    People are being asked to report any gatherings which breach strict government rules imposed to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

    Humberside Police has set up an online reporting system for people to submit details of any groups seen flouting the guidelines.

    Since Monday gatherings of more than two people, other than members of the same household, have been outlawed, with police given extra powers to tackle breaches.

    People ignoring tougher restrictions on movement now face a £60 fine, with a £120 for a second offence.

    Humberside Police say the new online portal will allow people to "help our local communities and save lives".

    Chris Philpott at Humberside Police, said: “We're aware there will be individuals who choose not to adhere to government guidance and, understandably, people want to report this type of behaviour to us, as it's risking lives.

    “The online portal has been developed precisely for reports like these, where groups have been seen gathered, and has a dedicated team who will receive the report as soon as it is made."

    Dog shelters are facing closure because of the lockdown to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.

    Animal charities have had to shut fundraising shops and close centres to the public as well as put adoptions on hold.

    The RSPCA's York branch has an emergency appeal to raise its £60,000 monthly cost to keep from closing down.

    It said it lost 90% of its income in the past week as the government asked people to stay at home.

    Peter Gorbert, the RSPCA branch manager for York, said: "It's difficult knowing that we have animals that could be going home but can't because of the lockdown."

    The charity's Halifax branch is running a "virtual pet show" on Facebook after the coronavirus crisis put its annual events in doubt.

    Jerry Green Dog Rescue, which operates across Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, is also appealing for funds and is asking people to donate unwanted items through the Vintage Giving website.

    Police are appealing for information after an officer and another driver were seriously injured in a crash in Rotherham earlier this week.

    A grey BMW One series and a silver Vauxhall Astra were travelling along Warren Vale, heading towards Woodman roundabout, at about 21:15 on Wednesday when the crash happened.

    South Yorkshire Police said the driver of the BMW "lost control" of his car before veering onto the opposite side of the road and hitting an unmarked police car.

    The 18-year-old driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    A police officer was also seriously injured and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

    The driver of the Vauxhall Astra, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving.

    Anybody who saw the crash, especially people with dash camera video, is being asked to get in touch with police.

    Lifeguards will not be be manning beaches and people should stay away to help save lives amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Coastguard has warned.

    Much of the UK has enjoyed several days of bright sunshine and fine weather at the weekend would usually see crowds flock to seaside resorts.

    However, the Coastguard said everyone must follow the government's "very simple" rules and stay at home.

    It said it had still been getting calls reporting groups of people on beaches.

    Thousands of beachgoers defied the government's social distancing advice last week in scenes that prompted frustration from officials.

    Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced stringent new rules on Monday evening meaning people should only leave their homes for limited purposes.

    They included being allowed to take daily exercise but the Coastguard said beaches should only be used by those who lived close to them.

    An RSPCA officer was spat at in the face and abused as she tried to rescue a swan near Hull.

    The officer was helping the animal after it became tangled in fishing line Hedon on Saturday.

    She was approached by five teenagers who shouted "have corona" and swore at her before spitting in her face, the RSPCA has said.

    Animal Welfare Officer Leanne Honess-Heather said: "The group were in the park nearby and walked over to see what I was doing.

    "I was on my own and wrestling with the swan on the ground when I asked them to stand back for their and the swan’s sake.

    "They seemed to take offence to this, which led to two of the group spitting directly into my face, going in my mouth and eyes, as they yelled at me."

    The animal was released with no long-term injuries, she added.

    Firefighters in West Yorkshire had to put out a fire in Keighley caused by an abandoned barbecue.

    West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to the blaze in the open, with a disposable barbecue still smoking nearby.

    Despite people being told to stay at home and only travel unless absolutely necessary due to coronavirus, the fire service said the blaze could have created "another large incident".

    A fire last year on Marsden Moor was started by a barbecue, prompting a summer of campaigns telling the public about the dangers of having fires and barbecues in moorland.

    It is against the law to have fires or barbecues in some parts of West Yorkshire, the fire service added.

    Two men have been taken to hospital following a stabbing in Bradford last night.

    West Yorkshire Police said one man suffered injuries "consistent with stab wounds" following the incident in Beldon Road, which happened at about 22:00. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

    A second man was taken to hospital for treatment to a hand injury.

    The force said three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being held in police custody.

    Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.

    People who spot ice cream vans operating in Leeds during the coronavirus lockdown are being asked to let the council know.

    Following the government's guidelines to only travel if necessary, vendors are being told to not operate - with their licences being stopped by the council.

    However, Leeds City Council says it's received reports of ice cream vans still operating.

    Members of the public who see vans still serving illegally are being asked to get in touch with the licensing team at the council and fines could be issued, the authority has warned.

    A critical care nurse from North Yorkshire who urged panic-buyers to think about other people after finding supermarket shelves empty has revealed she might have contracted COVID-19.

    In a tearful appeal (shown above), Dawn Bilbrough, from York, who had been working in West Yorkshire, urged people to stop and leave goods for everyone.

    Speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain today, she said doing things around the house is making her breathless and she has persistent nausea and headaches.

    Asked if she was showing signs of coronavirus, she replied: "I believe I am."

    She added she had "ongoing nausea and persistent headaches", adding: "I do believe I have Covid but I haven't been tested."

    On Monday, Ms Bilbrough posted a video to say she had woken up with coronavirus symptoms so was staying off work and self-isolating.

    North Yorkshire's Chief Fire Officer of North Yorkshire's has spoken out about what he describes as "selfish stockpiling", leaving frontline key workers short of protective equipment.

    Andrew Brodie says firefighters are travelling together "in the close confines of the cab of a fire engine" and when they get to rescues are coming into contact with people who they try to keep a safe distance from.

    But Mr Brodie says: "They're not always able to do that, so we're trying to get them equipment to do their job safely.

    "However, people appear to be stockpiling and acting selfishly, so we're taking a more selfless approach, not greedily stockpiling, not denying NHS access to essential supplies.

    "But there some things like the special suits and face masks which are in very short supply."

    Mr Brodie told the BBC that firefighters have received additional hygiene packs this week of gel, masks and gloves, in order to protect themselves and the public from the virus, but he says they will need more.

    Craig Hammond, 49, from Swallownest was last seen on Saturday at about 07:40 on CCTV near the Elmwood Farm pub on the A57

    People living in Beighton and Woodhouse have been urged to check any CCTV they may have from 07:00 until 19:00 of that day.

    Mr Hammond is described as being of medium build and is believed to have bandages on his left arm, although these may have been removed, police say.

    He was last seen wearing a red jumper, black jeans and maroon-coloured trainers.

    Officers are appealing for dashcam footage from vehicles crossing the A57 viaduct between Swallownest and Beighton/Woodhouse between 07:30 and 09:00 on Saturday 21 March.
