    A CCTV image of two men police want to speak to after a patrol car was vandalised outside a South Yorkshire Police station, has been released.

    The rear window of the vehicle was smashed while it was parked outside Goldthorpe Police Station at about 21:45 on 2 April.

    Two individuals on a motorbike stopped at the station before throwing an object at the car, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    Writing on social media, external the force said: "It's saddening such an incident has occurred when we are all pulling together in these unprecedented times to assist the communty we are all part of."

    Anyone who recognises either of the men in the image is being urged to contact police.

    Tributes have been paid to a former special school headteacher who died after testing positive for coronavirus.

    Julie Mott, who was principal of Newman School, in Whiston, Rotherham, died on Saturday, the school said.

    In a statement posted online, external by current headteacher Paul Silvester she was described by ex-colleagues as passionate, kind and determined.

    It said: "The awful impact of this virus is being felt across the world and the heart-wrenching circumstances of each individual loss has been truly brought to the fore with the news about Julie's passing.

    "Many staff, as this sad news has broken, shared stories of her kindness, determination, support, sense of humour and laughter that has been so warmly remembered.

    "Our final thoughts though are with her strength and determination, it is these skills that drove Julie and her memory and her success will live long at Newman.

    "With happy memories and thanks in our hearts we say farewell as we remember the achievements, personal stories and the laughter of Julie's time at Newman."

    MPs across Yorkshire have sent messages of support to Boris Johnson after he was admitted to intensive care yesterday when his coronavirus symptoms worsened.

    The prime minister was admitted to St Thomas' Hospital in London on Sunday after being diagnosed with the virus 10 days ago.

    Stuart Andrew, Conservative MP for Pudsey, said: "It's extremely worrying and all our thoughts are with him, his partner Carrie and his whole family - he's in the best place and will be getting superb care."

    Hilary Benn, Labour MP for Leeds Central, added: "It's very worrying news and we all hope that he is going to recover."

    Other MPs from the region have also taken to social media to show their support, with Chancellor Rishi Sunak, who is MP for Richmond saying his thought are with Mr Johnson and his partner Carrie Symonds.

    Adding: "I know he’ll be getting the best care possible and will come out of this even stronger."

    A Sheffield student nurse who was due take part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon has completed her own version of the race after it was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

    Francesca Foster, 21, a student at Sheffield Hallam University, trained for six months for the 13.1-mile event - which takes in Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral and Nelson’s Column - so she could raise money for cystic fibrosis, a condition her boyfriend has.

    But rather than waste all her effort after the race was cancelled last month, she decided to run a half marathon along the streets of Boston Spa and Bramham in West Yorkshire, raising £1,280 in the process.

    She sent her sponsors proof she'd completed the distance by sending them a map of the route she'd taken and the time it took her - two hours and seven minutes.

    Speaking about some of the differences between the intended London course and the Yorkshire course she actually ran, Francesca said: "Boston's a lot more hilly!"

    Francesca's friend, Amy Kilby, 22, who was also planning to compete in the London Landmarks Half Marathon, also completed her own West Yorkshire version, raising £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

  10. Investigation launched after video shows armed brawlpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 6 April 2020

    A video which shows a group of men fighting with weapons in a Sheffield street has sparked a police investigation.

    The video, which has been shared thousands of times online, shows a man smashing the front window of a house with a baseball bat, before another man leaves the house and smashes a car window.

    The driver of the vehicle then drives towards the house and the door of the house is then attacked as one of the men shelters inside.

    South Yorkshire Police say the reported assault happened in Page Hall at about 18:30 on Tuesday 31 March.

    An investigation has been launched as officers try to work out who is fighting.

    The video was shared with a caption saying the fighting happened at the weekend, but police say misinformation like this is making their jobs harder.

    Sheffield Neighbourhood Sgt Phil Mackey said: "With the ongoing situation around Covid-19, we are continuing to receive well-intended reports of gatherings of people.

    “In some cases, we are then sending officers to the scene, and upon arrival they are not locating anyone. After initial inquiries, we are realising these reports are from old videos and photographs being shared on social media.

    “This is making our job more difficult in what is already a challenging time."

    Three Leeds United fans have raised more than £12,000 for city food banks by playing a football management simulator game for 24 hours.

    Dan Moylan, Daniel Chapman and Michael Normanton, who run the Leeds United fanzine and podcast The Square Ball, streamed their efforts live online as they played Football Manager 2008 from 10:00 on Saturday until 10:00 on Sunday.

    Guests including comedian Jon Richardson joined them throughout, with supporters donating money which will be split between two Leeds food banks.

    The trio replayed the 2007-8 season as Leeds on Football Manager, a year when the club overcame a 15-point deduction to reach the League One play-offs but ended up losing the final to Doncaster Rovers at Wembley.

    Mr Moylan, 41, said: "The 2007 season was a pretty memorable one for Leeds, for many of the wrong reasons, but we thought it would be nice to try and go on a journey with that one and try and correct that particular wrong and get promoted."

    Throughout the streaming, the three received messages from watching Leeds fans who suggested tactical changes and potential signings.

    Some even sponsored individual players, while one Leeds fan - who appears in the game as a young trainee goalkeeper - agreed to donate money if they signed him.

    By Sunday morning, fans had contributed about £12,500 to a fund set up by the Leeds United Supporters Trust.

    A man has appeared in court charged with a number of offences after guns were stolen during a raid at a shop in Sheffield last week.

    Several guns were stolen from Hardy's Gunsmiths on Alderson Road during the break-in in the early hours of Friday morning.

    Andrew Coy, 33, of Eldon Court, Sheffield, has been charged with aggravated burglary, burglary, possession of a shotgun and possession of a firearm in connection with the incident.

    He appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court earlier and has been remanded in custody.

    He is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court next month.

    Two other people arrested in connection with the incident, a 38-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, have been released under investigation while inquiries continue, South Yorkshire Police said.

    A Bradford GP who has taken down a website offering coronavirus testing kits insists he had never intended to make a profit.

    Dr Youssef Beaini said he'd wanted to help fellow healthcare workers concerned about their health.

    He was speaking after an article by the Guardian highlighted he was selling the tests, external.

    Dr Beaini said he had acted with friends due to the concerns of himself and many colleagues.

    "The whole point was to make a positive impact, profit was never an aim of this project whatsoever," he said.

    Dr Beaini said he and his friends purchased about 100 kits and sold about 40, the rest being donated to health professionals and key workers.

    An administrative error meant two kits were sold to members of the public and they have since been refunded, he added.

    In a statement, a GMC spokesperson said: "We expect doctors to be clear about the safety and accuracy of Covid-19 tests, and not to offer or recommend tests that are unproven, clinically unverified and or otherwise unreliable."

    The RSPCA is asking for help to find a group of teenagers who were seen beating a five-month-old puppy in North Yorkshire yesterday.

    The Patterdale terrier was seen being mistreated on Sowerby Crescent in Stokesley at about 13:00 yesterday.

    A witness bought the dog from the teenagers in order to get him away from harm.

    The puppy, who has since had to be put down because of his injuries, had bruising to his abdomen.

    He is also believed to have been injured by another dog about a week previously, with his groin being badly swollen and infected.

    Anybody with information as to how the dog became injured is asked to get in touch with the RSPCA.

    A man has been arrested following threats to a police community support officer (PCSO) conducting social distancing enforcement patrols in South Yorkshire as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

    South Yorkshire Police said the arrest was made at the weekend as officers responded to reports of the regulations being flouted in the Fir Vale area of Sheffield.

    Officers said they enlisted a university student to help them explain the regulations and the seriousness of the situation to members of the Roma community in the area.

    Pictures were posted on social media apparently showing people congregating in groups on the terraced streets of that part of the city.

    Sheffield North-East Neighbourhood Policing Team said on Facebook yesterday: "Tonight a member of the Roma community who is studying at university has been on patrol with officers to try and assist with educating and explaining the seriousness of the situation the country is facing.

    "Yesterday a male was arrested and charged with public order offences having threatened the PCSO conducting enforcement patrols.

    "The team have seen a steady improvement on compliance in the area, however there is still progress to be made," he added.
