Increased patrols have been carried out this morning in the area around Royds School in Oulton after fears were voiced on social media about graffiti found in a nearby park.

The message made reference to a threat to the school and today's date, police say.

Increased police patrols were being carried out "solely because of the level of public concern generated by social media, not because of any information suggesting any increased threat," she added.

The conference will feature writers, artists and musicians inspired by nature and advocates for wildlife, including Chris Packham, presenter of BBC Springwatch.

But for the project to be approved the street artist ATM, who specialises in huge paintings of endangered specie, like the thrush pictured below, needs to find a big blank wall.

Organiser Dr Amy-Jane Beer says what's needed is: "A bridge, warehouse, or something similar, which could provide a highly visible platform for the work."

Until recently, the subject of the mural, the iridescent tansy beetle, faced extinction in the UK and York's flood-prone river banks were the only place in the country the species was known to survive.

In 2015, a breeding programme was set up for the tansy, which only eats a specific kind of plant and has an unfortunate habit of eating its own eggs.
