    The Environment Agency (EA) has 27 flood warnings in place across Yorkshire, external this morning.

    There are currently 22 warnings in North Yorkshire, one in West Yorkshire and four in East Yorkshire.

    The EA says the River Ouse in York peaked at 4.44m at 19:00 last night, lower than the expected 4.6m, which is below the permanent defences and the temporary ones erected in some undefended areas.

    The Ouse in York is currently 4.32m above its normal level and falling, but the EA says it will remain high for several days.

    Three homes and seven businesses were flooded in the village of Snaith in East Yorkshire yesterday and some properties in the village have been evacuated.

    There are currently four flood warnings in the area. The council says further overtopping is expected from around 09:00.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after lead was stolen from the roof of a business in a North Yorkshire market town.

    The theft, from premises at Zetland Square on Dundas Street in Richmond, happened between 02:00 and 02:30 last Friday morning.

    It involved suspects climbing onto the roof and removing the lead, police believe.

    Officers are now asking for local residents' help to establish the full circumstances surrounding the theft.

    "In particular, we are appealing for information about sightings of any suspects or vehicle in the area at this time," police say.

    A man shot by police has pleaded guilty to brandishing an imitation handgun in the street.

    Andrejs Saveljevs, 35, admitted having the imitation firearm on Hessle Road in Hull on 15 December.

    Saveljevs was shot by armed officers after aiming the replica gun at them when confronted in the early hours.

    He was remanded in custody at Hull Crown Court earlier, and will be sentenced on 30 March.

    People living in parts of East Yorkshire are bracing themselves for possible further flooding this morning after the River Aire spilled its banks on Tuesday.

    Three homes and seven businesses were flooded in Snaith yesterday, according to East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    Some properties in the village have been evacuated, with residents taken to a rest centre at the Priory Church.

    The properties which have flooded are on washland, according to the Environment Agency (EA).

    Snaith Primary School has been closed for the day and the A1401 is closed between Snaith and Carlton.

    In a statement issued yesterday afternoon the council said further overtopping is expected from around 09:00.

    The River Aire at Snaith Ings is currently 3.8m higher than normal and there are four flood warnings in the area.

    A 43 year-old man wanted in Poland has appeared in court accused of guns and drugs offences.

    Nottinghamshire Police arrested Tomasz Gawryluk on a European Arrest Warrant, in connection with allegations of supplying a firearm and ammunition, as well as wholesale drugs supply more than 10 years ago.

    Recent information linked him to an address in Nottinghamshire but on Saturday his vehicle was traced to the A61 in Sheffield where he was detained by officers, police said.

    Sgt Tim Cuthbert said: "A great deal of work has gone in to locating him after several near misses in other force areas."

    He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday where he was remanded into custody until 3 March.

    A "small" number of properties in Snaith, East Yorkshire, have flooded after the River Aire burst its banks earlier today, the Environment Agency (EA) has confirmed.

    Firefighters from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are helping to sandbag people's homes while some properties in Snaith have been evacuated, according to police

    The situation in the village is "being monitored" and contingency plans are in place if nearby washlands are overwhelmed by flood water, the EA says.

    Community information officers and an incident command unit is in the village supporting local residents and EA officers are working with councils and the emergency services, according to the agency.

    In a statement, the EA says: "We expect levels to remain high for the next few days. Washland levels will not fall until river levels drop.

    "Residents are being urged to sign up for our free flood warning service, check the flood warnings and keep an eye on the weather," it adds.

    Council staff in Leeds will soon need to drive environmentally-friendly vehicles if they want to claim for work-related petrol costs.

    According to early plans, by 2025 anyone claiming work-related mileage will not be reimbursed unless they have a hybrid vehicle.

    And by 2030 no reimbursements will be allowed unless the driver has an electric vehicle.

    Council officers say the scheme will help staff for whom travel is not essential to use alternative technology where available, such as Skype for meetings.

    A council officer told a meeting of the authority’s strategy scrutiny board: “We need to think about the culture and behaviour of organisations."
