    Ideal Standard is planning to close its factory in Hull with the loss of 85 jobs.

    The firm said it intends to move production of its baths to a factory in Egypt, but would maintain a presence in the city.

    Dave Oglesby, from the GMB union, said the closure would affect other business and the wider community.

    He said: "Ideal Standard's loyal staff have worked hard to help build the company up. Now Ideal Standard are happy to send their jobs down the plughole."

    A spokesperson for Ideal Standard said: "The decision to start this process was not taken lightly and is the result of a continuous evaluation of our global manufacturing footprint to ensure we operate as efficiently as possible."

    He added that "key business functions such as customer service will remain in the city".

    A man was left with cuts to his face after being assaulted in the centre of York, police say.

    The victim was attacked by another man on the balcony of a property on Walmgate at about 23:00 last Friday.

    He had to be taken to hospital where he was later discharged after receiving medical treatment.

    Police are now appealing for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

    The subscription is £1 a month for the first three months, then £2 a week after that.

    Developers, designers and technology enthusiasts are being challenged to come up with ideas to help support people living with dementia.

    It's part of the Humber Care Tech Challenge and the winners will get support from mentors at Amazon, the University of Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    Their ideas could be developed into a commercial product to help people with dementia.

    An event is being held at the university today to look at the challenges faced by people living with dementia ahead of the competition next month.

    The incident happened at about 10:40 on the eastbound carriageway between Junctions 22 and 23 near Huddersfield.

    West Yorkshire police said a 51-year-old woman from the Humberside area was killed in the crash.

    A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    The road is expected to remain closed for some time.

    Sheffield Wednesday striker Fernando Forestieri's appeal against a Football Association charge of using racist language has been rejected.

    The FA's independent regulatory commission found him guilty of using racist language towards Mansfield Town's Krystian Pearce in July.

    In March, the 29-year-old was acquitted of racially aggravated harassment and using threatening words or behaviour.

    The forward will begin a six-game ban with immediate effect.

    He was also fined £25,000, warned about his future conduct and ordered to attend face-to-face FA education.

    A motorcyclist has died in hospital more than a week after being involved in an accident in County Durham.

    Janine Bleu was injured near Bowlees Farm, at Newbiggin, in Teesdale on the last August Bank Holiday Monday.

    Police say the 55-year-old, from York, lost control on a bend and fell off her bike before colliding with a car and a motorcycle going the other way.

    A police investigation is on-going.

    PC Damien Stevens, of Durham Constabulary’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.

    “We would like to renew appeal for any witnesses to the collision to come forward with information as soon as possible."

    It's reported that a person went into a property on Finkle Street, Thorne, at about 04:00 on 21 June.

    The victim reported that their wallet and bank card had been taken.

    The bank card was then used at 04:14 and 04:17 at shops on Thorne Road, with £500 being taken from a cash machine.

    Police are hoping to speak to the man pictured as they believe he could help them with their inquiries.

    A Hull MP says her school uniform campaign has been a success after it was agreed that national guidance would be amended.

    Emma Hardy, Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle, encouraged the recycling of old and unwanted school uniform after hearing that parents were having to go hungry to cover the cost of new uniform.

    She said the RE:uniform scheme had provided more than 500 Hull families with clothing for the new school year.

    The Labour politician yesterday presented her findings on the "ruthless" school policy of requiring branded uniform to Lord Agnew and the Education Select Committee.

    She said: "I am delighted that Lord Agnew has agreed to amend national guidance so that families may be better able to shop around and buy more affordable, unbranded uniform for their children

    “This is a great victory for all families in my home town of Hull and for all families across the UK," she added.
