The lorry's crew saw black smoke billowing out of their vehicle last month and found it was caused by a power bank - a battery used to charge other devices.

The occupants of a passing bin-washing van were able to help put the fire out.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council's now asking people to make sure they dispose of batteries properly at household waste recycling sites or supermarket recycling points.

  20. Landmark ruling puts West Yorkshire club 'in jeopardy'published at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

The future of one of West Yorkshire's non-league football clubs is "in jeopardy" after it was issued with a six-figure court order.

Ossett United, based near Wakefield, has been told to pay costs of £135,000 after a judge at a court in Manchester ruled against it in a personal injury claim.

Reece Welsh was awarded just over £19,000 for lost earnings after he broke his ankle in a tackle with Ossett's Sam Akeroyd in April 2015 while playing for Radcliffe Borough.

The club's insurance policy did not protect them from damages or legal fees of a claimant.

Ossett have said selling the Ingfield ground "now looks like the only option" to pay the bill and warns the club's future is "in jeopardy".

Chairman Phil Smith said: "I have had other chairman throughout the league making contact and raising their own concerns.

"They are worried that an immeasurable amount of claims can now be raised from previous incidents at their club resulting in them actually losing their football club. It’s quite a scary situation we are all now in.

"I urge all sports clubs to check their insurance policies immediately, however, that will only protect future events, not the ones in the past like the one that now threatens our club."
