    A West Yorkshire airport has announced it's closing to the public after a decrease in the number of flights landing and taking off.

    Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) says because of the coronavirus, air travel has significantly dropped off, leading to the decision to close the site to the public.

    The airfield will be closed between Thursday and Monday, but planes will still be able to take off and land on Tuesday and Wednesday if necessary.

    Most shops and airport lounges have also been closed to the public.

    A spokesperson for Leeds Bradford Airport said: "Outbound and inbound traffic at LBA has inevitably been reduced due to coronavirus. LBA continues to observe government guidelines and regulatory requirements.

    "The health and well-being of passengers and staff remains our number one priority."

    A drive-through blood testing service is to be set up at Sheffield's Fly DSA Arena for people in need of routine checks.

    Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is setting up the new centre in order to minimise the risk of infection at its hospitals.

    The Trust has joined forces with Sheffield City Trust, which runs the venue, to set up a drive through-service so that vulnerable patients can have vital tests without going into hospital.

    Patients will be contacted by the hospital or their GP and given the choice of driving to the Arena car park where a large marquee has been set up.

    When it is their turn, the patient will drive into the marquee and be met by a specialist team to have their details checked and test requirements identified.

    A man's been arrested after allegedly coughing in the face of two police officers at a Hull police station this morning, Humberside Police say.

    The 45-year-old man had been taken to Clough Road Police Station just before 07:00, after being arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

    He was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, after two officers were allegedly "deliberately coughed at" by the man before he claimed to have coronavirus.

    The Humberside force says the man is now being held in custody.

    An appeal for information has been launched after two pythons were found dead in a box which had been dumped in a fly-tipping hotspot near Bridlington.

    The snakes were found by members of the public on Main Street, in Boynton, on Sunday.

    The RSPCA says it's not clear if the snakes were already dead or left to die in the box.

    The animals were found in boxes commonly used by owners with a large number of reptiles as they're stackable, the charity said.

    It's concerned there might be more animals that are living in poor conditions following this latest discovery.

    Anybody with information is asked to get in touch with the RSPCA.

    A temporary mortuary is to be set up in Leeds to help the city cope with any increase in deaths amid the coronavirus pandemic.

    The facility is due to be housed at Waterside Industrial Park, Stourton, at a cost of £800,000.

    A company has been appointed to provide and install essential equipment.

    The decision was not subject to the usual planning processes in order to avoid any delay in the mortuary being ready, the council said.

    A motorcyclist involved in a crash on the Leeds outer ring road has died.

    The 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of a collision between his orange KTM 690 and a grey Skodia Fabia car, just after 07:00 yesterday.

    The crash happened in Moortown, close to the junction with Shadwell Lane.

    West Yorkshire Police say the driver of the Skoda remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their investigation.

    Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the movements of either vehicle in the time leading up to it, is asked to contact police.

    Stargazers have enjoyed the emergence of what is known as a pink moon in the night skies above Yorkshire.

    Despite its name, there is not any noticeable colour difference to the full moon, which reached its peak in the UK at 03:55 this morning.

    He's described as white, about 5ft 3ins tall, slim and bald, with a scab on the top of his head.

    New coronavirus legislation was used to close down The Staffordshire Arms, in Burgreave, after it was investigated over reports the owner was still serving people on his premises.

    John O’Malley, Liquor Licensing Manager for South Yorkshire Police said: “The majority of licensed premises in Sheffield, and South Yorkshire more widely, have been fantastic during what is a really difficult and uncertain time.

    "I hope that this closure order, on a premises that has shamelessly gone against the legislation, sends a message that we are taking this seriously and we are taking action."

    Sheffield City Council and police said also took action to shut the ‘Prince of Vape’ shop on Prince of Wales Road in Sheffield.

    Councillor Mark Jones, Cabinet Member for Environment, Streetscene and Climate Change, said: “We simply cannot allow business owners to ignore the guidance, it’s our duty to make sure they listen. We now have the power to enforce this and we are."

    Two men have been arrested and a samurai sword seized following an incident in Harrogate last night.

    The men, aged 23 and 34, were taken into custody on suspicion of affray and criminal damage after a car was damaged on Stonefall Avenue at about 22:10 on Monday, according to North Yorkshire Police.

    Both men are being held while inquiries continue, the force says.

    Up to 5,000 masks to help protect frontline NHS staff from coronavirus are being made at the University of Hull.

    The plastic face shields were previously being made using 3D printers, but by switching to laser cutting the university says it can create between 2,000-5,000 a day.

    The personal protective equipment (PPE) will then be given to doctors and nurses helping people affected by coronavirus.

    The creation of the PPE has come about following a request from NHS consultants.

    The new designs are to be shared with other groups keen on protecting staff battling the virus with the hope production across the country will be sped up.

    Senior lecturer Nathan Brown, from Hull University's department of engineering, said: "As a team, we have invested a huge amount of time and effort in developing the designs.

    "We have been in regular contact with those on the frontline of the NHS – to develop designs that will protect staff but can be produced quickly and with maximum efficiency."

    Police are appealing for information after 17 cars were damaged in Rotherham on Monday.

    The cars were parked on Hungerhill Road and Reresby Road in Whiston.

    The damage occurred at about 22:10 and is thought to have been the result of a crash, South Yorkshire Police say.

    Anybody who has CCTV or dash-cam video from around the time of the incident is being asked to get in touch with police.

    Rotherham United players have been checking in with older and vulnerable fans as part of their commitment to helping the community.

    Top goal scorer Freddie Ladapo (pictured) is one of many players and staff who have been delivering food and prescriptions to supporters who mighty need a bit of extra help.

    Club manager Paul Warne has also been taking part, dropping off supplies to a couple in Greasbrough.

    Jamie Noble, from the club's Community Sports Trust, said: "While the club is working on a reduced staff base, we are still making it our priority to ensure we can help our supporters everywhere we can.

    "We want to make sure nobody out there is struggling. We’re only at the other end of the phone and are more than willing to help with drop-offs of food and medicines, or anything else we can feasibly assist with.

    "We talk about it a lot, but I think this is further evidence of the 'good human beings' that Paul Warne and his staff have recruited, and the Gaffer really leads by example."
