  7. Ambulance response time concerns in Yorkshire rural areaspublished at 08:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2019

Those in some rural communities are waiting more than 20 minutes, on average, for help for cardiac arrests, seizures and life-threatening injuries.

A response is meant to arrive within an average of six to eight minutes, depending on where you live.

The average response time to places like West Yorkshire's Denby Dale and Skelmanthorpe, for example, is 12 minutes, 21 seconds.

In Bramham and Boston Spa it's more than 11 minutes.

In the centre of Leeds, and in some areas of York and Doncaster, it's as little as five.

The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives says the levels of demand and the remoteness are a challenge for crews, but that staff are working flat out to get to patients as soon as possible.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick has said there is "obviously" a link between violent crime and falling police numbers.

But Prime Minister Theresa May has insisted there is "no direct correlation".

Senior officers from the Metropolitan Police, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, West Midlands and South Wales, will also attend the meeting.

  13. Police helicopter officer avoids sack over sex filmspublished at 07:01 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2019

A police officer who failed to report the filming of a couple having sex in their garden from a police helicopter has been given a final written warning.

    Matthew LucasImage source, PA

Matthew Lucas, 44, was on board South Yorkshire Police's aircraft when the 12-minute footage was captured in 2008.

He demonstrated a "passive awareness" to the incident and failed to report it, a misconduct hearing was told.

A panel ruled his failure amounted to gross misconduct and his position was "hanging by a thread".

The four-day misconduct hearing in Sheffield was told Mr Lucas did not fly the helicopter and may not have been involved in the actual recording on 28 July.

But his colleague Adrian Pogmore, who was also onboard the aircraft, made the decision to film the couple having sex.

Mr Lucas was also cleared of two other separate misconducts relating to recordings from the aircraft, one of a couple sitting in a naturist campsite in 2008 and the other of people sunbathing naked in 2012.

His colleague Lee Walls, 49, from Aston, Sheffield, was also cleared of misconduct over another incident in 2007 when he was onboard the helicopter while a naked woman was caught sunbathing on camera, alongside her two teenage daughters, who were in bikinis.

The pair were acquitted of misconduct in a public office by a jury following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court in August 2017.

Mr Pogmore, who was involved in all four incidents, was jailed for a year after he pleaded guilty to four counts of the same charge before the trial.

The All Party Parliamentary Group for ADHD say compulsory testing should also be introduced for anyone sent to jail.

It's thought a third of those in prison at any one time have the condition, but many are undiagnosed.

Leeds MP, Alex Sobel, said early diagnosis was key to stopping people reoffending.

Mr Sobel, Labour MP for Leeds North West and the vice chair of the group, said teenagers arrested for offences such as "fighting, bike theft and shoplifting" should be screened.

"The earlier we pick it up the better it is for the individual, the taxpayers and the ability for them not to move on into the criminal justice system," he said.

Researchers have previously found people with the condition were more likely to commit crime.
