Gold ring on display after 500 years underground in Yorkpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2020
A medieval gold ring discovered by a metal detectorist in York, after being underground for 500 years, has gone on display in the city.
The 15th Century ring, a gold band with ruby and emerald gemstones, thought to be a love token, was discovered by metal detectorist Paul Ibbotson in a field in Fulford in December 2016.
It was later legally declared as treasure and sold to the York Museums Trust for about £20,000.
It's now gone on display at the Yorkshire Museum in York.
