Residents at Elm Tree House, on Ridgeway Road, are now calling on Sheffield Council to put in more safety measures.

Mavis Mclennen, who has lived there for five years, said she was worried about issues including a gate which has been repeatedly broken, allowing youngsters to get in to smoke and drink.

She said: "We're all over 60-years-old so we feel very threatened. The door is off its hinges because they've smashed it in. We're fed up of it."

Ms Mclennen added that she has spoken to several people at the council over the past year, and got the area officer involved, but nothing had been done.

Councillor Jim Steinke, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and community safety, said: "We have repaired the doors and made them safe after reports of vandalism.

"The residents here deserve to feel safe and to live in a pleasant environment so we are looking at the possibility of installing a door-entry system for them as well."

Changes have included establishing a police prisons team with expert understanding of the type of crimes which occur in and around prisons.
