Read MoreJames McDonald, from Doncaster, has used the BBC's Your Questions Answered to ask: “What has to be the majority amount of votes to win a seat?”
In general elections, we use the first-past-the-post voting system whereby the candidate with the most votes in each constituency wins.
This system means there is no “majority amount” of votes a candidate needs to win a seat.
All a candidate needs to be elected is to get more votes than any other candidate in their constituency.
In some constituencies, an MP can be elected by just a few votes.
The most marginal constituency in the 2017 election, for example, was North East Fife which had an SNP majority over the Liberal Democrats of just two votes.
If you’re interested in finding out more, there's more information about about marginal constituencies here and this video explains more about how your vote counts:

One in six adults in Bradford is going without dental care, one of the highest proportions in the country, according to new BBC research.
More than 2 million adults in England are unable to see an NHS dentist, BBC analysis suggests.
They include an estimated 1.45 million who have tried and failed to get an NHS appointment in two years with the rest on waiting lists or put off by cost.
Another 2 million assume they cannot get care where they live, suggesting nearly one in 10 miss out overall.
British Dental Association leader Dave Cottam said there was a "perfect storm" of underfunding, failed contracts and recruitment problems.
"These access problems are no longer affecting a few 'hotspots', but are now the reality for millions across every English region."
NHS England said steps were already being taken to tackle the problems - and urged people to use the NHS website to find local dentists that were accepting patients.

More could have been done to attract visitors from the UK and overseas to Hull during its City of Culture year, according to a new report.
An interim report, released last year, showed Hull attracted over 5m visitors in 2017 but had not done enough to change the way most people view the city.
Now a new report from the Culture, Place and Policy Institute at the University of Hull found that while people from East Yorkshire engaged in the arts programme more money could have been spent on attracting people from other parts of the UK and overseas.
Just 0.98% of visitors were from overseas, something that has been partly blamed on the "secrecy" surrounding the programme of upcoming events.

Shortly afterwards police pursued a blue Honda 4x4 in the Arbourthorne area but it failed to stop and still hasn't been found.
No arrests have been made.

Beverley's Kyle Edmund has said he's "excited" to start working with Argentine tennis coach Franco Davin but hasn't confirmed whether it's a permanent set-up.
British number three Edmund, 24, has been without a coach since September, when Mark Hilton ended their partnership.
Davin has previously helped guide Juan Martin del Potro and Gaston Gaudio to grand slam wins, and more recently coached Grigor Dimitrov from 2015 to 2016.
The pair will train together in Miami after Edmund has played for Great Britain in the Davis Cup.
"It’s exciting and I’m really looking forward to it," said Edmund.
"You never say 'I’m definitely going long term with him' because you've got to see how it goes, so we always have a bit of a trial, but you always look for it to be long term.
"With the experience he brings, and the quality, I’m excited to get going."
