Scarborough Borough Council says using tracking data in bin lorries showed 94.5% of the more than 1,600 claims were not genuine misses.

Instead bins may not have been put out correctly, or at all, the council says.

In total, 91 bin collections were missed from the 2,950,480 collections made in 2018 across the borough, that's a rate of 3.1 missed for every 100,000 collections.

A council spokesman said: "Missed bins reported to the council are very different to bins that have actually been missed by our collection crews.

"Analysis from 2018, following the implementation of our InCab system for all refuse and recycling collection services, indicates of the 1,682 reported missed bins, 1,591 had been reported by our collection crews as not being able to be collected, due to user error such as contamination or not being presented."

The possible redundancies of 15 teachers as well as concerns about poor financial management will be discussed at a meeting tonight, the NEU says.

The threat of redundancies comes after the closure of the school's sixth form, acting headteacher Deborah Banks has told the BBC.

"We are still in the consultation process and at this stage do not know if compulsory redundancies will be needed", Ms Banks said.

"We feel disappointed that the NEU are using strike action as a first rather than a last resort and we will continue to reach out to them to try to resolve this matter."

Officials say the fleet will be the biggest outside of the capital.

This is York's second fleet of electric buses. Twelve electric single decker buses have been operating on two park-and-ride sites in the city for the last five years.

Bilberry, which flowers in spring before heathers and other moorland plants, is a vital food source for the declining bumblebee

Tender young bilberry plants are also a favourite of grazing animals such as deer and sheep, stunting the bushes' growth and leading to a lack of mature plants the threatened bee favours:
