East Riding Council said the woman, who has not been named, posted on Facebook Marketplace asking for her garden shed to be dismantled and taken away along with other waste.

She paid an unknown man £90 to do the job but the waste was later found dumped just off the A165 between Skirlaugh and Coniston on 9 April.

An council investigation found evidence linking the rubbish to the woman.

She was fined £300, reduced to £200 for early repayment, after admitting failing in her duty of care by not checking she was using an authorised waste carrier, failing to ask for a receipt and for not taking the man’s details.

    Quote Message

“The responsibility lies with the resident to make the necessary checks to ensure their waste will be disposed of correctly and legally. To help prevent fly-tipping, residents should use properly registered waste carriers, get a receipt and take the person’s details.”
