighters.

    Police want to identify him after a teenager was injured as a man attempted to rob her on her way to school in Leeds.

    The 15-year-old girl was walking across waste ground between Torre Drive and Torre Close at about 08:10 on 15 February.

    A man approached her carrying a knife and a struggle ensued, which resulted in the victim needing hospital treatment.

    The suspect is said to be about 22 or 23 and spoke with a strong Yorkshire accent.

    He was wearing a Gym King branded jacket, black Nike gloves and a white t-shirt.

    Police are urging anyone with any information to get in touch.
