Money which has been donated to help people in South Yorkshire who've been affected by the floods will soon be going out to those in need.

The South Yorkshire Community Foundation has collected more than £250,000 so far and has now gone live to receive applications:

Specialist police officers are continuing to look after flood-hit communities in South Yorkshire where homes have been evacuated.

Officers from the off-road bike team are focusing "reassurance patrols" on places like Fishlake and Bentley.

These more remote areas have some evacuated houses, meaning the police are keeping an eye out to stop criminals taking advantage.

A community centre which is involved in collecting items to help flood victims in Doncaster has been broken into.

The Moorends Miners Welfare and Community Development Centre was broken into just before midnight last night, with a door panel being damaged but nothing being stolen, police say.

The centre is being used to store food and water which is then being handed out to families in need in nearby Fishlake. The offender fled when the alarm activated.

All homes in Fishlake will be "clear of water by Sunday", according to an Environment Agency expert.

John Curtin, the Environment Agency’s director of flood risk management, said "intense pumping efforts" have helped to significantly clear the South Yorkshire village of water.

He also told a news conference that he's “alarmed” by the prospect of further flooding across England this winter.

Mr Curtin encouraged people living on or near floodplains to sign up for Environment Agency flood warnings, explaining that only half of people living in these areas have done so.

He explained that because there has been so much rain this autumn, the land has been left so saturated that he is concerned floods are going to “get worse, more frequently, more often”.

The three months from September until now have seen near record levels of rain which has seen 900 properties flooded to date across England.

People living in Doncaster have been temporarily rehomed following flooding.

So far, 16 people have been given accommodation, the council says.

It comes as the council says almost 2,000 people called their emergency helpline in the past week asking for help.

More than 40,000 sandbags have been handed out, with the Army also helping efforts.

An appeal to raise money for those affected by the floods in South Yorkshire has now topped the £250,000 mark.

The South Yorkshire Community Foundation has started to issue initial grants to those whose lives have been affected by the flooding which has hit Doncaster and Sheffield.

This appeal is aimed at helping support families and local residents who have been displaced from their homes and had their property damaged by the severe flood waters.

Ruth Willis, from the foundation, says the response from people putting their hands in their pockets has been overwhelming.

"We originally set a target of £30,000, but we smashed that target before we even started. It's gone crazy," she said.

Staff at a Rotherham sofa shop where tens of thousands of pounds of stock has been damaged in recent floods say they are "totally devastated".

Homeflair at Parkgate was previously hit by flooding in 2007, but has been hit again after heavy rain last week.

Sue Day, who has worked at the shop for nearly 30 years, says this latest flooding has caused serious damage.

"Because it's three-piece sofas, you can't just move them in two minutes. We got a few out of the way but everything was on the ground floor," she said.

"It was total devastation. There's sludge everywhere, there's a terrible smell. You just think, 'Are we going to come back from this?'"

People affected by flooding in South Yorkshire are to get a treat later as 100 meals made in Bradford are to be sent to those worst hit.

Staff from Bradford Council's Youth Service, the Rockwell Community Centre and the Dubrovnik Hotel are working together to provide the meals for flood victims in Doncaster.

The food, paid for by the Dubrovnik and the Yorkshire Curry Club, will be cooked and packed in Bradford today before being sent to Doncaster's Stamford Community Resource Centre tomorrow.

Naz Ali, from Bradford Council, says: "Everyone has seen the terrible pictures of flooding in Doncaster.

"Many of us in Bradford know the impact flooding can have so we really wanted to help.

"It’s fantastic we have council staff and the local community volunteering their time to get the meals cooked and packed. It shows Bradford at its best."

Drivers in South Yorkshire are being reminded not to drive on roads which have been closed due to flooding.

In a tweet, external, Doncaster Council has issued a stark warning to people to think again.

The authority warns: "They're closed for a reason. You could cause more flooding to nearby homes.

"Yes, it's frustrating when roads that appear clear are not re-opened, but once the flood water has gone there are a number of things we need to do to check it's safe," it adds.

"Once we've ensured the route is safe, we reopen the road."

Almost 10,000 new homes could be built on some of the most flood-prone areas of England, a Greenpeace investigation has found.

They include hundreds of new-builds in Sheffield and Doncaster, the towns hit hardest by the latest floods.

The Environment Agency told the BBC that virtually all planning applications last year followed its advice on flood risk.

The Greenpeace study comes as hundreds of flood-hit homes in South Yorkshire are still evacuated.

More than 5,000 homes have been proposed in high-risk zones of Lincolnshire, where roads and thousands of acres of farmland have been flooded in the last few days.

The research also highlighted a 3,100-home "new town" near Stainforth, less than two miles from Fishlake, the village where hundreds of people have been forced from their homes because of flooding.

South Yorkshire's tram train service still isn't running today after the line was flooded last week.

More checks need to be made by Network Rail before services can restart:

A big community clean-up is planned for a Doncaster town tomorrow after it was hit by floods this week.

This weekend, volunteers are being asked to help get people back on their feet by cleaning up the streets and affected houses.

Starting at Town End, people are being asked to bring mops and cleaning products and work their way through the town.

There are several problems on Yorkshire and Lincolnshire's rail services just now due to flooding.

TransPennine Express services are currently suspended between Sheffield and Scunthorpe due to flooding in the Kirk Sandall area, near Doncaster.

Train operator Northern is also unable to run services between Doncaster and Goole due to the Kirk Sandall flooding.

Northern trains between Doncaster and Scunthorpe will run at a reduced speed, not calling at Kirk Sandall.

Passengers needing to stop at Kirk Sandall are being asked to use rail replacement buses between Doncaster and Goole.

Disruption on these routes are expected to continue for the rest of the day, according to National Rail Enquiries, external.

Meanwhile, rail services are also affected between Sheffield and Lincoln Central/Gainsborough Central/Retford/Worksop, and also between Leeds and Lincoln Central.

This is due to flooding near Kiveton Park, which means trains have to run at a reduced speed, with services delayed up to 30 minutes, cancelled or revised.

The heavy rain last night led to some flooding in East Yorkshire, but it's much better this morning.

It's still absolutely chucking it down, however, and it's a very wet and miserable morning here in South Cave.

Lots of people are out and about, wandering out of their houses, looking at the height of the rivers and becks.

Comparing the photos overnight, it looks like it's calmed down considerably.

However, drivers should be aware that there's certainly still a lot of surface water on the roads.

People have been seen trying to steal the pumps which are being used to move water away from flooded homes in South Yorkshire, the Environment Agency (EA) has said.

In a video this morning, Martin Christmas, from the EA, says the issue "popped up last night".

"Unfortunately, we've started to see some criminal activity trying to steal our pumps and steal our pallet barriers," he said.

"So, a plea to anyone out there in the area who sees anyone suspicious, please get in touch with police.

"We don't want this to hamper our recovery effort in the Doncaster area."

A farmer whose South Yorkshire farm has been inundated by floodwater says it's "soul destroying" to see all the damage.

Greg Mawson has seen the floodwater run out of Fishlake and into Bay Villa Farm, with thousands of tonnes of straw being lost.

"When you see all your hard work just being completely ruined within a week, it's soul destroying," he said.

"You spend so much time and effort making everything as good as you can make it, and something like this just destroys it.

"We will have lost thousands of tonnes of straw because of this flooding.

"In the yard we have anywhere from one to two feet of water. The further down the yard you go it can be up to nine feet deep."
