    Police searching for a missing man have renewed their appeal for help to locate him and his car.

    Andrew Routledge, 39, hasn’t been seen since leaving his home in York on Friday, according to North Yorkshire Police.

    Officers say they're "very concerned" for his welfare and say they think he might be in Scarborough.

    Mr Routledge is described as being of medium build with a tanned complexion, brown greying hair, spectacles and a beard.

    Anyone who sees him, or has information about his whereabouts, is being urged to contact the North Yorkshire force.

    In particular, officers are urging people to look out for his black Fiat Punto, registration YR63 EDP.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of the rape and kidnap of a 24-year-old woman in Leeds.

    The incident took place in Woodhouse Lane (pictured) on 30 November, when a 24-year-old woman was seriously sexually assaulted.

    West Yorkshire Police said a 22-year-old man was arrested in Harehills this morning in connection with the incident.

    The arrested man remains in custody.

  4. York Minster to discuss relationship with Duke of Yorkpublished at 14:23 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2019

    The Duke of York's relationship with York Minster is set to be discussed by trustees this evening.

    It follows the controversy over Prince Andrew's friendship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

    A number of organisations, including Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Huddersfield University, have severed ties with the Queen's son following a BBC interview.

    The Duke is currently Patron of the York Minster Fund, which raises money to pay for cathedral restoration work.

    A man's been killed in a collision between a car and a lorry on the A65 in North Yorkshire.

    It happened near Skipton yesterday at about 17:50 and involved a white lorry and a silver Volkswagen Polo, according to North Yorkshire Police.

    The driver of the Polo died at the scene of the collision, the lorry driver was uninjured.

    The lorry was travelling towards Harrogate and the Polo was traveling in the opposite direction, officers say.

    Anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision, or who witnessed the crash, is being urged to contact police.

    A man has been jailed for five years for stabbing another man to death outside a cinema.

    Fahim Hersi, 23, died in hospital after being stabbed through the heart outside Cineworld at Valley Centertainment in Don Valley, Sheffield, in September 2018.

    Noel Ramsey, 22, of Nottingham Street, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to manslaughter part-way through his trial for murder at Sheffield Crown Court.

    Ramsay (pictured above), who claimed Mr Hersi "ran on to the knife", was sentenced to five years in prison.

    Layton Morris, 22, of Ferrars Road, Tinsley pleaded guilty to assisting an offender and was jailed for six months.

    Police investigating the assault and robbery of an 18-year-old woman in Sheffield have released an e-fit image of a man they want to trace.

    South Yorkshire Police said the incident happened at about 22:00 on 25 November when the teenager was approached by a man in Burngreave Road who asked to borrow her phone.

    When the victim tried to get her phone back, the man punched her in the face, knocking her unconscious.

    The suspect is described as having blonde hair with a scratch on his face. He was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, a navy blue top, a blue jacket with a hood and a grey beanie hat with a red line around it.

    Anyone who recognises the man in the picture above is being asked to contact police.

  8. Woman and child spotted on M62 in West Yorkshirepublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2019

    A woman and a four-year-old child were spotted walking on the M62 motorway in West Yorkshire after dark and during torrential rain last night.

    PC Dave Cant said they were first seen just after 17:00 near junction 26 at Chain Bar.

    The pair, thought to be asylum seekers, were later found at Hartshead Moor Services, after 11 people reported seeing them.

    They'd walked there to find help.

    PC Hart said: "It is thought that the female walked from Chain Bar area on the eastbound carriageway, walking westbound towards traffic in the direction of Hartshead Moor Services.

    "While we were searching the hard shoulder in torrential rain, we received a call from staff at the petrol station at the eastbound services to say a female with a small child had come to them asking for help, asking for water."

    He said the pair were taken to the police station in Halifax where they were looked after, and social services and immigration were alerted.

  9. Flood relief concert helps victim appeal top £500,000published at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2019

    More than £500,000 has been raised to help people affected by flooding in South Yorkshire last month.

    Heavy rain led to flooding across the area at the start of November, with villages in Doncaster being affected.

    Last night a concert, organised by BBC Radio Sheffield in support of the South Yorkshire Community Foundation appeal, took place in Doncaster.

    Local band Bang Bang Romeo (above) and comedian Paul Sinha were among the acts to perform.

    It was announced following the gig that the campaign had reached its £500,000 target.

  10. Public urged to take counter-terrorism training coursepublished at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2019

    People in North Yorkshire are being encouraged to "help protect the UK" by signing up to an online counter-terrorism training course.

    Devised by counter-terrorism officers, the Action Counters Terrorism Awareness course was previously only available to staff working in crowded places like shopping centres and entertainment venues.

    Now anyone who wants to become a "CT Citizen" can learn how to spot the signs of suspicious behaviour, according to North Yorkshire Police.

    Officers say: “The threat level remains at Substantial – meaning an attack is likely - so giving everyone the chance to be extra eyes and ears for police helps to keep communities safe."

    CCTV images of a man police want to speak to in connection with an assault at the weekend have been released in the hope someone can identify him.

    A man was headbutted at Leeds Station at about 02:00 on Saturday morning, suffering a cut to his eye.

    It’s reported there was a verbal altercation before the attack.

    Anyone who recognises the man in the images is being asked to get in touch with British Transport Police.

  12. Jack Sands: Inquest into toddler's sepsis death to startpublished at 11:34 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2019

    An inquest is due to open later into the death of a boy from East Yorkshire who died of sepsis while he was being treated in hospital.

    Jack Sands, from Hook near Goole, was in Leeds General Infirmary where he had had surgery to reshape his skull.

    He deteriorated and died just three days before his second birthday.

    Jack's inquest is set to take place at Wakefield Coroner's Court and is listed for up to two days.

    A group in York which sees dads learning to style their daughters' hair has been praised for bringing families closer together.

    A man has been arrested after an attempted robbery at a bank in Leeds, police say.

    The 21-year-old was arrested on Monday following an appeal for information about the incident at the Yorkshire Bank branch, in Austhorpe Road, Crossgates, on 23 November.

    The man had passed a note to a member of staff making demands for money, but the panic alarm was activated and he left empty handed, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    The arrested man has been released under investigation, says the force.

    Post-mortem examinations have been carried out on the bodies of two men found on a boat on York's River Ouse, police say.

    The bodies of the men, both in their 60s, were discovered on 4 December on a small boat moored at Dame Judi Dench Walk, in the city centre.

    North Yorkshire Police said the cause of their deaths is not yet known and further tests will be carried out.

    The force say they are not yet in a position to release the identity of the men that died.

    Boris Johnson has been in West Yorkshire this morning playing the role of milkman on the final day of campaigning, ahead of Thursday's general election.

    The Prime Minister started his day by helping load milk and orange juice bottles onto a delivery vehicle at Greenside Farm Business Park in Rawdon, West Yorkshire.

    He then travelled to Guiseley where he delivered a crate of items to one house.

    Sheffield United has paid tribute to former player Jim Smith - who has died at the age of 79.

    Sheffield-born Smith was a player on the books with the Blades, the club said, but never made a first team appearance.

    He became a part time player in January 1959 before leaving to join Aldershot, playing hundreds of games for different clubs.

    Smith, known throughout football as the 'Bald Eagle', managed nine different clubs across the leagues.

    Among his career highlights were a League Cup final appearance with Queens Park Rangers in 1986 and promotion to the Premier League with Derby in 1996.

    A heritage trail has been set up to take people on a tour of Sheffield's most heavily bombed areas during the blitz in 1940.

    The Sheffield Blitz Heritage Trail was created with Heritage Lottery funding to link 12 different sites in the city.

    Hundreds died during German Luftwaffe raids on Sheffield between 12 and 15 December, 1940.

    The site of Atkinson's department store on The Moor, razed to the ground at the time (pictured), is the gateway to trail.

    Other sites include Sheffield City Hall, Devonshire Green, the Central Library and Bramall Lane football ground.

    Historian Neil Anderson has also written a book, Countdown to the Sheffield Blitz, about the impact on the city.
