Ideal Standard is planning to close its factory in Hull with the loss of 85 jobs.
The firm said it intends to move production of its baths to a factory in Egypt, but would maintain a presence in the city.
Dave Oglesby, from the GMB union, said the closure would affect other business and the wider community.
He said: "Ideal Standard's loyal staff have worked hard to help build the company up. Now Ideal Standard are happy to send their jobs down the plughole."
A spokesperson for Ideal Standard said: "The decision to start this process was not taken lightly and is the result of a continuous evaluation of our global manufacturing footprint to ensure we operate as efficiently as possible."
He added that "key business functions such as customer service will remain in the city".
