The Duke had been the Royal Patron of the fund, which raises money to pay for cathedral restoration work, for 15 years.

His resignation follows the controversy over Prince Andrew's friendship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In a statement, York Minster Fund said: “Following his decision to step back from public life, and recognising the Fund needs an active patron to champion its work, HRH Prince Andrew has decided to resign from this role.

"The trustees of the fund would like to thank the Duke of York for all his work as Patron over the years.”

A number of other organisations, including Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Huddersfield University, have severed ties with the Queen's son following a BBC interview.

  14. Future of Sheffield Old Town Hall under scrutinypublished at 17:55 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2019

The Grade II-listed Old Town Hall, also known as The Court House, in Castle Street, has been derelict since 1996.

Developers want to convert the former law courts, judges’ offices and 20th Century block into 12 apartments, with the old cells transformed into 12 hotel rooms and an open-air market with 11 stalls.

Planners say the building has been abandoned and neglected by subsequent owners and is a "cause for concern" as it suffers from wet and dry rot.

"Without intervention and a viable future use, it is likely the building will fail further, possibly resulting in the overall loss of some features and structural stability problems," according to a planning document.

But some heritage groups are concerned internal fixtures and fittings will be removed, erasing the history of the building being a courthouse.

The Victorian Society, Friends of the Old Town Hall and Castlegate Preservation Trust say the surviving features are very significant and are concerned there is no plan to re-use or store them.

Councillors are due to discuss the plans on 18 December.

Mr Dyson was last seen at about 23:00 on 17 November walking towards the A6135 Sheffield Road, Hoyland, near Parkside Farm.

He was reported missing by his daughter on 25 November after failing to visit her the previous day.

Mr Dyson is described as being between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall, of slim build, with short grey hair.

He's believed to be wearing a dark, navy blue waterproof Kappa jacket with white stitching detail.

The butterflies will be auctioned off, with money being used by St Luke's to help people like Tracy.
