    A 44-year-old man has been charged with the murder and kidnap of a woman whose body was found in a wooded area of North Yorkshire.

    Natalie Harker, 30, of Colburn, was found dead in Brough with St Giles, near Catterick, on 9 October.

    The man has been remanded in custody to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

    Police say the investigation into Ms Harker's death is continuing and detectives are appealing for people to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation, especially if they knew her in recent years.

    Rail passengers are being warned to expect delays for the rest of the day following a train fire at Doncaster station.

    The fire broke out at about 13.15 underneath a first class carriage on the CrossCountry service from Reading to Newcastle.

    CrossCountry said all passengers were safely evacuated before the emergency services arrived to put out the fire.

    It said the incident has been reported to the Rail Accident Investigation Board.

    A spokesman said: "Train services are resuming at Doncaster, although delays could be expected for the remainder the of today."

    He claims he kissed her on the lips to "boost her confidence" after he heard a male passenger call her overweight.

    A woman who was catapulted from a fairground ride has said she is "lucky to be alive" and wants the attraction to be "scrapped".

    Jade Harrison, 21, suffered a broken jaw and facial injuries when she fell from the Airmaxx 360 ride at Hull Fair on 7 October.

    She said she was angry after being "flown through the air like a ragdoll" yet fortunate she was not paralysed.

    "I feel lucky to be alive, or to have come away from this without a brain or spinal injury which would have left me paralysed for life, so I do feel lucky in a way," she said.

    "I think the ride should be scrapped, and if that happens then at least I've achieved something."

    Hull City Council and the Showman's Guild previously said they were fully cooperating with an investigation led by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

    Crews were called to the fire at about 13:30 today following reports of a fire underneath a CrossCountry train in the station.

    Nobody is believed to have been injured.

    CrossCountry says northbound services won't be calling at Doncaster "until further notice" following the blaze.

    Police are appealing for information after a man who was found with serious injuries in Whitby later died in hospital.

    The man, in his 40s, was found at the bottom of a staircase at the Esplanade in Whitby on Sunday 29 September with serious head injuries.

    He was taken to hospital but died on Friday.

    A man in his 40s has previously been arrested and released on bail in connection with the incident, North Yorkshire Police said.

    Detectives say they need to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was in the area between 19:00 and 22:30 on 29 September.

    Train operator Northern, which runs services across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, has been asked by the government to submit proposals suggesting how it can improve its service for passengers, or it faces being removed from the franchise.

    During a Transport Committee session, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said he had issued a “request for proposals” as Northern's service had been poor.

    In a statement on Friday, Transport for the North said it believed the franchise should be taken into public hands, via what’s known as an Operator of Last Resort (OLR).

    The OLR is, on behalf of the government, currently in charge of LNER, the East Coast Mainline intercity franchise.

    Mr Shapps told MPs he has asked train operator Arriva and the OLR for a “list of proposals” because the franchise “cannot continue delivering in the current delivery method".

    Hundreds of workers have marched through the streets of Leeds from City Square to Asda's headquarters to protest against a new contract.

    The GMB union says Asda workers have been told to sign new contracts which it claims will see them lose paid breaks and forced to work bank holidays, or be sacked next month.

    Many of the protesters waved flags and blew horns as they made their way along the city centre route while a band beat drums throughout the journey.

    Police accompanied the protesters and stopped traffic on the busy city centre roads.

    When the crowd reached Asda's headquarters, a petition against the move signed by about 23,000 people was passed in a shopping trolley to a member of staff at the firm's HQ.

    Asda said the contract at the centre of the row was about increasing the take-home pay of more than 100,000 employees through an investment of more than £80m and ensuring everyone doing the same job is on the same terms and conditions.

    Operation Safe Pass has been launched by Humberside Police and Hull City Council to remind drivers to leave at least 1.5m between their vehicle and the cyclist.

    A team of cyclists will use helmet-mounted cameras to catch motorists who get too close for comfort. They will then be pulled over further along the road and spoken to about their driving.

    Cyclists are also being asked to stay at least 0.75m from the kerb to make them more visible.

    The council said a similar scheme run by West Midlands Police has seen "a noticeable drop in cycle casualties".

    About 77,000 people in Yorkshire's former coalfield communities are on out-of-work benefits, which amounts to about 10% of adults of working age in those areas, the report adds.
